Bacillus subtilis devitalization mechanism of atmosphere pressure plasma jet

        Sanxi Deng,Cheng Cheng,Guohua Ni,Yuedong Meng,Hua Chen 한국물리학회 2010 Current Applied Physics Vol.10 No.4

Bio-applications of atmospheric pressure plasma have been widely studied in recent years. However, the devitalization mechanisms of micro-organisms by atmosphere pressure plasma have not been clearly explained. This paper was to find the possible sterilization mechanisms and define the major sterilization factors with the atmospheric pressure plasma jet. For the sterilization target, the Bacillus subtilis was selected. In this paper, a set of physical or chemical methods were used to characterize the following sterilization factors: heat, ultraviolet radiation, charged species and chemical reactive species generated by the plasma. It was found that the bacterial inactivation efficacy had a significant improvement when oxygen was introduced into the plasma jet system. Comparing with the result of sterilization, the inactivation process was dominantly controlled by synergistic actions of chemically active species and charged species, rather than heat, or ultraviolet radiation.

Preliminary Application of High-Definition CT Gemstone Spectral Imaging in Hand and Foot Tendons

        Kai Deng,Cheng-Qi Zhang,Wei Li,Jun-Jun Wang,Xin-Yi Wang,Tao Pang,Guang-Li Wang,Cheng Liu 대한영상의학회 2012 Korean Journal of Radiology Vol.13 No.6

Objective: To assess the feasibility of visualizing hand and foot tendon anatomy and disorders by Gemstone Spectral Imaging (GSI) high-definition CT (HDCT). Materials and Methods: Thirty-five patients who suffered from hand or foot pain were scanned with GSI mode HDCT and MRI. Spectrum analysis was used to select the monochromatic images that provide the optimal contrast-to-noise ratio (CNR) for tendons. The image quality at the best selected monochromatic level and the conventional polychromatic images were compared. Tendon anatomy and disease were also analyzed at GSI and MRI. Results: The monochromatic images at about 65 keV (mean 65.09 ± 2.98) provided the optimal CNR for hand and foot tendons. The image quality at the optimal selected monochromatic level was superior to conventional polychromatic images (p = 0.005, p < 0.05). GSI was useful in visualizing hand and foot tendon anatomy and disorders. There were no statistical differences between GSI and MRI with regard to tendon thickening (χ2 = 0, p > 0.05), compression (χ2 = 0.5, p > 0.05), absence (χ2 = 0, p > 0.05) and rupture (χ2 = 0, p > 0.05). GSI was significantly less sensitive than MRI in displaying tendon adhesion (χ2 = 4.17, p < 0.05), degeneration (χ2 = 4.17, p < 0.05), and tendinous sheath disease (χ2 = 10.08, p < 0.05). Conclusion: GSI with monochromatic images at 65 keV displays clearly the most hand and foot tendon anatomy and disorders with image quality improved, as compared with conventional polychromatic images. It may be used solely or combined with MRI in clinical work, depending on individual patient disease condition. • Nonlinear Error Compensation of Complex Surface for Five-axis Machining

        Cheng De-rong,Deng Shi-ping,Xing Xiao-Lin 보안공학연구지원센터 2015 International Journal of Hybrid Information Techno Vol.8 No.12

In order to solve non-linear errors caused by rotational movement of the rotary axis, firstly, it analyzes how non-linear errors are generated in the five-axis machining, and establishes the non-linear error model of complex surface in 3D space. Then it proposes a method of controlling and compensating for nonlinearity errors by introducing the interpolate point based on smoothing tool axis vector. In the method of surface interpolation, it is suggested to add an interpolation point, keep the tool axis vector on sector surface boundary within the start and end tool axis vector of the program block, and maintain the tool axis vector velocity and acceleration continuity. Simulation results show the nonlinearity errors of the fan blade machining are effectively controlled.

Room temperature ferromagnetism in Ni-doped ZnO films

        Deng-Lu Hou,Rui-Bin Zhao,Yan-Yan Wei,Cong-Mian Zhen,Cheng-Fu Pan,Gui-De Tang 한국물리학회 2010 Current Applied Physics Vol.10 No.1

Zn1-xNixO (x = 0.02, 0.03, 0.04, 0.05, 0.07) films were prepared using magnetron sputtering. X-ray diffraction indicates that all samples have a wurtzite structure with c-axis orientation. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy results reveal that the Ni ion is in a +2 charge state in these films. Magnetization measurements indicate that all samples have room temperature ferromagnetism. In order to elucidate the origin of the ferromagnetism, Zn0.97Ni0.03O films were grown under different atmospheric ratios of argon to oxygen. The results show that as the fraction of oxygen in the atmosphere decreases, both the saturation magnetization and the number of oxygen vacancies increase, confirming that the ferromagnetism is correlated with the oxygen vacancy level.

Transcriptome sequencing provides insights into the metabolic pathways of patchouli alcohol and pogostone in Pogostemon cablin (Blanco) Benth

        Cheng Peng,Yang He,Cao Deng,Liang Xiong,Shishang Qin 한국유전학회 2016 Genes & Genomics Vol.38 No.11

Pogostemon cablin (Blanco) Benth. is an important medicinal plant; however, its molecular biology remains largely unexplored. Here, we report the results of whole transcriptome-wide analyses of P. cablin using nextgeneration sequencing technology. In the present study, we generated 108,996 unigenes using RNA sequencing data. Among these unigenes, 65,536 were annotated in the NR database. There were 40,670 intact open reading frames (ORFs), which accounted for 69 % of the 58,820 predicted ORFs, demonstrating that our assembled transcriptome was of high quality. Gene expression levels in the leaf and stem were quantified, and 18,481 unigenes (17 %) were determined to be significantly differentially expressed. The patchouli alcohol (PA) and pogostone (PO) metabolic pathway of P. cablin was also reconstructed, and among the 17 putative homologs to PA and PO biosynthesis-related genes, seven were significantly upregulated in the stems, and three genes were significantly upregulated in the leaves. The correlation between the essential oil contents of P. cablin and the potentially pivotal genes for PA and PO production were identified. Considering that the contents of PA and PO in leaves and stems are markedly different in the same plant and we did not detect any pattern in the expression levels of candidate genes between leaves and stems, we speculate that after the biosynthesis, more PA probably accumulates in the leaves, and more PO in the stems of P. cablin. The transcriptome of P. cabin will facilitate further researches on the molecular system biology of the Pogostemon genus, as well as the in-depth studyies of PA and PO biosynthesis and its potential applications for genetic engineering.

ASCL2 Gene Expression Analysis and Its Association with Carcass Traits in Pigs

        Cheng, H.C.,Zhang, F.W.,Deng, C.Y.,Jiang, C.D.,Xiong, Y.Z.,Li, F.E.,Lei, M.G. Asian Australasian Association of Animal Productio 2007 Animal Bioscience Vol.20 No.10

Achaete-scute like 2 (ASCL2) gene encodes a member of the basic helix-loop-helix transcription factor which is essential for the maintenance of proliferating trophoblasts during placental development. ASCL2 gene preferentially expresses the maternal allele in the mouse. However, it escapes genomic imprinting in the human. In this study, the complete open reading frame consisting of 193 amino acids of ASCL2 gene was obtained. Sequence analysis indicated that a C-G mutation existed in the 3' region between Meishan and Large White pigs. The polymorphism was used to determine the monoallelic or biallelic expression with RT-PCR-RFLP in pigs of Large $White{\times}Meishan$ $F_1$ hybrids. Imprinting analysis indicated that the ASCL2 gene expression was biallelic in all the tested tissues (heart, liver, spleen, lung, kidney, stomach, small intestine, skeletal muscle, fat, uterus, ovary and pituitary). PCR-RFLP was used to detect the polymorphism in 270 pigs of the "$Large\;White{\times}Meishan$" $F_2$ resource population. The statistical results showed highly significant associations of the genotypes and fat meat percentage (FMP), lean meat percentage (LMP) and ratio of lean to fat (RLF) (p<0.01), and significant associations of the genotypes and loin eye area (LEA) and internal fat rate (IFR) (p<0.05).

Oxygen vacancy engineering of TiO2-x nanostructures for photocatalytic CO2 reduction

        Deng Hexia,Zhu Xueteng,Chen Zhangjing,Zhao kai,Cheng Gang 한국탄소학회 2022 Carbon Letters Vol.32 No.7

The conversion of CO2 into solar fuels by photocatalysis is a promising way to deal with the energy crisis and the greenhouse effect. The introduction of oxygen vacancy into semiconductor has been proved to be an effective strategy for enhancing CO2 photoreduction performance. Herein, TiO2-x nanostructures have been prepared by a simple solvothermal method and engineered by the reaction time. With the prolonging of reaction time, the oxygen vacancy signal gradually increases while the band gap becomes narrow for the as-synthesized TiO2-x nanostructures. The results show that the TiO2-x-6 h, TiO2-x-24 h, and TiO2-x-48 h samples have the main product of CH4 (more) and CO (less) for CO2 photoreduction. Among the three oxygen vacancy photocatalysts, the TiO2-x-24 h sample shows the highest CH4 generation rate of 41.8 μmol g−1 h−1. On the basis of photo/electrochemical measurements, the TiO2-x-24 h sample exhibits efficient electron–hole separation and charge transfer capabilities, thus allows much more electrons to participate in the reaction and finally promotes the photocatalytic CO2 reduction reaction. It further confirms that the optimization of oxygen vacancy concentration could facilitate the photoinduced charge separation and accordingly improve photocatalytic CO2 conversion.
