The origin of negative capacitance in Au/n-GaAs Schottky barrier diodes(SBDs) prepared by photolithography technique in the wide frequency range

        Demet Korucu,Abdulmecit Turut,S¸ emsettin Altındal 한국물리학회 2013 Current Applied Physics Vol.13 No.6

Capacitanceevoltage (CeV) and conductanceevoltage (G/ueV) measurements of the Au/n-GaAs Schottky barrier diodes (SBDs) in the wide frequency range of 10 kHze10 MHz at room temperature were carried out in order to evaluate the reason of negative capacitance (NC). Experimental results show that C and G/u are strong functions of frequency and bias voltage especially in the accumulation region. NC behavior was observed in the CeV plot for each frequency and the magnitude of absolute value of C increases with decreasing frequency in the forward bias region. Contrary to C, G/u increases with decreasing frequency positively in this region. NC behavior may be explained by considering the loss of interface charges at occupied states below Fermi level due to impact ionization processes. Such behavior of the C and G/u values can also be attributed to the increase in the polarization especially at low frequencies and the introduction of more carriers in the structure. The values of Rs decrease exponentially with increasing frequency according to literature. In addition, the values of C and G/u at 1 MHz were corrected to obtain the real diode capacitance by taking the effect of Rs into account.

      • Population-Based Cervical Screening Outcomes in Turkey over a Period of Approximately Nine and a Half Years with Emphasis on Results for Women Aged 30-34

Sengul, Demet,Altinay, Serdar,Oksuz, Hulya,Demirturk, Hanife,Korkmazer, Engin Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2014 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.15 No.5

Purpose: To appraise the frequency of cervical cytological abnormalities in a population at normal risk via analysing the archive records of cytology for the period of approximately 9,5 years, comparing them with patient demographic charecteristics, and discuss the results for women under age of 35. Materials and Methods: A total of 32,578 cases of Pap smears were retrieved and analysed from our archive included the Pap tests performed between January 2001 and April 2010 at the Early Cancer Screening, Diagnosing and Education Center by the consent of three pathologists via utilizing the Bethesda System Criteria 2001 and the results were compared with some demographical characteristics. Results: Our rate of the cervical cytological abnormality was 1.83%, with ASCUS in 1.18%, LSIL in 0.39, HSIL in 0.16%, AGUS in 0.07%, squamous cell carcinoma in 0.02%, and adenoarcinoma in 0.006%. Cytological abnormalities were detected mostly in those with higher age, lower parity, and premenopausal period whereas the smoking status was without influence. Bacterial vaginosis (5.6%) was the most frequent infectious finding (Candida albicans 2.7%; Actinomyces sp. 1.3%; and Trichomonas vaginalis 0.2%) detected on the smears. The rate of abnormal cervical cytology was 9.5% among the women aged between 30-34. Conclusions: Early detection of the cervical abnormalities by means of the regular cervical cancer screening programmes is useful to attenuate the incidence, mortality, and morbidity of cervical cancer. Our prevalence of the cytological abnormalities was much lower than the one in Western populations in general but very similar to those reported from other Islamic countries that may be explained by the conservative lifestyle and the lower prevalence of HPV in Turkey. A remarkable rate of abnormal cervical cytology of women aged 30-34 was pointed out in the present study.

Pre-service EFL Teachers in Practice: Integrating Films into Language Teaching

Yayli Demet 영상영어교육학회 2009 영상영어교육 (STEM journal) Vol.10 No.1

In this study, the main purpose was to investigate the pre-service teachers’ initial perspectives on using feature films in language teaching and how these perspectives evolved after their microteaching experience by using feature films. The participants used some film segments accompanied by some speaking, reading and writing activities to teach some lexical or cultural elements. To collect qualitative data, the participants were asked to respond to some questionnaire items at the beginning and at the end of the semester when their microteaching sessions were over. Besides the questionnaire, five participants took part in semi-structured in depth interviews with the researcher before and after the microteaching sessions. While interpreting the data compiled, the most frequently cited meanings served to form some basic coding themes. The differences found between the initial and final utterances were noteworthy. After their microteaching experience, the participants’ utterances reflected their increasing awareness toward specific languages used in specific situations. Another difference was that the pre-service teachers in this study went beyond mainstream explanations that they held before experiencing teaching with films. Therefore, it is essential to allow pre-service teachers to take all the responsibilities for practicing real teaching with authentic materials supported in theory.

Alternative robust estimation methods for parameters of Gumbel distribution: an application to wind speed data with outliers

Aydin, Demet Techno-Press 2018 Wind and Structures, An International Journal (WAS Vol.26 No.6

An accurate determination of wind speed distribution is the basis for an evaluation of the wind energy potential required to design a wind turbine, so it is important to estimate unknown parameters of wind speed distribution. In this paper, Gumbel distribution is used in modelling wind speed data, and alternative robust estimation methods to estimate its parameters are considered. The methodologies used to obtain the estimators of the parameters are least absolute deviation, weighted least absolute deviation, median/MAD and least median of squares. The performances of the estimators are compared with traditional estimation methods (i.e., maximum likelihood and least squares) according to bias, mean square deviation and total mean square deviation criteria using a Monte-Carlo simulation study for the data with and without outliers. The simulation results show that least median of squares and median/MAD estimators are more efficient than others for data with outliers in many cases. However, median/MAD estimator is not consistent for location parameter of Gumbel distribution in all cases. In real data application, it is firstly demonstrated that Gumbel distribution fits the daily mean wind speed data well and is also better one to model the data than Weibull distribution with respect to the root mean square error and coefficient of determination criteria. Next, the wind data modified by outliers is analysed to show the performance of the proposed estimators by using numerical and graphical methods.

      • Effect of Home Care Service on the Quality of Life in Patients with Gynecological Cancer

Aktas, Demet,Terzioglu, Fusun Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2015 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.16 No.9

The purpose of the research was to determine the effect of home care service on the quality of life in patients with gynecological cancer. This randomized case control study was carried out in a womans hospital between September 2011 and February 2012. Women undergoing gynecological cancer treatment were separated into intervention and control groups, of 35 patients each. The intervention group was provided with nursing care service through hospital and home visits ($1^{st}$, $12^{th}$ weeks) within the framework of a specifically developed nursing care plan. The control group was monitored without any intervention through the hospital routine protocols ($1^{st}$, $12^{th}$ weeks). Data were collected using An Interview Form, Home Visit Monitoring Form and Quality of Life Scale/Cancer Survivors. Effects of home care service on the quality of life in gynecological cancer patients were investigated using chi-square tests, McNemar's test, independent t-test and ANOVA. This study found that the intervention group receiving home care service had a moderately high quality of life (average mean: $6.01{\pm}0.64$), while the control group had comparatively lower quality (average mean: $4.35{\pm}0.79$) within the 12 week post-discharge period (p<0.05). This study found home care services to be efficient in improving the quality of life in patients with gynecological cancer.

A Newly Synthesized Schiff Base Derived from Condensation Reaction of 2,5-dichloroaniline and benzaldehyde: Its Applicability through Molecular Interaction on Mild Steel as an Acidic Corrosion Inhibitor by Using Electrochemical Techniques

Ozkir, Demet The Korean Electrochemical Society 2019 Journal of electrochemical science and technology Vol.10 No.1

A new organic Schiff base compound N-benzylidene-2,5-dichloroaniline (BDC) was synthesized and the structure of the Schiff base is illuminated by some spectroscopic techniques. In addition, whether it is an applicable inhibitor in the industrial field was examined by conventional methods such as linear polarization resistance (LPR), electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and potentiodynamic polarization for different concentrations. The BDC concentration and temperature effects were surveyed for elucidating the inhibitive mechanism. The BDC molecules are adsorbed to surface of mild steel via the Langmuir isotherm. Atomic force (AFM) and scanning electron microscope (SEM) techniques were utilized to give insight into surface characterization.

E-Beam Processing of Collagen-Poly(N-vinyl-2-pyrrolidone) Double-Network Superabsorbent Hydrogels: Structural and Rheological Investigations

        Maria Demeter,Ion Călina,Cătălin Vancea,Murat Şen,Mădălina Georgiana Albu Kaya,Elena Mănăilă,Marius Dumitru,Viorica Meltzer 한국고분자학회 2019 Macromolecular Research Vol.27 No.3

Collagen (C)-poly(N-vinyl-2-pyrrolidone) (PVP) double-network superabsorbent hydrogels were synthesized by e-beam (electron beam) radiation processing, both with the addition of water-soluble cross-linking agents (CA), as well as without CA. The aim of the study was to develop a hydrogel for future application as wound dressings via e-beam radiation cross-linking of two biocompatible polymers. The formation of C-PVP hydrogels was confirmed by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy and their performance was determined from morphological and rheological experiments, such as sol-gel analysis, swelling capacity, storage (G') and viscous (G'') moduli, cross-linking density, and pore size. Sol-gel analysis was performed in order to determine the gel properties as function of absorbed dose and it was found that the degradation density (p0)/cross-linking density (q0) ratio indicates a negligible contribution of chain scission processes. The rheological data confirmed that the elastic properties were predominant: G' moduli were larger than G'' moduli, as is specific to elastic solids and indicate the formation of a permanent hydrogel network were cross-links are present. Moreover, the swelling studies indicated that the hydrogels have good stability both in deionized water and phosphate-buffered saline (PBS) solution at 37 oC, and superabsorbent properties. The hydrogels network parameters obtained with lower content of CA, could be controlled by changing the absorbed dose.
