        Literary translation is essentially a creative process of rewriting. The translator is the author of the translation text, even if he is not the author of the original text. A translation is never a clone of the original. In translating, we do not say the same thing differently, we say something else differently, as Henri Meschonnic put it. Concepts borrowed from the field of history of translation, like historicism, historicity, passive retranslation and active retranslation are used to go against those who still erroneously think that the meaning of a literary text lies only in its words, and claim that “we translate words because there is nothing else to translate”. Against this linguistic and literalist approach, the poetics approach takes into account the fact that, between the author and the reader, the translator is an active and creative agent in the process. Translating is always a“menage a trois”.

        This paper illustrates why the study of the history of translation is essential in a translation program. Many historical functions of translation are presented as well as several sub-fields of research. The main objectives of a course on history of translation are listed. Finally, an innovative multimedia and multilingual cd-rom on the history of translation is presented.

      • Cinquante ans d`interpretation parlementaire

        Parliamentary interpretation was introduced in the House of Commons of the Parliament of Canada on January 15, 1959, fifty years ago this year. The author describes the stages of establishing this new service and gives the names and background of the first seven interpreters. He also shows that, at the time, interpretation was perceived by the Members of Parliament and journalists as a constitutional necessity in a country officially bilingual. Thanks to the interpretation, the French unilingual MPs participated more actively in the political debates which took place mostly in English before. The interpretation has contributed to strengthen parliamentary democracy, institutional bilingualism and national unity.

        Navigating person-branding in the fashion blogosphere

        Fashion blogs have received much attention since their emergence in 2002. Yet, little is known about how fashion bloggers succeed or fail to build their brand in the fashion industry. This article examines how fashion bloggers navigate person-brand building by focusing on how fashion bloggers accumulate - or fail to accumulate – status and audience, on the basis of a new form of capital and construct: person-brand capital. Based on an 18-month netnography in the fashion blogosphere and a Bourdieuian theoretical approach, we find that to build a strong person-brand, fashion bloggers must engage in at least two sets of practices that help fuel person-brand capital. Fashion bloggers must signal that they belong to and play a valuable role in the field and in the subfield of blogging. Our findings also demonstrate that engaging in practices rooted in either a lack of cultural capital in the field of fashion or weak social capital in the subfield of blogging can hinder person-brand capital development. Overall, our research provides insight into successful person-brand building in the fashion blogosphere and offers implications for fashion brands that want to benefit from the unique showcase that they can offer.

        A new approach to design of RF energy harvesting system to enslave wireless sensor networks

        In trying to reach the goal of controlling the environment, recent years have seen the rapid emergence of Wireless Sensors Networks (WSN). Nevertheless, the lifetime of sensor nodes shows a strong dependence on battery capacity. Recently energy harvesting techniques have been considered to allow the use of WSN in the ”deploy and forget” mode. This paper proposes an assessment of the performance of a WSN enslaved to an optimized Radiofrequency Energy Harvesting System (REHS). The energy budget of a sensor node in a Low-Energy Adaptive Clustering Hierarchy (LEACH) protocol is quantified and used to evaluate the performance of the WSN.

        OpenFOAM을 활용한 포말대 이중 댐-붕괴 수치모형실험

        본 연구는 포말대 흐름의 난류특성에 대한 이해를 목표로 한다. 포말대 흐름을 재현하기 위해 이중 댐-붕괴 파랑생성법이 제시되었다. 기존 단일 댐-붕괴 실험과 비교하여 이중 댐-붕괴 실험은 두 개의 수문의 개방 시간을 조절하여 처오름과 처내림의 다양한 상호작용을 구현할 수 있다. 수치모형으로는 OpenFOAM의 overInterDyMFoam이 활용되었다. overInterDyMFoam은 밀도가 다른 두 유체(i.e., 공기, 물)의 경계면 추적기법과 동격자 및 중첩 격자 기법을 결합한 모형이다. 질량보존 및 운동량 방정식으로는 난류모형이 결합된 이차원 Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes 모형이 채택되었다. 수치모형실험 결과는 수리모형실험의 수심 및 흐름 방향 유속 시계열과 비교하여 정확도가 검증되었다. 난류 운동 에너지 분포특성을 확인하여 각 흐름 단계(i.e., 처오름, 처내림, 흐름의 상호작용)의 난류 진화 특성을 고찰하였다. This study aims to provide a better understanding of the turbulent flow characteristics in swash zone. A double dam-break method is employed to generate the swash zone flow. Comparing with the conventional single dam-break method, a delay between two gate opening can be controlled to reproduce various interactions between uprush and backwash. For numerical simulations, overInterDyMFoam based on OpenFOAM is adopted. Using overInterDyMFoam, interface between two immiscible fluids having different densities (i.e., air and water phases) can be tracked in a moving mesh with multiple layers. Two-dimensional Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes equations are solved with a standard turbulence model for momentum and continuity. Numerical model results are validated with laboratory experiment data for the time series of water depth and streamwise velocity. Turbulent kinetic energy distribution is further investigated to identify the turbulence evolution for each flow regime (i.e., uprush, backwash, and swash-swash interaction).

        Microstrip EHF Butler Matrix Design and Realization

        This paper describes the design and realization of an extra high frequency band 8 × 8 microstrip Butler matrix. Operation at 36 GHz is achieved with a frequency bandwidth exceeding 400 MHz. The circuit is implemented on a bi-layer microstrip structure using conventional manufacturing processes. This planar implementation of a Butler matrix is a key component of a switched beam smart antenna with printed antenna elements integrated on-board. Conception details, simulation results, and measurements are also given for the components (hybrid couplers, cross-couplers, and vertical inter-connections) used to implement the matrix.
