Recycling of spent domestic batteries has gained a great environmental significance. In the present research, we propose a new and simple technique for the recovery of high-purity zinc oxide nanoparticles from the electrode waste of spent alkaline Zn-MnO2 batteries. The electrode material was collected by the manual dismantling and mixed with 5M HCl for reaction with a phosphine oxide reagent Cyanex 923® at 250oC for 30min. The desired ZnO nanoparticles were restored from the Zn-Cyanex 923 complex through an ethanolic precipitation step. The recovered particle product with about 5nm diameter exhibited fluorescent properties (emission peak at 400nm) when excited by UV radiation (excitation energy of 300nm). Thus, the proposed technique offered a simple and efficient route for recovering high purity ZnO nanoparticles from spent alkaline batteries.

Background and Purpose Stroke in young adults has a special significance in developing countries, as it affects the most economically productive group of the society. We identified the risk factors and etiologies of young patients who suffered ischemic strokes and were admitted to a tertiary referral hospital in North India. Methods A retrospective review of case records from patients with ischemic stroke in the age range of 18-45 years was conducted from 2005 to 2010. Data regarding patients’ clinical profiles, medical histories, diagnostic test results, and modified Rankin Scale scores at hospital discharge were examined. Stroke subtyping was conducted in accordance with the Trial of Org 10172 in Acute Stroke Treatment (TOAST) criteria. Results Of the 2,634 patients admitted for ischemic stroke, 440 (16.7%) were in the 18-45 year age range and the majority (83.4%) were male. The most common risk factors were hypertension (34.4%) and dyslipidemia (26.5%). The most common subtype of stroke was undetermined (57%), followed by other determined causes (17.3%). Among the category of undetermined etiology, incomplete evaluation was the most common. Most of the patients demonstrated good functional outcomes. Conclusions Young adults account for 16.7% of all stroke patients in North India. Risk factors are relatively prevalent, and a high proportion of the patients are categorized under undetermined and other determined causes. The results highlight the needs for aggressive management of traditional risk factors and extensive patient work-ups to identify stroke etiology in India.

Congenital duodenal obstruction is a rare cause of neonatal intestinal obstruction caused by various intrinsic and extrinsic congenital lesions. Annular pancreas is one of the causes of extrinsic duodenal obstruction and a duodenal web is one of the causes of intrinsic duodenal obstruction. The simultaneous occurrence of an extrinsic and intrinsic pathology is rare. Only four such cases have been reported in literature. We present a similar case of male neonate with partial duodenal obstruction caused by annular pancreas and an intrinsic duodenal web.
Strength and behaviour of recycled aggregate geopolymer concrete beams
Deepa, Raj S,Jithin, Bhoopesh Techno-Press 2017 Advances in concrete construction Vol.5 No.2
In the present day scenario, concrete construction is rapidly becoming uneconomical and non sustainable practice, due to the scarcity of raw materials and environmental pollution caused by the manufacturing of cement. In this study an attempt has been made to propose recycled aggregates from demolition wastes as coarse aggregate in geopolymer concrete (GPC). Experimental investigations have been conducted to find optimum percentage of recycled aggregates (RA) in GPC by replacing 20%, 30%, 40%, 50% and 60% of coarse aggregates by RA to produce recycled aggregate geopolymer concrete (RGPC). From the study it has been found that the optimum replacement percentage of recycled aggregates was 40% based on mechanical properties and workability. In order to study and compare the flexural behaviour of RGPC and GPC four beams of size $175mm{\times}150mm{\times}1200mm$ were prepared and tested under two point loading. Test results were evaluated with respect to first crack load, ultimate load, load-deflection characteristics, ductility and energy absorption characteristics. Form the experimental study it can be concluded that the addition of recycled aggregate in GPC causes slight reduction in its strength and ductility. Since the percentage reduction in strength and behaviour of RGPC is meager compared to GPC it can be recommended as a sustainable and environment friendly construction material.

Tank level control systems can be found everywhere. It is essential for control systems engineers to understand how tank control system work and how the level control problems are solved. In industrial control systems the liquid level is carrying its significance as the control action for level control in tanks containing different chemicals or mixtures is essential for further control linking set points. All the real systems exhibits non-linear nature, conventional controllers are not always able to provide good and accurate results. Fuzzy Logic Control is used to obtain better response. Fuzzy Logic is a paradigm for an alternative design methodology, which can be applied in developing both linear and non-linear systems for embedded control. By using fuzzy logic, designers can realize lower development costs, superior features, and better end product performance. One of the successful applications that used fuzzy control is tank liquid level control. In this paper, we take the liquid level water tank, and use MATLAB to design a Fuzzy Control. Then we analyze the control effect and compare it with the effect of PID controller. As a result of comparison, Fuzzy Control is superior to PID control. Especially it can give more attention to various parameters, such as the time of response, the error in steady state and overshoot. Comparison of the resultant control response from these two systems indicated that the fuzzy logic controller significantly reduced overshoot and steady state error.
Radiotherapy in aggressive cutaneous pseudolymphoma:a case report and review of literature
Deepa Joseph,Monica Malik Irukulla,Syed Fayaz Ahmed,Deepthi Valiyaveettil,Syed Akram 대한방사선종양학회 2016 Radiation Oncology Journal Vol.34 No.1
Pseudolymphoma is a nonspecific disease characterized by lesions with lymphomatous-appearing but benign accumulation of inflammatory cells. They generally present as small ulcero-nodular lesions confined to skin which often respond to local therapies. We describe an unusual presentation of an extensive and locally aggressive cutaneous pseudolymphoma in a 21-year-old male patient who presented with extensive cutaneous eruptions gradually progressing over 6 years to involve the entire circumference of his left arm. Magnetic resonance imaging scans of his left arm showed a lesion deeply infiltrating into the soft tissue reaching up to the humerus with intense periosteal reaction. He was successfully treated with radiotherapy after many failed attempts with surgery and chemotherapy.
