Although realgar bioleaching solution (RBS) has been proved to be a potential candidate for cancer therapy, the mechanisms of RBS anticancer are still far from being completely understood. Dosed with RBS in C. elegans, the multivulva phenotype resulting from oncogenic ras gain-of-function was inhibited in a dose dependent manner. It could be abrogated by concurrent treatment C. elegans with RBS and the radical scavenger DMSO. However, RBS could not induce DAF-16 nuclear translocation in TJ356 or the increase of HSP 16.2 expression in CL2070, which both could be aroused visible GFP fluorescent variation to represent for oxidative stress generation. Treatment C. elegans with superoxide anion generator paraquat, similar results were also obtained. Our results indicated that RBS suppress excessive activated ras by increasing reactive oxygen species (ROS) in C. elegans. Secondly, ROS induced by RBS significantly accumulated on a higher level inC. elegans with amutational ras than that with wild ras, thus leading to oxidative stress on ras gain-of-function background rather than on normal ras context. Our results firstly demonstrated that using C. elegans as amodel organism for evaluating prooxidant drug candidates for cancer therapy.

In this paper, a novel robust nonlinear tracking control scheme is proposed for the yaw channel of an unmanned-aerial-vehicle helicopter that is non-affine in the control input. By a novel dynamic modeling technique, the non-affine nonlinear systems are approximated to facilitate the desired control design. In the controller design procedure, the terminal sliding model control method is intro-duced to deal with the unknown uncertainties/disturbances. Moreover, filter and disturbance estimator are combined to further reduce the chattering. A systematic procedure is developed and related theo-retical and practical issues are discussed. The proposed nonlinear tracking control scheme can guaran-tee the asymptotic output tracking of the closed-loop control systems in spite of unknown uncertain-ties/disturbances. Finally, the simulation results on the dynamic model of a real helicopter-on-arm are provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed new control techniques.

Sheath blight disease (ShB) severely afects rice production; however, the details of defense against ShB remain unclear. To understand the rice defense mechanism against ShB, an RNA sequencing analysis was performed using Rhizoctonia solani inoculated rice leaves after 48 h of inoculation. Among them, 3417 genes were upregulated and 2532 were downregulated when compared with the control group (>twofold or<1/2). In addition, the diferentially expressed genes were classifed via Gene Ontology (GO), Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG), and MapMan analyses. Fifty-nine GO terms and seven KEGG pathways were signifcantly enriched. A MapMan analysis demonstrated that the phytohormone and metabolic pathways were signifcantly altered. Interestingly, the expression levels of 359 transcription factors, including WRKY, MYB, and NAC family members, as well as 239 transporter genes, including ABC, MFS, and SWEET, were signifcantly changed in response to R. solani AG1-IA inoculation. Additionally, OsWRKY53 and OsAKT1 negatively regulate the defense response in rice against R. solani via gain of function study for OsWRKY53 and loss of function study for OsAKT1, respectively. Furthermore, several diferentially expressed genes contain R. solani-responsive cis acting regulatory elements in their promoter regions. Taken together, our analyses provide valuable information for the additional study of the defense mechanisms against ShB, and the candidate genes identifed in this study will be useful resource for future breeding to enhance resistance against ShB.

Tylenchulus semipenetrans is an important and widespreadplant-parasitic nematode of citrus worldwideand can cause citrus slow decline disease leading tosignificant reduction in tree growth and yield. Rapidand accurate detection of T. semipenetrans in soil isimportant for the disease forecasting and management. In this study, a loop-mediated isothermal amplification(LAMP) assay was developed to detect T. semipenetrans using DNA extracted from soil. A setof five primers was designed from the internal transcribedspacer region (ITS1) of rDNA, and was highlyspecific to T. semipenetrans. The LAMP reaction wasperformed at 63°C for 60 min. The LAMP productwas visualized directly in one reaction tube by addingSYBR Green I. The detection limit of the LAMP assaywas 10–2 J2/0.5 g of soil, which was 10 times moresensitive than conventional PCR (10–1 J2/0.5 g of soil). Examination of 24 field soil samples revealed that theLAMP assay was applicable to a range of soils infestednaturally with T. semipenetrans, and the total assaytime was less than 2.5 h. These results indicated thatthe developed LAMP assay is a simple, rapid, sensitive, specific and accurate technique for detection of T. semipenetrans in field soil, and contributes to the effectivemanagement of citrus slow decline disease.

A new species, Euops pseudlespedezae Li. sp. nov., is described from China, which was collected from Tianqiaoling, in the Jilin Province of China. The new species is closely related to Euops lespedezae lespedezae Sharp, which was also recorded for the first time in China. Objective: Patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) in stage Barcelona Clinic Liver Cancer (BCLC)-A were grouped based on whether they were accompanied with hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection or not so as to explore the clinical characteristics and prognostic conditions of HCC patients with non-HBV/hepatitis C virus (HCV). Materials and Methods: Clinical data of 64 stage BCLC-A HCC patients with non-HBV/HCV infection (observation group) who received radical hepatectomy in the Affiliated Cancer Hospital of Guangxi Medical University from January, 2006 to November, 2014 were retrospectively analyzed and compared with those of 409 stage BCLC-A HCC patients with HBV infection (control group) in corresponding period. Results: The postoperative 1-, 3- and 5-year recurrent rates of the observation group were 25%, 38.6% and 48.8%, with postoperative mean and median disease-free survival time being 49.1 months and 62.0 months, respectively. Additionally, the postoperative 1-, 3- and 5-year survival rates of observation group were 90.1%, 72.7% and 62.0%, with the mean and median survival times being 54.4 months and 70.0 months, respectively. Conclusions: The 1-year recurrent rate is the highest in HCC patients with non-HBV/HCV, and almost half of the patients have recurrence within 1 year, after which the recurrent rate decreases along with the time.
