Generation of Charged SiC Nanoparticles During HWCVD Process

Charged nanoparticles have been shown to be spontaneously generated in the gas phase in various chemical vapor deposition(CVD). Furthermore, it has been shown that these charged nanoparticles can contribute to the growth of thin films,nanowires, nanotetrapods and so on. Here, the generation of charged silicon carbide (SiC) nanoparticles in the gas phaseduring a hot wire CVD process was studied by capturing nanoparticles with a different delay time on a silicon monoxidemembrane of the copper mesh grid for transmission electron microscope. The average size of SiC nanoparticles capturedfor 30 s increased from 2.9 to 6.1 nm with increasing delay time from 0 to 60 min. The deposition behavior of SiC filmswas affected by the applied bias on a substrate holder. A homo-epitaxial SiC film as thick as ~ 200 nm was grown under thesubstrate bias of − 200 V, whereas polycrystalline SiC films were grown under 0 V and + 15 V. It indicates that nanoparticlesgenerated in the gas phase should be charged.

Cecidomyiidae (Diptera) consists of six subfamilies, which are divided into three groups according to larval ecological habits (phytophagous, mycophagous, and zoophagous). The five basal subfamilies of Cecidomyiidae consist entirely of mycophagous species, with approximately 1500 species described worldwide and 29 previously known to occur in Korea. In this study, 37 named species (1 Lestremiinae, 29 Micromyinae, 4 Winnertziinae, and 3 Porricondylinae species) are newly reported from South Korea. We excluded Lestremia yasukunii Shinji from the list of Korean mycophagous cecidomyiids as it is a nomen nudum. Therefore, we herein officially recognize 65 species, 30 genera, and four subfamilies for the Korean mycophagous cecidomyiid fauna. We also provide diagnoses and photographs to aid species identification and discussion on the four years of gall midge taxonomic inventory in South Korea.

Peucedanum japonicum Thunberg (PJT) has been used in traditional medicine to treat colds, coughs, fevers, and other inflammatory diseases. The goal of this study was to investigate whether 3′-isovaleryl-4′-senecioylkhellactone (IVSK) from PJT has anti-inflammatory effects on lung epithelial cells. The anti-inflammatory effects of IVSK were evaluated using phorbol 12-myristate 13-acetate (PMA)-stimulated A549 cells and regular human lung epithelial cells as a reference. IVSK reduced the secretion of the inflammatory mediators interleukin (IL)-8 and monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 (MCP-1), and the mRNA expression of IL-6, IL-8, MCP-1, and IL-1β. Additionally, it inhibited the phosphorylation of IκB kinase (IKK), p65, Iκ-Bα, and mitogen-activated protein kinases (MAPKs) p38, JNK, and ERK in A549 cells stimulated with PMA. Moreover, the binding affinity of activator protein-1 (AP-1) and nuclear factor-κB (NF-κB) was significantly reduced in the luciferase assay, while nuclear translocation was markedly inhibited by IVSK in the immunocytochemistry. These findings indicate that IVSK can protect against inflammation through the AP-1 and NF-κB pathway and could possibly be used as a lead compound for the treatment of inflammatory lung diseases.
A Mirrored Current-conveyor Transimpedance Amplifier in 65-nm CMOS

This paper presents a current-mode transimpedance amplifier (TIA) implemented in a 65- ㎚ CMOS technology, in which the mirrored current-conveyor (MCC) input configuration is proposed to lower the input impedance for wide bandwidth, thereby enabling narrow pulse recovery. Also, a feedforward control-voltage generator is suggested to realize automatic gain-control within a single pulse. Post-layout simulations of the proposed MCC-TIA demonstrate the variable transimpedance gain of 58~77 ㏈Ω, a wide dynamic-range of 41.9 ㏈ that accommodates the input currents from 18 ㎂pp to 2.24 ㎃pp, the minimum noise current spectral density of 16.8 ㎀/sqrt(Hz), the power dissipation of 40 ㎽, and the core area of 1.0 ㎟.

Recent global climate change is producing an enormous demand for alternative edible protein sources from plants, insects, and microorganisms. To find out affordable microbial proteins, we examined the nutritional composition of fungus, Rhizopus oryzae, as an alternative mycoprotein. R. oryzae is a starter of "Tempeh", food for many people around the world. Using freeze-dried culture samples, we analyzed nutrients and amino acid compositions from 4 strains of R. oryzae (KACC No. 40228, 40533, 40534, and 40536). All strains contained crude protein contents between 30-40%, carbohydrate contents of 40-50%, and fat contents of 10-20%. Among them, R. oryzae KACC 40536 showed the highest protein content (41.08%) and the lowest fat content (8.72%). Further amono acid analysis of R. oryzae KACC 40536 showed that the amounts of its essential amino acids, including valine, lysine, isoleucine, tryptophan and threonine met recommendable daily-intake standards set by FAO/WHO. Our results show that R. oryzae KACC 40536 may provide a putative alternative mycoprotein.

비만 마우스의 산화적 스트레스에 대해 바나듐 함유 제주 지하수에 대한 연구로서, 제주 지하수는 수도수 처리군보다 비만 마우스 간의 과산화 지질을 감소시켰으며, superoxide dismutase, catalase, 그리고 glutathione peroxidase의 단백질 발현 및 활성 그리고 환원형 glutathione 양을 증가 시켰다. 제주 지하수는 항산화 효소의 전사인자인 erythroid transcription factor NF-E2 (Nrf2)의 인산화형 단백질 발현을 증가시켰다. 이로서 제주 지하수는 Nrf2의 활성화를 통하여 항산화 효소시스템을 증가시켰다. The present study examined the effects of consumption of Jeju ground water containing vanadium components on oxidative stress in obese (ob/ob) mice. Intake of Jeju ground water decreased the generation of oxidative stress induced-lipid peroxidation in the liver of ob/ob mice It also enhanced the enzymatic antioxidant defense system by increasing the protein expression and activity of superoxide dismutase, catalase, and glutathione peroxidase in liver tissues. Jeju ground water intake also upregulated the intracellular content of reduced glutathione. The induction of antioxidant enzyme expression by consumption of Jeju ground water was mediated by the erythroid transcription factor NF-E2 (Nrf2). Increased nuclear expression of phospho Nrf2 was observed in ob/ob mouse liver cells following intake of Jeju ground water. These results suggest that consumption of Jeju ground water stimulated the antioxidant defense system in the livers of ob/ob mice via induction of Nrf2.
