Objective: The study was aimed to compare carcass traits, physicochemical and textural properties of meat in two different genotypes of Pekin ducks with regard to sex effect. Methods: The study involved 120 Pekin ducks: 30 males and 30 females of strain P33 (Polish native Pekin ducks) and 30 males and 30 females of Star 53 HY (commercial hybrid Pekin ducks). At 49 d of age, 48 birds (12 males and 12 females of each genotype) were selected for dissection. After the dissection, meat samples were collected to determine meat quality traits. Results: The studied Pekin ducks of different genotype showed significant differences in body weight, carcass weight, dressing percentage, as well as percentages of breast muscles, skin with subcutaneous fat, abdominal fat, neck, and remainders of eviscerated carcass with neck. Duck genotype influenced the content of crude protein, crude fat, Na, K, P, Zn, pH24, electric conductivity (EC24), cooking loss, L*, a*, most textural traits of breast muscle, and also Na, Mg and Fe content, EC24, drip loss, cooking loss and L*, a*, and b* colour coordinates of leg muscles. Regardless of genetic origin, males exhibited higher BW, carcass weight and carcass neck percentage, as well as lower redness, hardness, chewiness and gumminess of breast muscle compared to females. The genotype×sex interaction was significant for the crude fat content and cooking loss of breast muscle, and for the yellowness of leg muscle. Conclusion: Star 53 HY ducks are more suited for broiler production due to their higher body weight and dressing percentage. Their breast and leg meat are characterized by more beneficial chemical composition but has poorer sensory and textural properties compared to the meat of P33 ducks.
Surface texture of the milled surface of aluminum-ceramic composite

The work concerns the assessment of the parameters of the geometric structure of the surface of an aluminum-ceramic composite after milling in various conditions. The MMC was machined with a monolithic milling cutter with polycrystalline diamond cutting blades. The Si topography parameters of the surface machined with the cylindrical part of the tool were assessed. The influence of variable technological parameters of the process was analyzed:cutting speed, feed per tooth, depth of cut and cutting width. Measurements of the surface geometrical structure parameters showed significant differences between the real and theoretical values obtained from the kinematic-geometrical model of tool projection in the material. Significant differences translate into the possibility of predicting functional (operational) parameters of the surface. An analysis was carried out, the effect of which is the description of the values of the surface topography parameters depending on milling parameters.
Serum Kynurenic Acid: Possible Association with Invasiveness of Non-small Cell Lung Cancer

The lung adenocarcinoma is considered more aggressive than other types of non-small cell lung cancer. As metabolites of tryptophan degradation along the kynurenine pathway, including kynurenic acid, have been shown to induce immunosuppression and facilitate escape of tumor cells from immune surveillance, a hypothesis was set up that differences in biological behavior between types of lung cancer may be associated with altered activity of the kynurenine metabolic pathway. The aim of the study was to determine kynurenic acid levels in the serum of patients with bronchial adenocarcinoma for comparison with other types of non-small cell lung cancer. A total of 227 patients with non-small cell lung cancer were enrolled in the study, including 71 with adenocarcinoma and 96 with squamous cell carcinoma. Serum kynurenic acid concentration was determined with use of high performance liquid chromatography and fluorometry. The level of kynurenic acid in the serum of patients with adenocarcinoma was significantly higher than in those with squamous cell lung cancer ($107.1{\pm}62.8$ pmol/ml; 95%CI: 92.4 to 132.3 pmol/ml versus $82.1{\pm}47.6$ pmol/ml; 95%CI: 78.5 to 91.2 pmol/ml, respectively; p = 0.027). Differences between other histological types of lung cancer were insignificant. We conclude that increased activity of kynurenine metabolic pathway manifested by elevated serum kynurenic acid level may be one of the factors associated with clinically distinct biological behavior of adenocarcinoma, in particular high invasiveness and rapid progression.

꼽등이과의 Aemodogrllinae아과 5종이 한반도산으로 정리되었으며, 그 중 Paratachycines ussuriensis Storozhenko, Tachycines asynamorus Adelung은 우리나라 미기록종이었다. Diestrammena unicolor unicolor Brunner-Watt와 Tachycines coreauns Yamasaki 2종에 대한 형태학적 변이가 관찰.조사되었다. Five species of Aemodogryllinae are recognized from the Korean Peninsula; Diestrammena unicolor unicolor Brunner-Watt, Paratachycines ussuriensis Storozhenko, Tachycines boldyrevi Uvarov, T. coreanus Yamasaki and T. asynamorus Adelung. Of them, P. ussuriensis, T. boldyrevi, and T. asynamorus are reported for the first time from the Republic of Korea. Morphological variations of D. unicolor nuicolor and T. coreanus are discussed and described. Illustrations of the male genitalia of all species are given.
