        A single horn endometrial carcinoma of a uterus bicornis unicollis

        In this report, we describe a case of endometrial carcinoma arising in one horn of a bicornuate uterus. The diagnosis of this rare combination can be missed unless an unrecognized postmenopausal bleeding alerts the gynecologist to make a careful search for both endometrial cavities that may be curetted. Physicians should remember the possible existence of a separate uterine cavity when endometrial cancer is clinically suspected but histology fails to confirm the diagnosis. In this report, we describe a case of endometrial carcinoma arising in one horn of a bicornuate uterus.         Application of the Goda Pressure Formulae for Horizontal Wave Loads on Elevated Structures

        Small-scale physical experiments were conducted to investigate the application of the Goda wave pressure formulae modified to predictthe horizontal wave loads on elevated structures considering non-breaking, broken, and impulsive breaking waves. The air gap defined asthe vertical distance from the still water level to the base of the structure played a key role in the reduction of wave impact forces. Physicalmodel results using random waves confirmed that the modified application of the Goda wave pressure formulae provided a good estimateof the horizontal forces on elevated structures for both broken and impulsive breaking waves. As the air gap was increased, the resultingforces decreased, and the estimated values became increasingly conservative. When the ratio of the air gap to water depth, a/h', increasedfrom -1.0 to 1.5, the reduction in force was approximately 75% when the wave height to breaking water depth ratio, H/hb, was equal to unity.

        Does MOSES pulse modulation reduce short-term catheter reinsertion following holmium laser enucleation of the prostate?

        Purpose: Previously published studies have shown small prostate size, capsular perforation and intraoperative bladder distension are associated with failed trial without a catheter (TWOC) after HoLEP. The study objective was to determine the relationship between MOSES pulse modulation versus standard laser technology and short-term catheter reinsertion following failed TWOC. Materials and Methods: The study included 487 patients who underwent HoLEP, using standard holmium laser settings (180 patients) or MOSES pulse modulation (255 patients), between August 2018 and February 2021. Catheter reinsertion defined as reinsertion following failed TWOC within 30 days of surgery. Association of pulse modulation with catheter reinsertion was examined using single and multivariable logistic regression models. Comparisons of pre and intraoperative characteristics between patients treated without and with pulse modulation were made using a Wilcoxon rank sum test for numeric characteristics or Fisher’s exact test for categorical characteristics. Results: Short-term catheter reinsertion occurred in 14% (26/180) of the standard laser setting group as compared with 10% (24/252) of the pulse modulation group. There was no statistically significant association with short-term catheter reinsertion in single (unadjusted OR [standard settings vs. pulse modulation], 1.60; 95% CI, 0.80–2.91; p=0.12) or multivariable analysis adjusting for specimen weight and operative time (adjusted OR [standard settings vs. pulse modulation], 1.44; 95% CI, 0.77–2.68; p=0.25). Conclusions: In this study, we found no association between post-HoLEP short-term catheter reinsertion following failed TWOC and MOSES pulse modulation. Although MOSES pulse modulation offers several well-documented advantages, catheter reinsertion events appear to be attributable to other factors.

        Perfect Tracking Control for Linear Systems with State Constraint

        This paper presents a new Perfect Tracking Control (PTC) scheme for linear systems with state constraint. The proposed controller increases the number of the steps on-line for perfect tracking to satisfy the given ellipsoid-type state constraint. The unavoidable step delay that we impose is minimized by solving LMI feasibility problems and the possible feedback information loss is avoided. The proposed schemes are easy to develop, theoretically simple and clear, and include the conventional PTC as its special case.

        Adaptive Observer using Auto-generating B-splines

        This paper presents a new adaptive observer design method for a class of uncertain nonlinear systems by using spline approximation. This scheme leads to a simplified observer structure which requires only fixed number of integrations, regardless of the number of parameters to be estimated. This benefit can reduce the number of integrations of the observer filter dramatically. Moreover, the proposed adaptive observer automatically generates the required spline elements according to the varying output value and, as a result, does not requires the pre-knowledge of upper and lower bounds of the output. This is another benefit of our approach since the requirement for known output bounds have been one of the main drawbacks of practical universal approximation problems. Both of the benefits stem from the local support property, which is specific to splines.

        Knowledge Sharing Behavior in Indonesia: An Application of Planned Behaviour Theory

        The objective of this research is to empirically study public servant knowledge sharing intention by implementing the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The researcher proposes an extended TPB combined with a perceived environmental concern variable as a determinant of behavioral intention. A total of 150 questionnaires were distributed among civil society and the public sector at the district level in the Central Kalimantan Province of Indonesia. Collectively, 126 inquiries were received. A Partial Least Squares (PLS) analysis was applied to analyze and test the research model and hypothesis. The results show that all of the components of the TPB significantly influenced perceived SDG realization. The findings also partially show that knowledge sharing intention mediated the effect of attitude, perceived behavioral control, and perceived environmental concern on SDG realization. This study confirms that perspectives that affect knowledge sharing intention among public sectors could be approached based on the offered model. Hence, the local government can implement the suggestion offered in this research. The originality of this paper lies in the fact that this study discloses factors affecting knowledge sharing among public servants.

      • Unraveling stress tolerance mechanisms in plants

        Abiotic stress conditions caused by temperature extremes, water availability, and ion toxicity severely limit plant growth and productivity. The degree of damage depends on the duration and intensity of the stress, developmental stage and plant species. Plants respond to stress through changes in gene expression, which are controlled by multiple signaling pathways. Our research has focused on gene expression analysis during low temperatures in cold-hardy Poncirus trifoliata, used as rootstock for enhancing cold tolerance in Citrus unshiu (Satsuma mandarin) scion in freeze-prone crop production areas. cDNA-Amplified Fragment Length Polymorphism (cDNA-AFLP) and Quantitative Real-Time (RT) PCR were use to compare expression patterns in rootstock and C. unshiu grafted onto P. trifoliata. Genes with the following known functions were identified: signal transduction and regulation of gene expression (such as MAPK3), osmotic stress response, cell skeleton organization, vesicle trafficking and senescence. Differential expression of genes in roots of drought tolerant cucurbit species (Citrullus colocythis) is being studied in response to drought and plant hormones. A complex interplay between abscisic acid, jasmonic acid and salicylic acid signaling pathways regulates gene expression during adaptive responses to abiotic stress in Citrullus species. Functional analysis and detailed characterization of abiotic stress related genes is in progress.
