Insights into the low adhesive capacity of human T-cadherin from the NMR structure of Its N-terminal extracellular domain.

Dames, Sonja A,Bang, Eunjung,Haü,ssinger, Daniel,Ahrens, Thomas,Engel, Jü,rgen,Grzesiek, Stephan American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Bi 2008 The Journal of biological chemistry Vol.283 No.34

T-cadherin is unique among the family of type I cadherins, because it lacks transmembrane and cytosolic domains, and attaches to the membrane via a glycophosphoinositol anchor. The N-terminal cadherin repeat of T-cadherin (Tcad1) is approximately 30% identical to E-, N-, and other classical cadherins. However, it lacks many amino acids crucial for their adhesive function of classical cadherins. Among others, Trp-2, which is the key residue forming the canonical strand-exchange dimer, is replaced by an isoleucine. Here, we report the NMR structure of the first cadherin repeat of T-cadherin (Tcad1). Tcad1, as other cadherin domains, adopts a beta-barrel structure with a Greek key folding topology. However, Tcad1 is monomeric in the absence and presence of calcium. Accordingly, lle-2 binds into a hydrophobic pocket on the same protomer and participates in an N-terminal beta-sheet. Specific amino acid replacements compared to classical cadherins reduce the size of the binding pocket for residue 2 and alter the backbone conformation and flexibility around residues 5 and 15 as well as many electrostatic interactions. These modifications apparently stabilize the monomeric form and make it less susceptible to a conformational switch upon calcium binding. The absence of a tendency for homoassociation observed by NMR is consistent with electron microscopy and solid-phase binding data of the full T-cadherin ectodomain (Tcad1-5). The apparent low adhesiveness of T-cadherin suggests that it is likely to be involved in reversible and dynamic cellular adhesion-deadhesion processes, which are consistent with its role in cell growth and migration.

      • Development of Emotion Evaluation Indicators for Door Module Lightweight Development and Analysis Study on Sensibility Evaluation

( Damee Kim ),( Seunghee Hong ),( Young Seo ),( Se Jin Park ) 한국감성과학회 2017 한국감성과학회 국제학술대회(ICES) Vol.2017 No.-

The door module means that various components such as window regulator, door latch, speaker, etc. mounted on the door of the automobile are assembled in the door module panel. In the automobile industry as well as in the domestic market, automobile weight has recently been reduced, and new materials are being applied to reduce the weight of automobiles. On average, the door module weighs approximately 1400 grams. However, in the automobile industry, the entry of 1,200 grams is required to increase fuel efficiency. However, such weight reduction is expected to cause problems such as the occurrence of joints between parts due to the weight reduction and the deterioration of the speaker sound quality in the door module when viewed from the viewpoint of the sensitivity quality of the driver. As a result, we have conducted research to measure the satisfaction of emotional quality according to the weight reduction of the door module. In this study, emotion evaluation, speaker sound pressure, and operating noise were performed during door module operation in order to evaluate emotional satisfaction with light weight. We use emotional standardization index for evaluation. The target material is a door module before and after lightening, and the manufacturer is a light source machine. For emotional evaluation, EEG, heart rate, and subjective satisfaction were measured for objective evaluation. As a result of subjective satisfaction, it was broken the hypothesis that the emotional quality would be deteriorated due to the lengthening of the light weight, and the sensibility quality did not deteriorate even when the door module was operated (GLASS DOWN, UP). This research was financially supported by the Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy (MOTIE), Korea, under the “Regional industry based organization support program”(reference number R0004070) supervised by the Korea Institute for Advancement of Technology (KIAT).

      • Research on Hadoop Identity Authentication Based on Improved Kerberos Protocol

Daming Hu, Deyun Chen,Yuanxu Zhang,Shujun Pei 보안공학연구지원센터 2015 International Journal of Security and Its Applicat Vol.9 No.11

This paper researches the authentication mechanism of Kerberos protocol under HDFS, and points out the problems that identity authentication mechanism of Kerberos protocol faced in HDFS cluster environment: time synchronization, KDC security, dictionary attacks and denial mechanism. Aiming at these security problems, firstly, this paper provides an overview of the authentication process of the current Kerberos protocol under HDFS cluster environment; secondly, it modifies Kerberos protocol by using public key encryption and data signature mechanism; lastly, it provides the authentication process of improved Kerberos protocol in HDFS environment. Comprehensive analysis shows that both safety and time efficiency of the improved Kerberos protocol are improved compared with the existing identity authentication mechanism. It provides a more reliable and efficient identity authentication solution for HDFS cluster.

      • Effect of empathy trait on attention to faces

        Damee Choi,Takayuki Nishimura,Midori Motoi,Yuka Egashira,Riko Matsumoto,Shigeki Watanuki 대한인간공학회 2014 대한인간공학회 학술대회논문집 Vol.2014 No.5

To extend knowledge of relationship between empathy trait and attention to face, the present study aimed at investigating relationship between self-reported empathy trait and N170 elicited by five facial expressions (happy, angry, surprised, afraid, and sad). Twenty-two participants (12 males and 10 females) discriminated those five facial expressions from emotionally neutral faces under an oddball paradigm while event-related potentials (ERP) were recorded. The empathy trait of participants was measured using the Interpersonal Reactivity Index (IRI, Davis, 1980). The results revealed that participants with high IRI score showed more negative amplitude of N170 (140 to 200 ms after stimulus onset) than those with low IRI score at posterior temporal area in response to happy, angry, surprised, and afraid faces. The present study thus suggests that people with high empathy trait pay attention to faces more than those with low empathy, in very early stage of processing of face with happy, angry, surprised, and afraid expressions. Furthermore, this also indicates that empathy trait is related with attention processing of not only negative expressions (angry and afraid) but also positive (happy) and ambiguous expression (surprised).

A Unit Touch Gesture Model of Performance Time Prediction for Mobile Devices

        Damee Kim,Rohae Myung 대한인간공학회 2016 大韓人間工學會誌 Vol.35 No.4

Objective: The aim of this study is to propose a unit touch gesture model, which would be useful to predict the performance time on mobile devices. Background: When estimating usability based on Model-based Evaluation (MBE) in interfaces, the GOMS model measured ‘operators’ to predict the execution time in the desktop environment. Therefore, this study used the concept of operator in GOMS for touch gestures. Since the touch gestures are comprised of possible unit touch gestures, these unit touch gestures can predict to performance time with unit touch gestures on mobile devices. Method: In order to extract unit touch gestures, manual movements of subjects were recorded in the 120 fps with pixel coordinates. Touch gestures are classified with ‘out of range’, ‘registration’, ‘continuation’ and ‘termination’ of gesture. Results: As a results, six unit touch gestures were extracted, which are hold down (H), Release (R), Slip (S), Curved-stroke (Cs), Path-stroke (Ps) and Out of range (Or). The movement time predicted by the unit touch gesture model is not significantly different from the participants’ execution time. The measured six unit touch gestures can predict movement time of undefined touch gestures like user-defined gestures. Conclusion: In conclusion, touch gestures could be subdivided into six unit touch gestures. Six unit touch gestures can explain almost all the current touch gestures including user-defined gestures. So, this model provided in this study has a high predictive power. The model presented in the study could be utilized to predict the performance time of touch gestures. Application: The unit touch gestures could be simply added up to predict the performance time without measuring the performance time of a new gesture.

        What`s Not in Middlemarch

Dame Gillian Beer 근대 영미소설 학회 2003 근대 영미소설 Vol.10 No.1

George Eliot`s novel Middlemarch describes itself as a `domestic epic` and is often praised for its incluslveness. The tension in the book is created by the mismatch between the provincial town that is its subject-matter and the cosmopolitan sweep of allusion in the narration. The work is braced also by the particular ironies generated between the time of its setting (the late 1820s, early 1830`s) and the time of itS writing and first reading (the late 1860s-early 1870s). This paper seeks to re-discover those ironies, and to some degree the experience of those first readers. The novel looks at what has changed between the 1830s and 70s, and what remains insufficiently changed (like women`s opportunities). Therefore the unwritten period of the 1840s, 50s, and 60s haunts the book and forms a common bond between writer and first readers. In my argument I use the initial form in which the work appeared, in separate books with two months between their reception; I look at the advertisements by which these part-issues were surrounded for the light they throw on common anxieties and preoccupations felt by the readers. I ask also about certain notable exclusions in the work and what they may have signified to those first readers: exclusions such as spirituality, appetite, adultery, and-more arguably-the rural working classes. The form of Middlemarch, with its wealth of allusion, is permeable: what`s inside it or left out may vary with different readerships. This paper asks what the novel includes for us and what it included for its first readers. It suggests that the strong exclusions it performs may account for the highly pessimistic charge felt by its Victorian readers and for the softened pastoralism sometimes ascribed to it now.
