The controlled synthesis of one-dimensional Ag/Au nanocomposite chains with a length of several micrometers (up to 3 μm) was described in this paper. In this synthesis method, the artificial active membrane of celloidin is used and N2H4 ⋅ H2O acts as the reductive agent. The morphologies, structures and optical properties of the product were researched by TEM, SEM, EDS, XRD, and UV-Vis, etc. The synthesis mechanism of product was also postulated. Experiments proved that the synergic sterilization performances of Ag/Au nanocomposite chains were stronger than Ag/Au nanocomposite particles.

This paper presents a new method to evaluate the piping risk of unconfined sandy cobble aquifers during the dewatering of deep foundation pits. Firstly, the possibility of piping is judged according to the particle size distribution and pore diameter of the sandy cobble stratum. Secondly, the critical hydraulic gradients of particles with different sizes are calculated according to the pipe flow model. Thirdly, the hydraulic gradient around the foundation pit during the dewatering process is calculated by numerical method. Then, combined with the distribution of hydraulic gradient around the foundation pit and the critical hydraulic gradients of particles with different sizes, the range of moveable particles with different sizes in the surrounding stratum is evaluated. Finally, according to the sandy cobble aquifers conditions and the influence of particle movement on the stratum, the level of piping risk is determined. This method was successfully applied to evaluate the piping risk of Tawan Station in Luoyang Metro Line No.1, and according to the risk evaluation the pensile curtain was recommended for the retaining structure in this case. From the satisfied applications, this method is a reference for the evaluation of piping risk and selection of retaining structure when considering the impact of the dewatering in deep foundation pit with unconfined aquifers on the surrounding stratum.

The global performance of a 15 MW floating offshore wind turbine, a newly designed semisubmersible floating foundation with multiple heave plates by CNOOC, is investigated with two independent turbine-floater-mooring coupled dynamic analysis programs CHARM3D-FAST and OrcaFlex. The semisubmersible platform hosts IEA 15 MW reference wind turbine modulated for VolturnUS-S and hybrid type (chain-wire-chain with clumps) 3×2 mooring lines targeting the water depth of 100 m. The numerical free-decay simulation results are compared with physical experiments with 1:64 scaled model in 3D wave basin, from which appropriate drag coefficients for heave plates were estimated. The tuned numerical simulation tools were then used for the feasibility and global performance analysis of the FOWT considering the 50-yr-storm condition and maximum operational condition. The effect of tower flexibility was investigated by comparing tower-base fore-aft bending moment and nacelle translational accelerations. It is found that the tower-base bending moment and nacelle accelerations can be appreciably increased due to the tower flexibility.
Tariff and Non-tariff Barriers to Trade in Korea

Since the conclusion of the Uruguay Round (UR) negotiations, Korea has taken steps to reduce, if not remove, tariff and non-trariff barriers (NTBs) to trade as well as to encourage inward foreign direct investment, notwithstanding the Asian financial crisis that erupted in 1997. In the wake of the crisis, Korea has continued to pursue major reforms. Nonetheless, the customs tariff is the principal instrument of Korea's trade policy. It accords substantial and highly varied levels of protection at the border to domestic industry and is therefore a potentially important obstacle to the efficient allocation of resources and therefore sustained growth. The average applied most other industrialized countries. Moreover, tariff "spikes" are pervasive, particulatly as far as agricultural products are concerned; this is partly due to the "tariffication"of agricultural NTBs in accordance with the UR. Korea also uses several type of NTBs. Using Mobile Messaging Applications to Improve TOEFL Speaking Test Performance

As smartphones become universal in Korean life, as well as in its university classrooms, much research has been conducted into investigating their efficacy as a language-learning tool. The implications for language teachers could be profound. This current study investigated the effect of using various different mobile messaging applications equipped with audio-visual recording capabilities for improving performance in the TOEFL speaking test. The research questions are 1) Does the use of mobile messaging applications encourage practice among learners? 2) Do learners experience any improvement in their responses to sample TOEFL speaking test questions? Two groups of learners enrolled in a TOEFL speaking test preparation class. One group (n=17) was instructed to practice between classes by recording answers using an application freely available for mobile devices. The second group (n=17) was given no specific instructions. The first group also received feedback from the instructor using the same method, while the second group did not. The research findings showed that learners using mobile messaging applications tended to practice significantly more than those who didn’t use a mobile application. In addition, learners using the application outperformed the learners who didn’t use the application on sample questions answered under TOEFL test conditions.
The COVID-19 Pandemic and the Estrangement of US-China Relations

This article assesses US-China relations during the COVID-19 pandemic. Prior to the pandemic, the US-China trade war created an atmosphere of bitterness and mistrust in bilateral relations and also prompted the Chinese leadership to seek to enhance its “discourse power” through “wolf warrior” diplomacy. This atmosphere hampered US-China communication and cooperation during the initial phase of the pandemic. The unleashing of “wolf warrior” diplomacy as the pandemic spread round the world, especially in the United States, has exacerbated US-China relations and served to accelerate the transition of US policy toward China from constructive engagement to strategic competition.
Sulfate Resistance of Alkali Activated Pozzolans

The consequence of sulfate attack on geopolymer concrete, made from an alkali activated natural pozzolan (AANP) has been studied in this paper. Changes in the compressive strength, expansion and capillary water absorption of specimens have been investigated combined with phases determination by means of X-ray diffraction. At the end of present investigation which was to evaluate the performance of natural alumina silica based geopolymer concrete in sodium and magnesium sulfate solution, the loss of compressive strength and percentage of expansion of AANP concrete was recorded up to 19.4 % and 0.074, respectively.
