<P>In this paper, a novel two-dimensional adaptive dimming and current compensation technique with X-Y channels for light-emitting diode (LED) backlight system in LCD TVs is proposed . The proposed LED backlight has matrix structured LED modules with row and column switches to control the brightness of individual division block. It shows local dimming effects such as reduced power consumption and high dynamic contrast ratio even with much less number of LED drivers than that of the conventional two-dimensional local dimming method. Therefore, low cost and compact design of LED drivers can be achieved. This paper also contains a new adaptive dimming algorithm and image compensation technique for the proposed LED backlight system. Moreover, luminance difference among blocks caused by different I-V characteristics of LED and the luminance variation caused by temperature change are compensated by current sensing system. The proposed dimming technique is verified by simulation and experimental results based on a RGB-LED backlight of a 32-inch LCD TV.</P>
New X-Y Channel Driving Method for LED Backlight System in LCD TVs

This paper proposes a novel RGB-LED (light emitting diode) backlight system, for 32” LCD TVs, accompanied by a new X-Y Channel drive method in which its row and column switches control the individual division screen. This proposed driving method is able to produce division drive effects such as image improvement and reduced power consumption. Not only that, the number of converter needed in this method, that is 1 with 4<SUP>*</SUP>(m+n) switches, is much fewer than that of cluster drive method, that is 4<SUP>*</SUP>(m<SUP>*</SUP>n).

<P>A differential body-factor technique (DBT) is proposed for characterization of interface traps in MOSFETs employing the differential body factor <I>dm</I>/<I>dV</I><SUB>GS</SUB> instead of the subthreshold slope or the body factor itself. The DBT is independent of the threshold voltage variation and advantageous to apply to MOSFETs with strong nonlinearity in the subthreshold slope caused by a nonuniform distribution of traps over the band gap. We applied the DBT to n- and p-MOSFETs with <I>W</I>/<I>L</I> = 5/0.13, 5/0.18, and 2/0.13μm/μm on the same wafer and obtained identical results. Extracted interface trap density ranges <I>D</I><SUB>it</SUB> = 10<SUP>10</SUP>-10<SUP>11</SUP> cm<SUP>-2</SUP>eV<SUP>-1</SUP> with a U-shaped distribution over the band gap.</P>
Average Current Controlled X-Y Channel Driving White LED Backlight System for 46" LCD TV

A novel white-LED (light emitting diode) backlight system for 46"LCD TVs which involves the average current controlled X-Y channel driving method is proposed, which is composed of 1 converter and row and column channel switches. In the conventional X-Y channel driving driven with a constant voltage source, the driving current of LED increases because the threshold voltage of LED decreases when LED temperature goes up. To maintain the luminance of backlight constant, the average current controlled X-Y channel driving will be employed. Finally the results are confirmed by experimental results.
Quality Determination of Steel Surfaces Based on Best Feature Selection

<P>We propose a quality classification methodology based on optimal textural feature selection. This method employs the wavelet packet transform to decompose the original image into multiple-resolution images. Wavelet texture analysis is applied to extract quality-related features from subimages. Optimal textural feature selection is employed to select the discriminative texture in accordance with class information. The previously used best basis approach is incapable of optimal texture classification when combined with wavelet texture analysis. The proposed texture classification method unifies the best basis approach with wavelet texture analysis. Further, we improve the previous best basis to obtain an optimal basis using a simple rule to select discriminative signatures. The proposed methodology is applied and validated for classifying the surface quality of rolled steel sheets. Experimental results show that features extracted using the proposed method are more discriminative than those obtained using the best basis in terms of classification performance and Fisher's index.</P>
안드로이드 응용프로그램의 반응속도 향상을 위한 메모리 관리 기법

고성능, 고화질의 스마트폰 보급에 따라 어플리케이션 역시 고화질의 이미지를 포함하는 등 점점 중량화 되는 추세를 보이고 있다. 하지만 모바일 단말기의 특성 상 메모리 및 성능 제약 등 다양한 제약이 존재하는데, 따라서 어플리케이션 개발의 기반이 되는 단말기 운영체제 및 시스템에 대한 분석 및 고려가 효율적인 개발에 있어 무엇보다 중요하게 작용된다. 특히 자바를 기반으로 한 안드로이드 시스템의 경우, 비트맵 이미지 등 이미지 관련 자원들에 대한 메모리 사용에 제약이 크기 때문에 이러한 제약 사항 내에서 반응 속도 등 어플리케이션의 질을 높일 수 있는 효과적인 메모리 관리 및 활용 기법이 필요시 된다. 본 논문에서는 이를 위해 안드로이드 시스템 상의 메모리 제약과 관련 된 문제점을 분석하고, 이러한 문제점을 고려하여 어플리케이션 내에서 가장 효과적으로 이미지 관련 자원들을 처리하고 개발할 수 있는 메모리 관리 기법을 제시하였다. 이러한 기법을 통해 제한 된 메모리상에서 고화질의 이미지 자원 등을 효과적으로 다룰 수 있었고, 어플리케이션의 반응 속도 역시 효과적으로 높일 수 있었다 According to supply of smart-phone which has high-performance, high-quality, most mobile applications also have high-quality image and large amounts of memory. However, the feature of mobile device, including various constraints such as memory and performance constraints. Therefore, mobile application development is based on the device operating system and system analysis and consideration in the development of an effective work to be more important than ever. In particular, a Java-based Android system, because of the size restrictions on memory usage about image-related resources such as a bitmap image, within these constraints, the quality of the application and utilization of efficient memory management techniques such as improving response time are as necessary. In this paper, analyze the problems associated with memory constraints on the Android system. Also, considering these problems, memory-management techniques are proposed to develop the most effective in the application of managing image and related resources. Through this technique, a limited memory resources on the high quality images are able to effectively deal with an application to improving response time was also effective.

환경에 대한 관심이 증가하면서 천연액화가스(LNG)가 급증하고 있다. LNG의 안정적 공급을 위해서는 빠르고 정확한 모니터링, 이상 감지, 진단 시스템의 구축이 필수적이다. LNG plant의 경우 sensor의 개수가 많고 각 sensor간의 상관관계가 높아서 principal component analysis 방법을 통하여 빠르고 정확하게 이상 감지, 진단을 수행 할 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 LNG plant에서 전처리 공정의 마지막인 fractionation을 dynamic model을 통하여 이상을 감지하고 진단하는 연구를 수행하였다. Sensor 정보, 장치의 specification, feed stream과 product stream의 component를 만족하는 모델을 구축하고 PCA modeling을 통하여 유량 변화, column의 온도 변화의 원인을 정확히 감지, 진단하는 성과를 이루었다.
