      • E-Selectin S128R Polymorphism is Associated with Cancer Risk: a Meta-analysis

Cheng, Da-Ye,Hao, Yi-Wen,Zhou, Wen-Ling,Ma, Yi-Ran Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2014 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.15 No.7

Background: Genetic factors have been shown to play an important role in the development of cancers. However, individual studies may fail to completely demonstrate complicated genetic relationships because of small sample size. Therefore, we performed a meta-analysis to evaluate the association of E-selectin Ser128Arg (S128R) with cancer risk. Materials and Methods: A literature search in PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, Science Direct, SpringerLink, EBSCO, Wanfang, and Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure databases was carried out to identify studies of the association between E-selectin S128R polymorphism and cancer risk. The odds ratio (OR) with 95% confidence intervals (95%CIs) were used to assess the strength of association. Results: A total of eight studies involving 1,675 cancer cases and 2,285 controls were included in the meta-analysis. In overall populations, S128R polymorphism seemed to be associated with cancer risk (Arg allele vs Ser allele: OR=1.65, 95%CI =1.33-2.04, p<0.01; Arg/Arg+Arg/Ser vs Ser/Ser: OR=1.87, 95%CI =1.48-2.36, p<0.01; Arg/Ser vs Ser/Ser: OR=1.80, 95%CI =1.51-2.14, p<0.01). Similarly, subgroup analysis by ethnicity and source of control also revealed that this polymorphism was related to cancer risk. Conclusions: Our meta-analysis revealed that there was association between the E-selectin S128R polymorphism and the risk of cancer. Further large and well-designed studies are needed to confirm this association.

      • Expression of C4.4A is a Potential Independent Prognostic Factor for Patients with Gastric Cancer

Cheng, Da-Qing,Gu, Xiao-Dong,Li, Zhen-Yang,Xiang, Jian-Bin,Chen, Zong-You Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2014 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.15 No.9

C4.4A, a metastasis-associated gene, encodes a glycolipid-anchored membrane protein which is overexpressed in several human malignancies. However, there are few data available on C4.4A expression and its relationship with progression in gastric cancer. Our study was designed to explore the expression of C4.4A in gastric cancer and to correlate it with clinical outcome. C4.4A expression was studied by quantitative real-time RT-PCR and immunohistochemistry for assessment of correlations with clinicopathological factors. C4.4A mRNA expression was significantly up-regulated in gastric cancer as compared with noncancerous tissue (p<0.05)., being observed in 107 (88.4%) of the 121 gastric cancer cases by immunohistochemistry. We found that the expression of C4.4A mRNA was correlated with size of the tumor, depth of invasion, lymph node metastasis, distant metastasis and TNM stage. Moreover, patients with overexpression of C4.4A has a significantly worse survival (p<0.05). Further multivariable analysis indicated that the expression of C4.4A was an independent prognostic indicator for gastric cancer (p<0.05). In conclusion, overexpression of C4.4A correlates with metastatic potential of gastric cancer and C4.4A could be a novel independent prognostic marker for predicting outcome.

      • Breastfeeding and Ovarian Cancer Risk: a Systematic Review and Meta-analysis of 40 Epidemiological Studies

        Li, Da-Peng,Du, Chen,Zhang, Zuo-Ming,Li, Guang-Xiao,Yu, Zhi-Fu,Wang, Xin,Li, Peng-Fei,Cheng, Cheng,Liu, Yu-Peng,Zhao, Ya-Shuang Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2014 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.15 No.12

The present systematic review and meta-analysis was conducted to assess any association between breastfeeding and the risk of ovarian cancer. A systematic search of published studies was performed in PUBMED and EMBASE and by reviewing reference lists from retrieved articles through March 2013. Data extraction was conducted independently by two authors. Pooled relative risk ratios were calculated using random-effect models. Totals of 5 cohort studies and 35 case-control studies including 17,139 women with ovarian cancer showed a 30% reduced risk of ovarian cancer when comparing the women who had breastfed with those who had never breastfed (pooled RR = 0.70, 95% CI: 0.64-0.76; p = 0.00), with significant heterogeneity in the studies (p = 0.00; I2 = 76.29%). A significant decreasd in risk of epithelial ovarian cancer was also observed (pooled RR = 0.68, 95% CI: 0.61-0.76). When the participants were restricted to only parous women, there was a slightly attenuated but still significant risk reduction of ovarian cancer (pooled RR = 0.76, 95% CI: 0.69-0.83). For total breastfeeding duration, the pooled RRs in the < 6 months, 6-12 months and > 12 months of breastfeeding subgroups were 0.85 (95% CI: 0.77-0.93), 0.73 (95% CI: 0.65-0.82) and 0.64 (95%CI: 0.56-0.73), respectively. Meta-regression of total breastfeeding duration indicated an increasing linear trend of risk reduction of ovarian cancer with the increasing total breastfeeding duration (p = 0.00). Breastfeeding was inversely associated with the risk of ovarian cancer, especially long-term breastfeeding duration that demonstrated a stronger protective effect.

A novel method for the discrimination of Hawthorn and its processed products using an intelligent sensory system and artificial neural networks

        Da-Shuai Xie,Wei Peng,Jun-Cheng Chen,Liang Li,Chong-Bo Zhao,Shi-Long Yang,Min Xu,Chun-Jie Wu,Li Ai 한국식품과학회 2016 Food Science and Biotechnology Vol.25 No.6

Hawthorn (CFS) has commonly been applied as an important traditional Chinese medicine and food for thousands of years. The raw material of CFS is commonly processed by stir-frying to obtain yellow (CFY), dark brown (CFD), and carbon dark (CFC) colored products, which are used for different clinical uses. In this study, an intelligent sensory system (ISS) was used to obtain the color, gas, and flavor samples data, which were further employed to develop a novel and accurate method for the identification of CFS and its processed products using principal component analysis. Moreover, this research developed a model of an artificial neural network, which could be used to predict the total organic acid, total flavonoids, citric acid, hyperin, and 5-hydroxymethyl furfural via determination of the color, odor, and taste of a sample. In conclusion, the ISS and the artificial neural network are useful tools for rapid, accurate, and effective discrimination of CFS and its processed products.

Vibration analysis of viscoelastic single-walled carbon nanotubes resting on a viscoelastic foundation

        Da-Peng Zhang,Yong-Jun Lei,Cheng-Yuan Wang,Zhi-Bin Shen 대한기계학회 2017 JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Vol.31 No.1

Vibration responses were investigated for a viscoelastic Single-walled carbon nanotube (visco-SWCNT) resting on a viscoelastic foundation. Based on the nonlocal Euler-Bernoulli beam model, velocity-dependent external damping and Kelvin viscoelastic foundation model, the governing equations were derived. The Transfer function method (TFM) was then used to compute the natural frequencies for general boundary conditions and foundations. In particular, the exact analytical expressions of both complex natural frequencies and critical viscoelastic parameters were obtained for the Kelvin-Voigt visco-SWCNTs with full foundations and certain boundary conditions, and several physically intuitive special cases were discussed. Substantial nonlocal effects, the influence of geometric and physical parameters of the SWCNT and the viscoelastic foundation were observed for the natural frequencies of the supported SWCNTs. The study demonstrates the efficiency and robustness of the developed model for the vibration of the visco-SWCNT-viscoelastic foundation coupling system.

Leader-following Cluster Consensus in Multi-agent Systems with Intermittence

        Da Huang,Haijun Jiang,Zhiyong Yu,Chengjun Kang,Cheng Hu 제어·로봇·시스템학회 2018 International Journal of Control, Automation, and Vol.16 No.2

In this paper, the cluster consensus problem of first-order nonlinear multi-agent systems with aperiodic intermittent communication is studied through pinning leader-following approach. The pinning consensus algorithm based on the relative local intermittent information is designed according to the varies linking ways of clustered network structure. New notions of leading intermittence and inter-cluster intermittence which related to the intermittent linking ways of leader-following clustered structure are developed, and several new systems with intermittence are established due to the new notions. Besides, dynamics with inherent delay are also considered to extend our results to a more general framework. The original communication graph without intermittent pattern is supposed to be directed and weakly connected. Some consensus criteria are derived to guarantee that the cluster consensus problem for the systems with intermittent communication can be solved. Finally, numerical simulations are given to illustrate the effectiveness of the theoretical results.

Mechanical Characteristic Analysis of Corrugated Steel Webs Using Asynchronous Construction Technology

Da Wang,Lei Wang,Cheng Tang 대한토목학회 2021 KSCE JOURNAL OF CIVIL ENGINEERING Vol.25 No.1

For application and populization of the corrugated steel web prestressed concrete (PC) composite box-girder bridge, a new asynchronous cantilever construction method was proposed to reflect the social and economic benefits of this type bridge in short term. In this paper, comparisons of the construction process and economic indexes between the traditional hanging basket cantilever construction method and the asynchronous cantilever method. Combination of the large finite element program ANSYS, a fine finite element model of the studied bridge was built, some analysis of the bridge structure were conducted for the whole process of construction, the calculation results were compared with the field testing data by the real-time monitored stress and displacement. The results indicated that the process of asynchronous cantilever construction method is simple and clear, the construction period is short and the economic indicator is high. This proposed asynchronous cantilever construction method is far superior to the traditional hanging basket cantilever construction method. The deformation and stress of structure were varied in a reasonable and safety range during the construction for the proposed method. The structural stress distribution of the proposed method is more reasonable than that of the traditional hanging basket cantilever construction method.

      • Common Genetic Variations in the MUC5AC Gene are Not Related to Helicobacter pylori Serologic Status

        Zhou, Cheng-Jiang,Zhang, Liu-Wei,Gao, Fang,Zhang, Bin,Wang, Ying,Chen, Da-Fang,Jia, Yan-Bin Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2014 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.15 No.24

Several lines of evidence suggest that MUC5AC genetic polymorphisms might confer susceptibility to H. pylori infection and therefore gastric cancer risk. We here assessed the association of common polymorphisms in the MUC5AC gene with H. pylori seroprevalence using an LD-based tagSNP approach in a north-western Chinese Han population. A total of 12 tagSNPs were successfully genotyped among 281 unrelated ethnic Han Chinese who had no cancer history, and no identifiable gastric disease or genetic disease. No significant association between any alleles, genotypes or haplotypes and H. pylori seroprevalence was observed. Our results suggest that common genetic variations in MUC5AC gene might not make a major contribution to the risk of H. pylori infection.
