In this paper we study various computationally intelligent architectures for prediction of pressure values and velocity components of flow past a three-element airfoil. Six sensor locations are selected around the airfoil and the goal is to predict the flow behavior at the rear of the airfoil using pressure readings from the remaining five sensors. To make the problem more interesting we require the predictor to estimate the flow twenty time steps ahead of current time. Data is collected from CFD simulations of the flow and predictors are built using four different computationally intelligent architectures: Multilayer Perceptron (MLP), Adaptive Neuro Fuzzy Inference System (ANFIS), Radial Basis Function Neural Network (RBFNN), and Least Squares Support Vector Machine (LS-SVM). Levenberg-Marquardt optimization technique is utilized for parameter tuning purposes. In addition, a simple linear predictor is built as a benchmark for comparing the MLP, ANFIS, RBFNN, and LS-SVM based predictors. It is observed that MLP and ANFIS based predictors achieve the best prediction, and the performace of all predictors are superior to that of the simple linear predictor.

A new dispersive liquid–liquid microextraction (DLLME) method is proposed for rapid separation, simultaneous extraction and preconcentration of gold and palladium at ultra trace amounts. Theextraction of the analytes was performed in the presence of 5-[(E)-(2,6-diaminopyridine-3-yl)diazenyl]-1,3,4-thiadiazole-2-thiol (DAT) as chelating agent. Chloroform and acetone were used as extraction anddispersive solvents, respectively. The variables affecting the complexation and extraction conditionswere optimized. The calibration curves were linear in the range of 1.1–85 and 0.9–124 mg L-1 with thedetection limits of 0.4 and 0.6 mg L-1, and with the enrichment factors of 94 and 113 for Au and Pd,respectively. The precision (RSD%) was better than 2.4%. The accuracy of the method was verified byanalysing the certified standard reference material (CDN–PGMS-10). The results show that thedispersive liquid–liquid microextraction pretreatment is a sensitive, rapid, simple and safe method forthe separation/preconcentration of gold and palladium.

Intrinsically proton conducting organic electrolytes based on 2-perfluoroalkyl-ethyl-azides were synthesized via 1,3 cycloaddition between 2-perfluoroalkyl-ethyl-azide and alkynes. FT-IR, elemental analysis and NMR methods were used to characterize the resulting organic electrolytes. Thermal properties were analyzed with thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and the morphology of the organic electrolytes was studied with X-ray diffraction (XRD). The effect of chain length on proton conductivity was investigated with impedance spectrometer. Dielectric constant and electrical modulus formalisms were analyzed and the maximum proton conductivity was measured as 10-2 mS/cm at 180 ℃.
Stability Analysis of a Family of Continuous State Feedback Synthesis: Theory and Experiments

A family of continuous state feedback synthesis based on sliding mode control is analyzed using aLyapunov approach, such that the compensation of growing perturbations together with state variables is shown. Robustness properties of a family of controllers, varying from the well known twisting sliding mode control law tothe PD controller, are studied. A non-smooth Lyapunov function is proposed such that global finite-time stabilityof the origin is demonstrated and tuning rules for the control gains are obtained. Moreover, since the Lyapunovfunction is strict, an upper bound for the convergence time of the closed loop system can be estimated, in spite ofthe growing perturbations with respect to the state. To illustrate the performance and robustness properties of thefeedback synthesis, experimental results are presented, using a one-link pendulum as a test bed.

The D2 dopamine receptor (DRD2) gene is the first candidate gene that has shown promise of an association with alcoholism. A correlation between alcoholism and Al and A2 alleles of this gene has been under research. In this study, in order to determine the frequencies of allele polymorphisms in 52 unrelated type Ⅱ alcoholics and in 93 unrelated controls, extraction of DNA was performed and appropriate condition of polymerase chain reaction (PCR) was established before TaqI enzyme digestion. To determine the significant difference in genotypes and allelic frequencies between the two groups, Fisher's exact test and Yates' corrected chi-square test were performed, respectively. No significant differences were found between the alcoholics and the controls in the current study in genotypes (p = 0.1600) and in the frequency of the Al allele (p = 0.7513). As a result, the data from the study do not support the hypothesis that the Al allele of the DRD2 gene has an association with alcoholism but it could have put additive effect on the determination of the racial differences in the allele frequencies of the TaIA polymorphism.

Apolipoprotein E (Apo E) is important in plasma lipid metabolism and has three major isoforms which are encoded by three allelic forms, ε2, ε3, ε4. To explore the involment of apolipoprotein E gene in alcoholism, Apo E genotypes were evaluated after the digestion with Cfol restriction enzyme in 52 type 11 alcoholics and 120 healthy controls. The frequencies of ApoE alleles in alcoholics were 13% in ε2, 81% in ε3 and 6% in ε4. The corresponding frequencies of the three alleses in control subjects were 7%, 89% and 4%, respectively. There were no significant differences in the distribution of Apo E genotypes and alleles between the alcoholics and the controls (p>0.05).
