Is There Any Additional Benefit of Contrast-Enhanced CT as Part of Routine PET/CT Protocols for the Differentiation of Suspicious Incidental Gastrointestinal 2-Deoxy-18F-FDG Uptake?

        Cornelia Bettina Brendle,Philip Aschoff,Thomas Kratt,Christina Schraml,Matthias Reimold,Claus Detlef Claussen,Christina Anna Pfannenberg 대한영상의학회 2013 Korean Journal of Radiology Vol.14 No.6

Objective: Suspicious incidental gastrointestinal FDG uptake during positron-emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) examinations can be caused by different diseases, including malignancies. However, differentiation with PET alone is difficult. The aim of this study was to investigate the potential of PET alone, contrast-enhanced CT (ceCT), and low-dose CT (ldCT) in routine PET/CT protocols for differentiation of incidental gastrointestinal lesions. Materials and Methods: Sixty patients with incidental gastrointestinal lesions who underwent a routine PET/CT protocol with ldCT and ceCT were retrospectively analysed. The PET lesions were evaluated regarding their FDG uptake patterns and the standard uptake value. The anatomical correlates in both CT protocols were compared in regard to the correct lesion classification with the reference standard endoscopy. Results: Sixty-two lesions were found in 60 patients (17 malignant, 10 premalignant, 5 benign, 13 inflammatory, 17 physiological). The differentiation of the FDG uptake patterns did not enable reliable lesion classification. The positive predictive value for pathology was 0.81 for ceCT in PET/CT and 0.70 for ldCT. Malignancies were detected in 100% of the patients by ceCT vs. 29.4% by ldCT. The false negative rate of ceCT for all pathologies was 31.1%, vs. 68.9% for ldCT. False positive results (17/62) could not be excluded sufficiently by either CT protocol. Conclusion: PET/ceCT protocols provide additional benefit especially in detecting gastrointestinal malignancies as a cause of suspicious incidental gastrointestinal FDG uptake. However, since follow-up endoscopy cannot be forgone due to the considerable false negative rate even with ceCT, the addition of ceCT to a routine PET/ldCT protocol cannot be recommended for this purpose.

      • Predictivity vs. Stipulativity in the Lexicon

( Cornelia Maria Verspoor ) 한국언어정보학회 1998 국제 워크샵 Vol.1998 No.-

This paper discusses the balance which must be made in the lexicon between the capture of gen-eralisations about word use and the reflection of idiosyncratic word use, through the example of the resultative construction. The syntax and semantics of that construction are considered in detail, as is the felicity of a range of instantiations of the construction. The conclusions drawn from this analysis emphasise that the balance of information in the lexicon must be carefully considered. This is par-ticularly true in the context of the various knowledge sources which influence the interpretation and use of a word. Pragmatic reasoning and linguistic conventionalisation are argued to influence the structure of information in the lexicon.

Proximité de langue et confiance: Un modèle financier gagnant ?

        Cornelia Caseau,Kouakou Kouame 고려대학교 응용문화연구소 2015 에피스테메 Vol.0 No.14

Subsequent to the deregulation of the markets in the 1990s, a bigger diversity of clients (Sheth & Shainesh, 2005), and a significant change in consumer behavior, the situation for numerous sectors, such as the bank sector, drastically changed and led to a crisis of confidence. To find a way out of this situation, certain financial organizations looked to improve their image by reinforcing customer-employee interaction and intensifying interpersonal relations (Berry, 1993). In this respect, the experience of the Austrian cooperative bank Raiffeisenlandesbank (RLB NÖ-Wien) could inspire microfinance. The bank provided specific linguistic and intercultural training for its staff working with a multi-ethnic population, and has bank branches with multi-language speaking employees in high immigration density districts. This managerial model could be of particular interest in the Ivory Coast given that the linguistic communication model upon which microfinance is based in the Ivory Coast has shown its limits with regard to an illiterate clientele or one with a poor level of French.

      • Emerging Practices in Foresight and Their Use in STI Policy

Cornelia Daheim,Sven Hirsch 과학기술정책연구원 2015 STI Policy Review Vol.6 No.2

Foresight, a major methodological tool in the STI policy toolbox, has recently featured new directions in methodological development, becoming influenced by progress in information and communication technologies and online tools. However, no overview of these directions has been available so far. Based on a literature review, an interactive workshop, and an international expert survey as well as expert interviews, the research presented here attempts to shed light onto some of the relevant issues by providing a structured overview of recent changes in order to further the debate on the future directions of methodological development in foresight. The paper outlines four clusters of emerging approaches in foresight:Integrated qualitative and quantitative approaches, IT-based and automated foresight, experiential foresight including new forms of communication and interaction such as visualization and gaming, and open and crowd-sourced approaches. The benefits and challenges of the approaches known so far are categorized and summarized, and areas of potential use for each of the clusters in STI contexts are identified.

Students' Perceptions and Expectation Gap on the Skills and Knowledge of Accounting Graduates

ARYANTI, Cornelia,ADHARIANI, Desi Korea Distribution Science Association 2020 The Journal of Asian Finance, Economics and Busine Vol.7 No.9

This study aims to describe the perceptions of accounting students and expectations of employers towards the skills and knowledge needed by accounting graduates in Indonesia. Quantitative method using survey is employed to analyze 103 questionnaires from students and 51 questionnaires from employers. The results showed that students' perceived honesty, continuous learning, and work ethics are important skills, while employers stress the importance of work ethics, teamwork, and time management. Knowledge needed by accounting graduates in the perception of students includes financial accounting, financial reporting, and financial statement analysis, whereas employers perceived the importance of financial statement analysis, knowledge of Microsoft Office program, and financial accounting. Further analysis showed that there is an expectation gap between the perceptions of students and the expectations of employers towards skills - not knowledge - needed by accounting graduates. Although investigations of students' perceptions and employers' expectations have been conducted in previous studies, the information should be updated continuously to reflect the current conditions. This study offers the recent perceptions from students and employers to identify the current expectation gap. This study points to the importance of skills development in the university curriculum in order to develop the skillful human resources in accounting and meet the expectations of employers.

Ethnobotanical Survey, Chemical Composition, and Antioxidant Capacity of Methanolic Extract of the Root Bark of Annona cuneata Oliv.

        Farid Khallouki,Roswitha Haubner,Cornelia M. Ulrich,Robert W. Owen 한국식품영양과학회 2011 Journal of medicinal food Vol.14 No.11

The root bark of Annona cuneata Oliv. is traditionally used in the Democratic Republic of Congo to treat several debilitating conditions, such as hernia, female sterility, sexual asthenia, and parasitic infections. However, little is known about the composition of the secondary plant substances, which may contribute to these traditional medicinal effects. We conducted an ethnobotanical study and then evaluated the composition of the secondary plant substances in extracts of the root bark by using spectroscopic methods. After delipidation, the root bark was lixiviated in methanol, and components in the extract were studied by gas chromatography–mass spectometry, high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC)–electrospray ionization–MS and nano-electrospray ionization–MS–MS. These methods identified 13 secondary plant substances (almost exclusively phenolic compounds): p-hydroxybenzaldehyde (I), vanillin (II), tyrosol (III), 3,4-dihydroxybenzaldehyde (IV), p-hydroxybenzoic acid (V), vanillyl alcohol (VI), syringaldehyde (VII), 4-hydroxy-3-methoxyphenylethanol (VIII), vanillic acid (IX), 3,4-dihydroxybenzoic acid (X), syringic acid (XI), and ferulic acid (XII), along with the phytosterol squalene (XIII). In the HPLC-based hypoxanthine/xanthine oxidase antioxidant assay system, the methanolic extract exhibited potent antioxidant capacity, with a 50% inhibitory concentration of 72 μL, equivalent to 1.38 mg/mL of raw extract. Thus, a methanol extract of A. cuneata Oliv. contained a range of polyphenolic compounds, which may be partly responsible for its known traditional medicinal effects. More detailed studies on the phytochemistry of this important plant species are therefore warranted.
