Convert one outfit to more looks: factors influencing young female college consumers’ intention to purchase transformable apparel

Chunmin Lang,Bingyue Wei 한국의류학회 2019 Fashion and Textiles Vol.6 No.1

Transformable apparel offers two or more functional and/or alternative aesthetic styles through various manipulative methods, which is considered a sustainable alternative in the fashion industry to reduce excess clothing consumption. The study intends to identify the influences of environmental apparel knowledge, environmental beliefs, and personal values on consumers’ intention to purchase transformable apparel products. The theory of reasoned action (TRA) was applied as the foundation for the conceptual framework, which considered attitude and social factors to be crucial factors influencing the intention. Data were collected from 306 female college students in the United States through an online survey. Proposed hypotheses were tested by structural equation modeling (SEM). The results confirmed the positive influences of the tendency for creative choice, environmental beliefs, environmental apparel knowledge, and attitude on female college students’ intention to purchase transformable apparel products. Furthermore, practical and theoretical implications based on the results were discussed as well.

Perceived risks and enjoyment of access-based consumption: identifying barriers and motivations to fashion renting

Chunmin Lang 한국의류학회 2018 Fashion and Textiles Vol.5 No.1

Access-based consumption, a growing trend in today’s society, provides the consumer with an opportunity to have access to new and diverse products without the burden of ownership. As one form of access-based consumption in the fashion industry, fashion renting still lacks development and popularity. The purpose of this study is to identify how perceived risks and frugal shopping affect the attitudes, perceived enjoyment and further behavioral intention toward the adoption of fashion renting. An online survey was conducted with 452 participants in the United States. Structural equation modeling was employed to test the proposed hypotheses. The results confirmed the negative influences of three perceived risks (financial risk, performance risk, psychological risk) and the positive influences of frugal shopping on attitude toward and perceived enjoyment of fashion renting. Additionally, perceived enjoyment and attitudes were both found having positive influences on consumers’ intention toward fashion renting. This study contributes to existing literature by discovering the effects of perceived risks on attitude and perceived enjoyment of fashion renting and further fashion renting intentions. Managerial suggestions are also provided to promote fashion renting in the future.

      • Research on Power Control Algorithms Based on Stackelberg Game Model in Two-tier Network

Chunmin Qiu,Fei Lao 보안공학연구지원센터 2016 International Journal of u- and e- Service, Scienc Vol.9 No.1

With the continuous development of information, wireless network has become an integral part of people’s everyday lives. With the explosive growth of data in wireless network, the interferences and competition for resources are more and more serious, especially in the intensive network scenarios. Power control can effectively reduce the interference to improve throughput, save energy and prolong the service life of equipment. This paper proposes a power optimization strategy for Femtocell base station in LTE-A, a two-tier network. It plans the problem into Stackelberg Game, as Stackelberg Game model well describes the user behaviors, making it an effective analysis tool. Then this paper researches the Stackelberg equilibrium and obtains the optimal power distribution and optimal power pricing method. Based on it, a distributed non-uniform pricing algorithm, DNP, is proposed for Femtocell base station deployment. It realizes the distributed deployment with low complexity and less information interaction, and also shows a good performance through simulation, thus having a guiding significance for the power control scheme of Femtocell base station deployment.

      • Creativity and sustainable apparel retail models: does consumers’ tendency for creative choice counter-conformity matter in sustainability?

        Chunmin Lang,Cosette M. Armstrong,Chuanlan Liu 한국의류학회 2016 Fashion and Textiles Vol.3 No.1

The purpose of this study is to identify the relationships between consumer’s tendency for creative choice counter-conformity (TCCC) with the acceptance of new sustainable apparel retail models, including sale of redesigned clothing, clothing repair/alteration, renting, swapping, and style consultancy services, in addition to determining the role of demographics in the relationships. Three major hypotheses were developed to address these relationships. An online survey was conducted with 431 females in the United States. A series of multiple regression analyses and multi-group Chi square difference tests were employed to test the proposed hypotheses. The results indicate TCCC has a positive influence on the intention to adopt all five of the sustainable retail models, and the demographics, including age, income and education significantly moderate the relationships between TCCC and the adoption of new sustainable retail models. The study emphasizes the role of creative expression in potential sustainable apparel purchasing behavior and provides strategies used to promote retailing models that are requisite to sustainability.

Fabrication of porous ceramics from polysiloxane-metallocene polyethylene blends with carbon dioxide

        Chunmin Wang,Jin Wang,Chul B. Park,김영욱 한양대학교 세라믹연구소 2009 Journal of Ceramic Processing Research Vol.10 No.1

Porous silicon oxycarbide (SiOC) ceramics with controllable open-cell content were made by compounding, foaming, and pyrolyzing polysiloxane and metallocene-polyethylene (mPE) polymer blends. Aimed at the development of desired foamable polysiloxane-polyolefin blends, the rheological properties of the polysiloxane and the mPE polymer were characterized, and the effects of mPE content and processing temperature on the compounding behaviors of the polysiloxane-mPE blend system were investigated. Furthermore, porous preceramics were fabricated from the polysiloxane-mPE blends with high pressure CO2 using batch foaming technology. Finally, the preceramic foams were converted to porous silicon oxycarbide ceramics by completing the organic-inorganic transition via controlled pyrolysis, and open-channels were made in the cell walls by burning out the sacrificial dispersed mPE phase during pyrolysis.

Psychogenic antecedents and apparel customization: moderating effects of gender

        Su-kyung Seo,Chunmin Lang 한국의류학회 2019 Fashion and Textiles Vol.6 No.1

The impact of gender is critical in consumer behavior; however, gender differences have been overlooked in consumer studies. The purpose of this study is to examine how behavior-inducing psychogenic needs (i.e., need for uniqueness, self-promotion, and social identity) influence the way individuals perceive apparel customization, leading to buying intention of customized apparel products. Further, to identify whether gender plays a moderating role in the relationships between those psychogenic needs and the perception of apparel customization. The conceptual model was tested by conducting an online survey of 338 samples from college students in the United States. Structural equation modeling (SEM) was utilized for hypotheses testing. The structural multi-group model was conducted and path coefficient comparisons were made to test the moderating effects of gender. The results indicated that need for uniqueness and social identity are strong determinant factors in eliciting positive perceptions of customization, ultimately resulting in buying intention of customized apparel products; however, the effects of self-promotion was not significant. The results also illustrated that differences exist in antecedents toward customization perception between genders. Both genders are commonly motivated by need for uniqueness. However, males are more driven by social identity and need for uniqueness, whereas females are more inspired by self-promotion. The results offer managerial implications by providing retailers with consumers’ behavior toward fashion customization based on gender differences.
