Fluorescent nitrogen-doped carbon dots (N-CDs) with excellent stability were prepared via single-step hydrothermal carbonization of citric acid (CA) and ethylenediamine (EDA). The as-prepared N-CDs emit blue fluorescence under the excitation of 365 nm and have a size distribution of 2.80 ffi 0.47 nm with benign size effect. The structure and morphology were further characterized by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy. It was found that the surface of the N-CDs was successfully functionalized, which presented water solubility and chelation with Fe3+. XRD results display a diffraction peak at 23.9 ℃, which corresponds to the (002) interlayer spacing of a graphitic structure revealing an amorphous carbon phase. Furthermore, due to good sensitivity, N-CDs were used as probes for Fe3+ detection. The low limit of detection of 0.6 μM as a fluorescence probe was successfully obtained based on the linear relationship between (F0 - F) / F0 and concentration of Fe3+ ions. Besides the satisfactory fluorescence, PVA/N-CDs membranes and fluorescent inks demonstrate potential for anti-counterfeiting applications due to its characteristic flexibility, transparency, removability and invisibility under ambient lighting.

The naproxen enantiomers were separated and analyzed by HPLC using ordinary reversed column and chiral mobile phase additive. The methods were validated with the terms of linearity, intraday and interday precision, accuracy and selectivity. The (R)- and (S)-naproxen were successfully separated on Zorbax SB-C18 column with a mixture of 0.05 M phosphate buffer (pH 3) containing 10 mM methyl-β -cyclodextrin as a chiral selector and methanol (80:20, v/v) as mobile phase. The flow rate was 0.2 mL/min and naproxen was detected with UV at 231 nm. The range of intra- and inter-day prescision of (S)-naproxen were 1.05~1.62% and 1.05~2.96%, respectively, with accuracy of 99.6~101.1%. The contents of (S)-naproxen in commercial naproxen tablets were determined by validated method and showed 93.2~101.1% of stated amounts.
A two-stage source extraction algorithm for temporally correlated signals based on ICA-R

Blind source extraction (BSE) is a special class of blind source separation (BSS) methods, which only extracts one or a subset of the sources at a time. Based on the time delay of the desired signal, a simple but important extraction algorithm (simplified ” BC algorithm”)was presented by Barros and Cichocki. However, the performance of this method is not satisfying in some cases for which it only carries out the constrained minimization of the mean squared error. To overcome these drawbacks, ICA with reference (ICA-R) based approach, which considers the higherorder statistics of sources, is added as the second stage for further source extraction. Specifically, BC algorithm is exploited to roughly extract the desired signal. Then the extracted signal in the first stage, as the reference signal of ICA-R method, is further used to extract the desired sources as cleanly as possible. Simulations on synthetic data and real-world data show its validity and usefulness.

Effects of different hydrolytic conditions on functional ingredient contents and antioxidant activities of aqueous enzymatic extracts from rice bran (AEERB) were evaluated and correlations were determined. After trypsin hydrolysis under weak alkalescent conditions, the soluble protein, total phenolic, α-tocopherol, and γ-oryzanol contents of AEERB were increased. Excessively high temperatures (>60℃) and long hydrolysis times (>2.0 h) were not suitable for enzymatic hydrolysis. The free radical scavenging activity, ferric reducing/antioxidant power, lipid peroxidation inhibition activity, and total antioxidant activity were used for evaluation of the antioxidant activity. AEERB displayed an antioxidant activity and correlations of concentration levels of functional ingredients with antioxidant activity were significantly (p<0.05) positive.
