Effect of Dietary Monascus Pigment on the Liver Damage Induced with CCI₄in Rats

In the biological world, there are a number of ecological fights for survival between each organism such as plants, animals and microorganism. In such events, an organism can use its natural bioactive products as defence agent against other organism. Furthermore, natural bioactive products can be utilized for medicine or functional food. Recently, we investigate the effect of Monascus pigment extracted from a fungus, Monascus anke, on the alcohol metabolism and blood lipid profile. In the present study, it is observed that Monascus pigment supplemented dietary may have a hepatoprotective effect on rat's liver damage induced with CCl₄. By treatment with CCl₄(3 times, I.P), liver damage was reduced more in the rats fed 2% Monascus pigment extract supplemented diet than those fed standard diet, based on the serum levels of alanine aminotransferase, microsomal glucose-6-phosphatse activity and hepaic malondialdehyde content. On the other hand, oxygen free radical generating enzymes, hepatic P-450 dependent aniline hydroxylase, xanthine oxidase, and oxygen free radical scavenging enzymes, hepatic glutathione S-transferase, catalase, superoxide dismutase activities were generally higher both in CCl₄, treated group and control fed 2% Monascus pigment extract supplemented diet than those fed standard diet. In conclusion, the rats fed 2% Monascus pigment extract supplemented diet showed more reduced liver damage than those fed standard diet, which may be due to the acceleration of oxygen free radical metabolism.

Purpose: This paper proposes a quality strategy based on the evolution of technology in the age of the 4th Industrial Revolution. Methods: We examine the theory of past quality activities and the changes in quality paradigm, and analyze key words for the technologies and key issues of the 4th Industrial Revolution. Based on existing quality management, we find a quality strategy that should be pursued during the 4th Industrial Revolution. Results: Quality has been recognized as an essential component of corporate competitiveness. The paradigm of quality has also changed with the pass of time and industry development. From this viewpoint, the following eight quality strategies are proposed for the development of the technology of the 4th Industrial Revolution period, such as Market-to-customer fusion quality, symbiotic quality, big data quality, technical accuracy and zero-defect quality, facility predictability quality, software quality, process flexibility quality, and information protection stability and security quality. Conclusion: Quality for customer satisfaction is still important nowadays. However, in the 4th Industrial Revolution era, where various business models and methods of manufacturing are expected, the big data utilization, software quality, and the reliability and security of information protection to support it are important.
Preparation and Stability Evaluation of Docetaxel-Loaded Oral Liposome

Docetaxel-loaded liposomes were prepared by emulsion-solvent evaporation method, then coated with chitosan at room temperature and lyophilized. This system was designed in order to improve solubility and stability of docetaxel in the GI tract for oral drug delivery. The solubilizing effect of some frequently used solubilizers and/or liposome was determined. Among the results docetaxel-loaded liposomes prepared with 0.5% TPGS as a solubilizer showed 100-fold higher solubility than docetaxel. In a stability test, mean particle size of different liposome formulations was measured by a particle size analyzer in simulated gastric fluid (SGF) and in simulated intestinal fluid (SIF). The particle size of uncoated liposomes was significantly increased compared with that of chitosan-coated liposomes in SGF, however, there was no significant difference between coated and uncoated liposome in SIF. It is evident that chitosan-coated liposomes were more stable in GI conditions. The release characteristics of docetaxel-loaded liposomes were also investigated in three buffer solutions (pH 1.2, 4.0, 6.8). Docetaxel release did not occur in pH 1.2 for 4 hrs. However, in pH 4.0 and 6.8 conditions, docetaxel was gradually released over 24 hrs as a sustained release. It seems that aggregation and precipitation of particles by electrostatic interaction might protect docetaxel from being released. In Conclusion, the results from this study show that the chitosan-coated liposomes may be useful in enhancing solubility and GI stability of docetaxel.

Purpose: This paper explores the various ways of promoting innovative activities adopted by the companies for raising their competitive positions among the industry based on the previous studies. Methods: A number of successful and mediocre cases of industries were reviewed carefully, and then the customized innovative model was established. Key categories and core elements were first identified for establishing progressive corporate culture and validated with the case of a company with multiple business areas. Results: The key categories were identified as strategic, systematic, human resources, and cultural aspects. The resulting core elements were consistent with those of the case company. Conclusion: Analyzing diverse product groups and companies with different organization culture, the key categories and core elements were derived and validated for companies to win the competitive position in the industry.
