Effects of metal-molecule interface conformations on the electron transport of single molecule
Ping Bai,Er Ping Li,Chee Ching Chong,Zhikuan Chen 한국물리학회 2006 Current Applied Physics Vol.6 No.3
The electron transport eects of molecule locations on the metal interface are investigated through metalmoleculemetal systemsusing the rst principles method, based on density functional theory with norm conserving non-local pseudopotentials and non-equilib-rium Green’s functions. Three kinds of moleculemetal interface conformations are studied. These include locating the molecule on thetop, at the hollow site and on the bridge of metal surface atoms. AumoleculeAu open systems are constructed and numerically exam-sion functions of constructed systems are calculated and analyzed. Simulated results show that the on-atom contact exhibits the bestmoleculemetal coupling when an external bias lower than 1.4 V is applied. The bridge contact has a similar coupling as the hollow con-tact with a small dierence at larger external bias. This may partially explain why experimental results have poor repeatability.

Objective: The relationship of antipsychotics and the risk of refracture in treated patients is unclear. The aim of this study is to evaluate the association between prolonged antipsychotic and the incidences of bone fractures and refractures in schizophrenia. Methods: This is a retrospective nested case-control study using Taiwan National Health Insurance Research Database recorded from 2000 to 2005, with cases followed up to end of 2011. Total of 7,842 schizophrenic patients, 3,955 had developed bone fractures were compared with 3,887 control subjects matched in age, sex, and index date. Antipsychotic drug exposure was classified based on the drug type and medication duration. Conditional logistic regression analyses were performed. Odds ratio (OR) and confidence interval (CI) were calculated. Results: We found (after adjustments) higher risks of developing fractures under continued use of typical (OR = 1.70; 95% CI, 1.51−1.91) or atypical antipsychotics (OR = 1.43; 95% CI, 1.28−1.60) were found. Additionally, continued use typical (OR = 1.84; 95% CI, 1.35−2.50) or atypical antipsychotics (OR = 1.44; 95% CI, 1.06−1.95) was positively associated with refracture risks. Moreover, refractures were associated with continuous use of chlorpromazine (one typical antipsychotics, OR = 2.45; 95% CI, 1.14−5.25), and risperidone (OR = 1.48; 95% CI, 1.01−2.16) or zotepine (OR = 2.15; 95% CI, 1.06−4.36) (two atypical antipsychotics). Conclusion: Higher risks of bone fracture and refracture were found in schizophrenia under prolonged medication with typical or atypical antipsychotics. We therefore recommend that clinicians should pay more attention on bone density monitoring for patients using long-term antipsychotics.

LMC X-4 is an eclipsing high-mass X-ray binary exhibiting a superorbital modulation with a period of ~ 30:5 days. We present a detailed study of the variations of the superorbital modulation period with a time baseline of ~ 18 years. The period determined in the light curve collected by the Monitor of All-sky X-ray Image (MAXI) significantly deviates from that observed by the All Sky Monitor (ASM) onboard the Rossi X-ray Timing Explorer (RXTE). Using the data collected by RXTE/ASM, MAXI, and the Burst Alert Telescope (BAT) onboard Swift, we found a significant period derivative, $\dot{P}=(2.08{\pm}0.12){\times}10^{-5}$. Furthermore, the O{C residual shows complex short-term variations indicating that the superorbital modulation of LMC X-4 exhibits complicated unstable behaviors. In addition, we used archive data collected by the Proportional Counter Array (PCA) on RXTE to estimate the orbital and spin parameters. The detected pulse frequencies obtained in small time segments were fitted with a circular orbital Doppler shift model. In addition to orbital parameters and spin frequency for each observation, we found a spin frequency derivative of $\dot{v}=(6.482{\pm}0.011){\times}10^{-13}Hz{\cdot}s^{-1}$. More precise orbital and spin parameters will be evaluated by the pulse arrival time delay technique in the future.
APPLICATIONS OF THE HILBERT-HUANG TRANSFORM ON THE NON-STATIONARY ASTRONOMICAL TIME SERIES

The development of time-frequency analysis techniques allow astronomers to successfully deal with the non-stationary time series that originate from unstable physical mechanisms. We applied a recently developed time-frequency analysis method, the Hilbert-Huang transform (HHT), to two non-stationary phenomena: the superorbital modulation in the high-mass X-ray binary SMC X-1 and the quasi-periodic oscillation (QPO) of the AGN RE J1034+396. From the analysis of SMC X-1, we obtained a Hilbert spectrum that shows more detailed information in both the time and frequency domains. Then, a phase-resolved analysis of both the spectra and the orbital profiles was presented. From the spectral analysis, we noticed that the iron line production is dominated by different regions of this binary system in different superorbital phases. Furthermore, a pre-eclipse dip lying at orbital phase ~0:6-0:85 was discovered during the superorbital transition state. We further applied the HHT to analyze the QPO of RE J1034+396. From the Hilbert spectrum and the O-C analysis results, we suggest that it is better to divide the evolution of the QPO into three epochs according to their different periodicities. The correlations between the QPO periods and corresponding fluxes were also different in these three epochs. The change in periodicity and the relationships could be interpreted as the change in oscillation mode based on the diskoseismology model.

Juvenile systemic lupus erythematosus (JSLE) is an autoimmune- mediated multiorgan disease. The cutaneous manifestation is one of the most common initial presentations in JSLE. A typical lesion is a facial malar rash, but a patient may sometimes present with nonclassical lesions. Herein, we report two cases of JSLE with similar persistent scaly ear rashes as the heralding cutaneous symptom preceding systemic symptoms. Identifying this atypical and underestimated cutaneous rash in juvenile patients might help the clinician make the correct diagnosis and provide earlier intervention, which may help prevent disease progression. Indirect Adaptive Nonlinear Self-Balancing and Station Keeping for Omnidirectional Riding Chair
Ching-Chih Tsai,Yi-Ping Ciou,Feng-Chun Tai,Hsiao-Lang Wu 제어로봇시스템학회 2014 제어로봇시스템학회 국제학술대회 논문집 Vol.2014 No.10
This paper presents indirect adaptive self-balancing and station keeping control methods using recurrent Wavelet Fuzzy CMAC (RWFCMAC) for an omnidirectional ball-driven chair in presence of significant system uncertainties. By backstepping, sliding-mode control and RWFCMAC, the self-balancing controller is synthesized to follow the rider’s inclination angles in both two axes (x-z and y-z axis), and the station-keeping controller is designed to allow the rider to maintain the vehicle at the same place. The RWFCMAC is designed to online learning the uncertainties caused by riders’ weights and different unknown frictions between the ball and terrain surfaces. The superior performance and merit of the proposed control methods are well exemplified by comparing to two existing controllers.

In the present study, the antioxidative and inhibitory activity of Zingiber officinale Rosc. rhizomes- derived materials (on mushroom tyrosinase) were evaluated. The bioactive components of Z. officinale rhizomes were characterized by spectroscopic analysis as zingerone and dehydrozingerone, which exhibited potent antioxidant and tyrosinase inhibition activities. A series of substituted dehydrozingerones [(E)-4-phenyl-3-buten-2-ones] were prepared in admirable yields by the reaction of appropriate benzaldehydes with acetone and the products were evaluated in terms of variation in the dehydrozingerone structure. The synthetic analogues were examined for their antioxidant and antityrosinase activities to probe the most potent analogue. Compound 26 inhibited Fe2+-induced lipid peroxidation in rat brain homogenate with an IC50 = 6.3±0.4 µM. In the 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical quencher assay, compounds 2, 7, 17, 26, 28, and 29 showed radical scavenging activity equal to or higher than those of the standard antioxidants, like α-tocopherol and ascorbic acid. Compound 27 displayed superior inhibition of tyrosinase activity relative to other examined analogues. Compounds 2, 17, and 26 exhibited non-competitive inhibition against oxidation of 3,4- dihydroxyphenylalanine (L-DOPA). From the present study, it was observed that both number and position of hydroxyl groups on aromatic ring and a double bond between C-3 and C-4 played a critical role in exerting the antioxidant and antityrosinase activity.
