Precipitation Behavior of σ Phase in Fusion Zone of Dissimilar Stainless Steel Welds during Multi-Pass GTAW Process

( Chih Chun Hsieh ),( Tao Chih Chang ),( Dong Yih Lin ),( Ming Che Chen ),( Wei Te Wu ) 대한금속재료학회 ( 구 대한금속학회 ) 2007 METALS AND MATERIALS International Vol.13 No.5

The purpose of this study is to investigate the precipitation characteristics of σ phase in the fusion zone of stainless steel welds at various welding passes during a tungsten arc welding (GTAW) process. The morphology, quantity, and chemical composition of the δ-ferrite and σ phase were analyzed using optical microscopy (OM), a ferritscope (FS), a X-ray diffractometer (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), an electron probe micro-analyzer (EPMA), and a wavelength dispersive spectrometer (WDS), respectively. Massive δ-ferrite was observed in the fusion zone of the first pass welds during welding of dissimilar stainless steels. The σ phase precipitated at the inner δ-ferrite particles and decreased δ-ferrite content during the third pass welding. The σ and δ phases can be stabilized by Si element, which promoted the phase transformation of δ→σ + γ2 in the fusion zone of the third pass welds. It was found that the σ phase was a Fe-Cr-Si intermetallic compound found in the fusion zone of the third pass welds during multi-pass welding.

      • Newborn Screening for Lysosomal Storage Diseases in Taiwan

Lin, Hsiang-Yu,Chuang, Chih-Kuang,Lin, Shuan-Pei Association for Research of MPS and Rare Diseases 2017 Journal of mucopolysaccharidosis and rare disease Vol.3 No.1

Lysosomal storage diseases (LSDs) are a group of rare inherited metabolic disorders caused by the deficiency of specific lysosomal enzymes and subsequent accumulation of substrates. Enzyme deficiency leads to progressive intra-lysosomal accumulation of the incompletely degraded substances, which cause dysfunction and destruction of the cell and eventually multiple organ damage. Patients have a broad spectrum of clinical phenotypes which are generally not specific for some LSDs, leading to missed or delayed diagnosis. Due to the availability of treatment including enzyme replacement therapy (ERT) and hematopoietic stem cell transplantation for some LSDs, early diagnosis is important. ERT products have been approved with optimal outcomes for some LSDs in the recent decades, including Gaucher, Fabry, mucopolysaccharidosis (MPS) I, Pompe, MPS VI, MPS II, and MPS IVA diseases. ERT can stabilize the clinical condition, prevent disease progression, and improve the long-term outcome of these diseases, especially if started prior to irreversible organ damage. Based on the availability of therapy and suitable screening methods in the recent years, some LSDs, including Pompe, Fabry, Gaucher, MPS I, MPS II, and MPS VI diseases have been incorporated into nationwide newborn screening panels in Taiwan.

New perspectives of biomarkers for the management of chronic hepatitis B

        ( Chih-lin Lin ),( Jia-horng Kao ) 대한간학회 2016 Clinical and Molecular Hepatology(대한간학회지) Vol.22 No.4

With recent advances in molecular and genomic investigations, the impact of hepatitis B viral and host factors on the progression of chronic HBV infection has been explored. For viral factors, hepatitis B viral load is a strong predictor for liver disease progression. Hepatitis B viral kinetics appear to be important for successful anti-viral therapy. Serum HBsAg level serves as a complementary marker to viral load for the prediction of HBV-related adverse outcomes in patients with low viral load. In those with low viral load, high serum HBsAg level is associated with higher risks of cirrhosis and HCC. Hepatitis B core-related antigen (HBcrAg) induces host immune responses, and the reduction of the HBcrAg level as well as the increment of total anti-HBc level are significantly associated with favorable outcomes. HBV genotypes (genotype C/D) and mutants (basal core promoter and deletion mutation in pre-S genes) are well known viral genetic markers to predict disease progression. For host factors, serum inflammatory biomarkers have been developed to evaluate the HBV-associated hepatic necroinflammation and fibrosis. Host single nucleotide polymorphism on sodium taurocholate cotransporting polypeptide (NTCP, an HBV entry receptor) may be associated with a decreased risk for cirrhosis and HCC. In conclusion, patients with chronic hepatitis B should be evaluated with relevant viral and host markers to identify those who are at a higher risk of liver disease progression and then receive timely antiviral therapy. • Resonant vibration of piezoceramic plates in fluid

        Lin, Yu-Chih,Ma, Chien-Ching Techno-Press 2008 Interaction and multiscale mechanics Vol.1 No.2

In this paper, both experimental measurement and theoretical analysis are used to investigate the out-of-plane resonant characteristics of a cantilevered piezoceramic plate in air and three different kinds of fluid. The experimental method, amplitude-fluctuation electronic speckle pattern interferometry (AF-ESPI), is the major technique used in this study to measure the resonant characteristics of the cantilivered piezoceramic plate. Both resonant frequencies and full-field mode shapes are obtained from this experimental technique. Numerical computations based on the finite element analysis are presented for comparison with the experimental results. Good quality of mode shapes for the cantilevered piezoceramic plate in air is obtained from the AF-ESPI technique. However, the quality decreases as the viscosity of fluids increases. From the results provided from experimental measurements and numerical computations, it is indicated that the resonant frequencies of the cantilevered piezoceramic plate in fluid decrease with the increase of the viscosity of fluids. Good agreements between the experimental measured data and the numerical calculated results are found for both resonant frequencies and mode shapes of the cantilevered piezoceramic plate in fluid.

Development of hepatocellular carcinoma in treated and untreated patients with chronic hepatitis B virus infection

        Chih-Lin Lin,Jia-Horng Kao 대한간학회 2023 Clinical and Molecular Hepatology(대한간학회지) Vol.29 No.3

Hepatitis B virus (HBV) is responsible for more than 50% of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) in HBV hyperendemic areas, such as the Asia-Pacific region. Several hepatitis B viral factors are involved in HBV-related hepatocarcinogenesis. Hepatitis B viral load is the most important risk factor of HCC development. In addition, HBV integration, HBV genotype C, and core-promoter mutations are also associated with a risk of HCC development. For untreated chronic hepatitis B (CHB) patients, the estimated HCC incidence rates per 100 patient-years were 0.03–0.17 in inactive carriers, 0.07–0.42 in asymptomatic carriers, 0.12–0.49 in chronic hepatitis, and 2.03–3.37 in cirrhosis. Complementary to HBV DNA, serum levels of the hepatitis B surface antigen and hepatitis B core-related antigen (HBcrAg) can predict the occurrence of HCC for untreated patients with low and intermediate viral loads, respectively. For patients receiving antiviral therapy, the risks of HCC occurrence 40–60% lower than those for untreated patients. Patients treated with residual detectable HBV DNA or intrahepatic cccDNA still have a risk of HCC. Serum levels of HBcrAg, M2BPGi and fibrosis-4 are predictive of the risk of HCC development in treated patients. Several well-developed HCC risk scores can help clinicians identify high-risk CHB patients for HCC surveillance, regardless of treatment status. These strategies can help minimize the threat of HCC and prolong survival in CHB patients.

      • The Ship Demolition Market behind the Economic Miracle in Taiwan

        Chih-lung Lin(林志龍) 한국외국어대학교 대만연구센터 2020 대만연구 Vol.- No.15·16

The demolition industry is in the final destination of all ships worldwide. It is also notorious due to the pollution produced. In spite of the damages to the environment, many countries maintain this business operation. This paper outlines the short history of the ship demolition industry in Taiwan from its beginnings in 1945 to its end in the early 1980s. The general workings of this industry are known about, but detailed information is unavailable and low status. The ship demolition industry could be seen as the other side of the economic growth in Taiwan. It promoted the economy while damaging the environment. It was a typical industry of that period in Taiwan, when a firm expected low costs to make more profit. It is also an industry that the Taiwanese Government refrained from assisting as the shipbreakers helped themselves. As an industry whose machinations have been ignored and neglected in academics internationally, this case study would benefit the development of this subject for academic research.

      • Nonlinear Control Design of LSM Drive System Using Adaptive Modified Recurrent Laguerre Orthogonal Polynomial NN Backstepping Control

        Chih-Hong Lin,Jun-Kai Chen 전력전자학회 2015 ICPE(ISPE)논문집 Vol.2015 No.6

The good control performance of the permanent magnet linear synchronous motor (LSM) drive system is very difficult achieved by using linear controller due to the uncertainty effects such as ending-frictious force. An adaptive modified recurrent Laguerre orthogonal polynomial neural network (NN) backstepping control system is proposed to increase the robustness of the LSM drive system. Firstly, the field-oriented mechanism is applied to formulate the dynamic equation of the LSM drive system. Secondly, a backstepping approach is proposed to control the motion of LSM drive system. With proposed backstepping cotrol system, the mover position of the LSM drive possesses the advantages of good transient control performance and robustness. Because the LSM drive system existed in much nonlinear and time-varying uncertainties, an adaptive modified recurrent Laguerre orthogonal polynomial NN uncertainty observer is proposed to estimate the lumped uncertainties in order to enhance robustness of the LSM drive system. The on-line parameter training methodology of the adaptive modified recurrent Laguerre orthogonal polynomial NN is based on Lyapunov stability theorem. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed control system is verified by experimental results.

Comparative Study Between Behavior Therapy and Behavior Therapy Plus Mirabegron 50 mg in Sexually Active Men With Bothersome Overactive Bladder Symptoms – A Multicenter, Randomized Study

        Chih-Chieh Lin,Hann-Chorng Kuo,Jian-Ri Li,Yao-Chi Chuang 대한배뇨장애요실금학회 2023 International Neurourology Journal Vol.27 No.3

Purpose: We evaluated the therapeutic effects on overactive bladder (OAB) symptoms and sexual function of behavioral therapy with or without mirabegron in sexually active male patients with OAB. Mirabegron, a selective β3 adrenoceptor agonist for the treatment of OAB, has been shown to induce corpus cavernosum relaxation. Methods: In this 4-site, randomized controlled trial, 150 sexually active men with OAB were enrolled between June 2020 and May 2022. Participants were randomly allocated (1:2) into 2 treatment groups: (1) behavioral therapy alone (n=50) and (2) a combination of mirabegron 50 mg daily and behavioral therapy (n=100). The evaluation was based on the overactive bladder symptoms score (OABSS), the International Index of Erectile Function, the ejaculatory domain short form, the International Prostate Symptom Score, patient perception of bladder condition, quality of life, and urodynamic parameters. The therapeutic outcomes were assessed at baseline, 4 weeks, and 12 weeks. Results: There were 65 patients (65%) in the combination subgroup and 36 patients in the behavioral therapy who completed all 12 weeks of treatment. Both groups had a statistically significant improvement in OABSS after 12 weeks of treatment. The combination therapy group achieved a statistically significant improvement in all 4 subscores of OABSS, however, the urinary frequency (P=0.120) and urinary incontinence (P=0.234) subscores in the behavioral therapy only group did not show a significant change. Additionally, the combination group had a significant improvement in functional bladder capacity, which was not seen in the behavioral therapy group. However, both groups did not have a significant change in erectile or ejaculatory function. Conclusions: Behavioral therapy combined with mirabegron had more significant impact on the improvement of OAB than behavior therapy alone. However, both groups did not have significant changes in erectile or ejaculatory function.

Static analysis of multiple graphene sheet systems in cylindrical bending and resting on an elastic medium

        Chih-Ping Wu,Chih-Chen Lin 국제구조공학회 2020 Structural Engineering and Mechanics, An Int'l Jou Vol.75 No.1

An asymptotic local plane strain elasticity theory is reformulated for the static analysis of a simply-supported, multiple graphene sheet system (MGSS) in cylindrical bending and resting on an elastic medium. The dimension of the MGSS in the y direction is considered to be much greater than those in the x and z directions, such that all the field variables are considered to be independent of the y coordinate. Eringen’s nonlocal constitutive relations are used to account for the small length scale effects in the formulation examining the static behavior of the MGSS. The interaction between the MGSS and its surrounding foundation is modelled as a Winkler foundation with the parameter kw, and the interaction between adjacent graphene sheets (GSs) is considered using another Winkler model with the parameter cw. A parametric study with regard to some effects on the static behavior of the MGSS resting on an elastic medium is undertaken, such as the aspect ratio, the number of the GSs, the stiffness of the medium between the adjacent layers and that of the surrounding medium of the MGSS, and the nonlocal parameter.
