Iron and copper complexes with anionic phenolate-bis(pyridyl)amine ligands were synthesized and examined as catalysts for atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) of methyl (meth)acrylate and styrene. With copper complexes, polymers with narrow molecular weight distributions, M w/M n ~1.2, were prepared. The catalytic performance of copper catalysts was affected by nature of halogen species and by the steric and electronic effects. In iron-mediated ATRP procedures, the number-average molecular weights of the polymers increased with monomer conversion, however, the molecular weight distributions of the resulting polymers were relatively broad M w/M n~1.7, due to slow deactivation processes.
Adhesion Properties of Transparent DLC Films on Polymer Substrates

Transparent diamond-like carbon thin films were synthesized by doping of silicon-oxide using pulse-biased inductively coupled plasma chemical vapor deposition. Optical properties, mechanical properties, and adhesion properties of these films on polymer substrates such as polycarbonate were investigated on the effects of the gas composition and plasma pre-treatment. Silicon-oxide incorporated diamond-like carbon films on polycarbonate had favorable properties of higher deposition rate and wider optical band gap, although too much oxygen incorporation (O/C ratio > 0.15) brought about poor adhesion strength.
Semidefinite Programming Dualityon n-D Behaviors

A semidefinite programming(SDP) is recognized as a valuable numerical tool in the optimization theory. In this paper, we consider the SDP dualityon n-dimensional (n-D) system described by high-order partial differential-algebraic equation in the behavioral framework. We derive analternative condition for the non negativity and positivity of a 2n-variable polynomial matrix as a main result. This condition is applied to derive a nalter native condition for checking dissipativity of an n-D behavior.
