오늘날은 교육의 전성시대라고 할 만큼 온통 교육 천지다. 유아부터 노인에 이르기까지, 학교 안과 학교 밖에서까지 교육 없는 곳이 없다. 특히 어린이 교육은 전 세계가 주목할 만큼 차고도 넘친다. 그런데도 청소년 범죄는 끊이지 않고 있으며, 비록 범죄까지는 아니더라도 인성이 부족한 어린이들이 많다. 교육이 부족한 것이 아니라 교육이 잘못된 데에 따른 것이다. 아이러니하게도 오늘날 어린이 교육에서 가장 많이 등장하는 단어 중의 하나가 ‘인성교육’이다. 이제는 우리의 인성교육을 재고할 필요가 있다. 우리 역사에서 인성교육이 가장 폭넓게 이루어진 때는 조선시대이다. 조선시대의 어린이1) 교육은 인성교육 그 자체라고 해도 지나친 말이 아니다. 어린이 교육용 교재들도 많이 전한다. 『동몽선습』·『격몽요결』·『사소절』 「동규」·「계초심학인문」·『아희원람』 등이 대표적이다. 이들 중 『동몽선습』·『격몽요결』·『사소절』 「동규」 등은 대체로 유교윤리 중심의 교육을, 「계초심학인문」·『아희원람』 등은 어린이 존중의 교육을 이야기하고 있다. 그런데 이들 모두가 어린이 교육에 관해서 공통으로 이야기하는 것이 있다. 그것은 어린이 교육의 중요성, 조기교육의 필요성, 인성교육 중심, 생활교육의 중시 등이다. 과거는 현재의 거울이다. 우리는 조선시대의 어린이 교육에 관해서 현재 전하는 문헌을 통해서 알아봄으로써 오늘날 어린이 교육의 문제점과 그 극복 방안을 살펴볼 수 있다. 이제 우리가 해야 하는 일은 과거에서 답을 찾아 현재의 문제점을 극복하는 것이다. 적용과 실천이 필요한 때이다. 어린이 교육을 중요하게 여기고, 인성교육을 외치면서도 정작 인성교육을 제대로 하지 않는 오늘날의 어린이 교육이 더는 계속 이어져서는 안될 것이다. Education is everywhere in recent days to the point that education has its heyday. From infants to seniors, they are faced with several ways of learning all the time in and out of school. In particular, education for children is currently brimming over in Korea, which attracts the global attention. Nevertheless, there has been no signs of abating in juvenile crimes, and even if they are not crimes, incidents caused by ill-behaved adolescents are easily heard and found around us. This is not because of lack of education, but because of wrong guided education. Ironically, one of the most frequently mentioned terms in children education is personality education. Now is the time to reflect where personality education in Korea stands at. In our history, it is during the Chosun Dynasty that personality education is widespread and a predominant notion in education. It is safe to argue that education for children in that era is focused only on personality development. There were a host of instructional textbooks for children. Cases in point are『Dongmongseonseub(동몽선습)』, 『Gyeogmongyogyeol(격몽요결)』, 『Sasojeol(사소절)』, 「Donggyu(동규)」, 「Gyechosimhaginmun(계초심학인문)」, and 『Ahuiwonram (아희원람)』. Among them, 『Dongmongseonseub』, 『Gyeogmongyogyeol』, 『Sasojeol』, and 「Donggyu」 represent Confucian ethics-oriented education, and 「Gyechosimhaginmun」, and 『Ahuiwonram』 lecture on the importance of respect for children. In addition, there are pedagogical philosophies all of these books share; importance of children education, the need for early education, the value in personality education, and the focus on education in life. The past is a mirror to reflect the present. We could examine current drawbacks of children education and how to overcome them by exploring some of the books used for children education in the Chosun Dynasty that we can access. Now, what matters to us is to find proper answers to current problems from the history, and make utmost effort to overcome the current obstacles. Knowledge is important, but all the more important are application and practice. In theory, most of us can argue that we are supposed to place personality education for children a highest priority, while in reality, children education that does not properly focus on personality development is prevalent and unchecked. It is not the time to put a brake on it.
Dendritic Cells and Regulatory T Cells iㅑAtherosclerosis

Although macrophages and other immune system cells, especially T cells, have been shown to play disease-promoting roles in atherosclerosis, less is known about the role of antigen presenting cells. Functional, immune stimulating dendritic cells (DCs) have recently been de-tected in aortic intima, the site of origin of atherosclerosis. We had compared DCs with macrophages in mice with experimental atherosclerosis, to clearly define cell types by developmental and functional criteria. This review summarizes recent ad-vances in studies of DCs in humans and in mouse models of atherosclerosis, as well as providing a simple strategy to measure regulatory T (Treg) cells in the mouse aorta.

Hydrogen can provide pure and clean energy; however, to use it as an energy source, facilities such as hydrogen carriersand recharging stations need to be constructed. Structural steels are affected by hydrogen embrittlement (HE), and theirsusceptibility to this needs to be investigated prior to their use in construction. Most structural steels are normally fabricatedusing thermomechanical controlled processing, which produces a large dislocation density to increase strength. This studyinvestigated the prestrain effect on HE susceptibility of EH 36 steels using thermal desorption spectroscopy (TDS) andin situ slow-strain-rate testing. Hydrogen was electrochemically charged into specimens, and the reversible hydrogen contentand that relating to trap sites were measured using TDS. With an increase in prestrain, there was increase in the diffusiblehydrogen content; furthermore, with hydrogen charging, there was a drastic reduction in total elongation with an increasein prestrain. In addition, there was an increase in HE susceptibility with an increase in prestrain compared to when an aircondition was employed. Specifically, there was an abrupt increase in HE sensitivity at a prestrain value between 10 and15%; strain hardening was more dominant below a prestrain value of 10%; and HE was more dominant above a prestrainvalue of 15% for EH 36 steels.
