Static Performance and Elastic Buckling Analysis of Stiffened Plates with Flat Flanges
Chengzhong Gui,Junqing Lei,Weiwei Lin,Chaoyi Xia,Zhi Duan 한국강구조학회 2021 International Journal of Steel Structures Vol.21 No.5
The present work investigates the static performance and stability of the thin-walled plates with fl at stiff eners under uniform compression. An experiment was fi rst performed to investigate the eff ects of the steel thin-walled box beam-column with intermediate fl at stiff eners on the static performance and stability. The test proved that the external fl ange could enhance the static load-carrying capacity, but the external fl ange’s local buckling predominantly aff ects the members’ buckling performance. The theoretical solution of the stiff ened plates can be focused on improving the buckling performance. The ideal formula for calculating the stiff ened fl ange’s elastic buckling coeffi cient with three simply-supported edges and one stiff ened edge is derived based on the potential energy method. The elastic constraint coeffi cients between the stiff ener and the stiff ened plate are also introduced and fi tted by regression with the 95% confi dence interval’s verifi cation to consider the eff ects of the boundary condition and double-sided arrangement of the stiff eners. The eff ects of the stiff ness ratio between the stiff eners and the stiff ened plates and the geometry parameters of the stiff ened plates and the stiff eners on the buckling coeffi cients have been analyzed. Based on the results, the simplifi ed equations suitable for determining the buckling coeffi cients for the plates with the four simply-supported edges, and the three simply-supported edges, and one free/elastic stiff ened edge, are also suggested. Research shows that the calculating results of the modifi ed equations are in good agreement with that of the fi nite element method, which is also applicable to the stiff ened fl ange without stiff eners.

The effects of the inclination angle on the buckling of continuous composite bridges (CCBs) with parabolic arch ribs remain to be elucidated. Static tests were conducted on an on-site prototype of a CCB with parallel arch ribs to verify the validity of proposed numerical finite element method models of CCBs with inward and outward arch ribs. We found that the expressions for the equivalent slenderness ratios and buckling coefficients should consider the interactions between the in-plane and outof- plane buckling, given the inclination of the arch ribs. With respect to the buckling modes, the arch ribs of all the models buckled in the first lateral mode. In addition, two types of interactions were observed between the buckling modes, namely, that between in-plane and out-of-plane buckling and that between global and local buckling; these were affected by the inclination angle, especially in the case of the CCB with the outward arch ribs.
A Brief Note on Baby Siddhārtha’s First Bath
Chengzhong PU 동국대학교 불교학술원 2021 International Journal of Buddhist Thought & Cultur Vol.31 No.1
Although different Buddhist traditions share a great deal in terms of soteriological doctrine and ethical values, they differ in other numerous respects. Among them, a typical difference is the narration of the same event or story in the Buddha’s life. This paper takes the example of the scene of baby Siddhārtha’s first bath to illustrate the extent to which a single aspect of a shared story of the Buddha’s birth could vary between many Buddhist traditions. By demonstrating how various textual and artistic traditions of Buddhism differ in the source of the water that was used to wash the newly born Siddhārtha and in the people who did the washing, this article attests a generally known concept, that the acceptance of Buddhism and the translation of its scriptures in a new environment is heavily determined by the local culture.
Some Research Notes on Sutra of the Twelve [-year] Travel [of the Buddha](十二遊經)
PU Chengzhong 동국대학교 불교학술원 2019 International Journal of Buddhist Thought & Cultur Vol.29 No.1
There are over a dozen translations of biographies of the Buddha in the Chinese Buddhist canon, the Shi’er you jing being one of them. Scholarly attention to some aspects of this text started over a hundred years ago, but basic issues such as its provenance and the connection between its contents and other early Chinese Buddhist translations need serious critical review. As a preliminary attempt, this paper first combs through all the information regarding this text in the traditional Chinese bibliographies and finds that the text had always been considered by traditional Chinese Buddhist bibliographers to be an authentic translation, although the information presented by Fei Zhangfang’s catalogue is confusing, if not mistaken. By analyzing other Chinese-written works which either quoted from or referred to this text the same conclusion is arrived, which means that various Chinese masters had too taken the text as a genuine translation. The paper next highlights some of the obvious issues surrounding this text and makes some research notes on the main points of the major episodes of the early life of Śākyamuni Buddha. It specially focuses on the Origin Story of the Śākya clan, the Bodhisattva’s descending from heaven, Siddhartha’s wives, early ministry career of the Buddha and the ending part of the text of which a missing part was identified in the Jingü yixiang. Finally the paper selectively identifies a couple of writing issues that might betray its mixed identity as a translated text. The tentative conclusion the paper reached is that this text might have been a hybrid apocrypha, containing something genuinely foreign and organized probably by a Chinese hand. It is hoped that this paper will serve to pave the way for future, more detailed studies, since such problem as how much the Buddha’s early preaching overlapping with the Buddhist texts available in China by the time this text appeared needs more efforts and bigger scale than this short paper could offer.

In this study, in-situ trans-selective polymerization of isoprene was carried out using titanium-based Ziegler- Natta catalysts. The catalysts were prepared by high-energy ball milling. Individually Large-inner-diameter carbon nanotubes (CNTL), and hydroxylated carbon nanotubes (CNTOH), along with magnesium chloride (MgCl2) were used as the carriers for the catalysts. The optimum ball-milling time for preparing the CNT/MgCl2/TiCl4 Ziegler-Natta catalysts was 4 h. The CNTOH/MgCl2/TiCl4 catalyst showed a higher efficiency than that of the CNTL/MgCl2/TiCl4 catalyst, based on the rate of polymerization. The effects of the CNT-filler type on the isoprene polymerization behaviors and polymer properties were investigated. The morphologies of the trans-1,4-polyisoprene (TPI)/CNT and TPI/CNTOH nanocomposites exhibited a tube-like shape, and the CNTL and CNTOH fillers were well dispersed in the TPI matrix. In addition, the thermal stability of TPI significantly increased upon the introduction of a small amount of both CNTL/CNTOH fillers (0.15 wt%), owing to the satisfactory dispersion of the CNTL/CNTOH in the TPI matrix.
Ultrasound-Guided Radiofrequency Ablation in Tertiary Hyperparathyroidism: A Prospective Study
Deng Erya,Jiang Tingting,Chai Huihui,Weng Ning,He Hongfeng,Zhang Zhengxian,Peng Chengzhong,Yue Wenwen,Xu Huixiong 대한영상의학회 2024 Korean Journal of Radiology Vol.25 No.3
Objective: To prospectively evaluate the outcomes of ultrasound (US)-guided radiofrequency ablation (RFA) in tertiary hyperparathyroidism (THPT). Materials and Methods: Patients with THPT underwent RFA between September 2017 and January 2022. Laboratory parameters, including serum intact parathyroid hormone (iPTH) levels, were monitored for 48 months after RFA and compared with the levels at baseline. Complications related to RFA and changes in hyperparathyroidism-related clinical symptoms were recorded before and after RFA. Results: A total of 42 patients with THPT were recruited for this study. Ultimately, 36 patients with renal failure and 2 patients who underwent successful renal transplantation (male:female, 17:21; median age, 54.5 years) were enrolled. The follow-up time was 21.5 ± 19.0 months in the 36 patients with renal failure. In these 36 patients, iPTH levels were significantly decreased to 261.1 pg/mL at 48 months compared with the baseline value of 1284.9 pg/mL (P = 0.012). Persistent hyperparathyroidism, defined as iPTH levels maintained at > 585.0 pg/mL for 6 months after treatment, occurred in 4.0% of patients (1/25). Recurrent hyperparathyroidism, defined as iPTH levels > 585.0 pg/mL after 6 months, were 4.0% (1/25) and 0.0% (0/9) at 6 months and 4 years after treatment, respectively. In two patients with THPT after successful renal transplantation, iPTH decreased from the baseline value of 242.5 and 115.9 pg/mL to 171.0 and 62.0 pg/mL at 6 months after treatment. All complications resolved within 6 months of ablation without medical intervention, except in 10.5% (4/38) patients with permanent hypocalcemia. The overall symptom recovery rate was 58.8% (10/17). The severity scores for bone pain, arthralgia, and itchy skin associated with hyperparathyroidism improved after treatment (P < 0.05). Conclusion: US-guided RFA is an effective and safe alternative to surgery in the treatment of patients with TPTH and improves hyperparathyroidism-related clinical symptoms.
