Effect of the Derivatives of Andrographolide on the Morphology of Bacillus subtilis
Chantana Aromdee,Nongluksna Sriubolmas,Suthep Wiyakrutta,Supawadee Suebsasna,Watcharee Khunkitti 대한약학회 2011 Archives of Pharmacal Research Vol.34 No.1
Andrographis paniculata has been reported to have antiviral, antipyretic and anticancer activities. Andrographolide, an ent-labdane diterpene, is an active constituent in this plant. In this study, andrographolide (1) and its natural derivative 14-deoxy-11,12-didehydroandrographolide (2) and 5 other semisynthetic derivatives were tested for their activity against Grampositive and Gram-negative bacteria and Candida albicans. Only derivatives bearing a 14-acetyl group showed activity, and this activity was only against Gram-positive bacteria. 14-Acetylandrographolide showed the highest potency against Bacillus subtilis; the other 14-acetylandrographolides with additional substitution at the 3- and 19-hydroxyl groups showed lower activity against Gram-positive bacteria. The morphology of B. subtilis after being treated with 14-acetylandrographolide was investigated with TEM. This is the first report on 14-acetylandrographolide’s quantified antibacterial activity, and the crucial functional group of this ent-labdane that plays an important role in perturbing the morphogenesis of B. subtilis leading to cell death.
Color and Hardness of Durian Chips Irradiated by Controlled Low Power Microwave
Chantana Suwanchote,Jariya Weerakul,Chitnarong Sirisathitkul,Mudtorlep Nisoa 한국식품과학회 2012 Food Science and Biotechnology Vol.21 No.6
Durian cv. Monthong was dried by using controlled low power microwave at atmospheric pressure. Although the hardness of durian chips was higher than that obtained from microwave drying in vacuum, it was comparable to the hardness of conventional products. According to Hunter Lab color parameters, durian surfaces became lighter but their yellowness was decreased after the microwave drying. Compared between 16 and 27 W irradiations, the higher power led to the increase in lightness and yellowness. Cross-sectional micrographs revealing the porous structure confirmed that a lower hardness was obtained in the case of 16 W.

This research presents the battery discharge rate models for the energy consumption of mobile phone batteries based on machine learning by taking into account three usage patterns of the phone: the standby state, video playing, and web browsing. We present the experimental design methodology for collecting data, preprocessing, model construction, and parameter selections. The data is collected based on the HTC One X hardware platform. We considered various setting factors, such as Bluetooth, brightness, 3G, GPS, Wi-Fi, and Sync. The battery levels for each possible state vector were measured, and then we constructed the battery prediction model using different regression functions based on the collected data. The accuracy of the constructed models using the multi-layer perceptron (MLP) and the support vector machine (SVM) were compared using varying kernel functions. Various parameters for MLP and SVM were considered. The measurement of prediction efficiency was done by the mean absolute error (MAE) and the root mean squared error (RMSE). The experiments showed that the MLP with linear regression performs well overall, while the SVM with the polynomial kernel function based on the linear regression gives a low MAE and RMSE. As a result, we were able to demonstrate how to apply the derived model to predict the remaining battery charge.
Semantic Image Search: Case Study for Western Region Tourism in Thailand
( Chantana Chantrapornchai ),( Netnapa Bunlaw ),( Chidchanok Choksuchat ) 한국정보처리학회 2018 Journal of information processing systems Vol.14 No.5
Typical search engines may not be the most efficient means of returning images in accordance with user requirements. With the help of semantic web technology, it is possible to search through images more precisely in any required domain, because the images are annotated according to a custom-built ontology. With appropriate annotations, a search can then, return images according to the context. This paper reports on the design of a tourism ontology relevant to touristic images. In particular, the image features and the meaning of the images are described using various properties, along with other types of information relevant to tourist attractions using the OWL language. The methodology used is described, commencing with building an image and tourism corpus, creating the ontology, and developing the search engine. The system was tested through a case study involving the western region of Thailand. The user can search specifying the specific class of image or they can use text-based searches. The results are ranked using weighted scores based on kinds of properties. The precision and recall of the prototype system was measured to show its efficiency. User satisfaction was also evaluated, was also performed and was found to be high.

Tumor necrosis factor ($TNF-{\alpha}$), an inflammatory cytokine that plays an important role in the control of cell proliferation, differentiation, and apoptosis, has previously been used in anti-cancer therapy. However, the therapeutic applications of $TNF-{\alpha}$ are largely limited due to its general toxicity and anti-apoptotic influence. To overcome this problem, the present study focused on the effect of active constituents isolated from a medicinal plant on $TNF-{\alpha}$-induced apoptosis in human colon adenocarcinoma (HT-29) cells. Nimbolide from Azadirachta indica was evaluated for cytotoxicity by methyl tetrazolium 3-[4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl]-2, 5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay and phase contrast microscopy. Effects on apoptotic signaling proteins were investigated using Western blot analysis. Nimbolide showed cytotoxicity against HT-29 cells that was significantly different from the control group (p<0.01), a concentration of $10{\mu}M$ significantly inducing cell death (p<0.01). In combination with $TNF-{\alpha}$, nimbolide significantly enhanced-induced cell death. In apoptotic pathway, nimbolide activated c-Jun N-terminal kinase (JNK) phosphorylation, BH3 interacting-domain death agonist (Bid) and up-regulated the death receptor 5 (DR5) level. In the combination group, nimbolide markedly sensitized $TNF-{\alpha}$-induced JNK, Bid, caspase-3 activation and the up-regulation of DR5. Our findings overall indicate that nimbolide may enhance $TNF-{\alpha}$-mediated cellular proliferation inhibition through increasing cell apoptosis of HT-29 cells by up-reglation of DR5 expression via the JNK pathway.
