        Roles of Na<SUP>⁢</SUP>-Ca<SUP>2⁢</SUP> Exchange in the Negative Force-Frequency Relationship

        <P> Frequency-force relationships (FFR) were studied in electrically field stimulated rat left atria (LA) by reducing the stimulation frequency from resting 3 Hz to test frequencies (0.1-1 Hz) for 5 minutes. The twitch amplitudes of LA elicited the typical negative staircases with 3-phased changes: the initial rapid increase, the second decrease and the following plateau at test frequencies. Verapamil (3⁓10<SUP>⁣5</SUP> M) pretreatment elicited frequency-dependent suppression of the twitch amplitudes, exaggerating the negative staircase. Monensin pretreatment enhanced not the peak but the plateau amplitudes in a concentration-dependent manner. When the Na<SUP>⁢</SUP>-Ca<SUP>2⁢</SUP> exchange was blocked by Na<SUP>⁢</SUP> and Ca<SUP>2⁢</SUP> depletion in the Krebs Hensleit buffer (0 Na<SUP>⁢</SUP>-0 Ca<SUP>2⁢</SUP> KHB), the twitch amplitudes increased in a frequency-dependent manner, changing the negtive staircase into the positve one. Meanwhile, the 0 Na<SUP>⁢</SUP>-0 Ca<SUP>2⁢</SUP> KHB applicationinduced enhancement was strongly suppressed by caffeine (5 mM) pretreatment. Only dibucaine among the local anesthetics increased the basal tone during frequency reduciton. There were no differences in <SUP>45</SUP>Ca uptakes between 0.3 Hz and 3 Hz stimulation except at 1 min when it was significantly low at 0.3 Hz than 3 Hz, illustrating net Ca<SUP>2⁢</SUP> losses. Monensin pretreatment enhanced the rate of this Ca<SUP>2⁢</SUP> loss. Taken together, it is concluded that Na<SUP>⁢</SUP>-Ca<SUP>2⁢</SUP> exchange extrudes more SR released Ca<SUP>2⁢</SUP> out of the cell in proportion to the frequency, resulting in the negative rate staircase in the rat LA.

        As we all know, one of the biggest tourist site in Seoul is, of course, Dongdaemun Market. There is a shopping paradise called Dongdaemun Market, this shopping complex has been changing rapidly in order to attract more customers and try to maintain it's name and value, distinguish it's unique characters from other shopping malls. The change of Dongdaemun Market, the combination of a traditional and a trendy way, can be a nice model for other shopping malls. But it is facing some difficulties in spite of its recent outstanding progress. One of them is to reorganize Dongdaemun Market area. However, like every other shopping mall, Dongdaemun Market also has a few problems which should be tackled first so as to grow up further. This research, we would like to focus on the emergency planning of Dongdaemun Market and give some possible advice for potential complex shopping malls in the future.

        시험관 및 동물실험 모델에서 유리규산에 의한 아포프토시스

        Silica exposure results in acute inflammatory response followed by chronic fibrotic change. The mechanism for the maintenance of silica-induced inflammation has not been understood yet. Apoptosis is a morphologically distinct form of programed cell death that plays major role during homeostasis and in many diseases including cancer, acquired immune deficiency syndrome and neurodegenerative disorders. Apoptosis is characterized by cell shrinkage, membrane blebbing and nuclear condensation. To demonstrate the involvement of apoptosis in underlying mechanism for the development of silica-induced pathological changes, this study was designed in vitro and in vivo models. In in vitro study, alveolar epithelial cell line (A549) was stimulated with silica and performed flow cytometry and DNA electrophoresis. In in vivo study, bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL)was done to count the total and apoptotic cells from silica-instilled rats. The results were as follows: 1. Apoptotic cell fraction of silica-treated groups (10 and 50 ㎍/㎠) was significantly higher than that of control group. 2. Genomic DNA from silica-treated groups (10 and 50㎍/㎠) showed DNA ladder in agarose gel electrophoresis, while group of 1 ㎍/㎠ didn't. 3. Total cell number and apoptotic cell number of BAL fluid from silica-instilled rats (10, 20 and 40mg/kg) were significantly higher than those of control. 4. Silica induced apoptosis of cells in BAL fluid was confirmed by microscopic observation with nuclear fragmentation. These results suggest that apoptosis may contribute to development of silica-induced pathological changes.

      • 흰쥐에서 측뇌실내 Bradykinin의 승압효과

        Central hemodynamic actions of bradykinin were studied in anesthetized rats in order to investigate its mode of action in the central nervous system. Bradykinin(0.5~10 nmoℓ) was administered into the right lateral ventricle, while blood pressure and heart rate were monitored continuously. Effects of various drugs including phentolamine(2 ㎎/㎏), hexamethonium(2.5 ㎎/㎏/min), reserpine (2 ㎎/㎏/day), indomethacin(10 ㎎/㎏) and sara1asin(20 ㎍/㎏/min) on the hemodynamic effects of bradykinin were also examined. The results obtained were as follows: 1. Administration of bradykinin into the lateral ventricle, elicited an increase in mean arterial pressure without significant changes in heart rate. 2. Bradykinin, doses ranging from 0.5 to 10 nmoℓ, produced a dose-dependent increase in mean arterial pressure. The maximum increase in blood pressure was noted at 5 nmoℓ, 3. Central pressor responses to bradykinin were attenuated by pretreatment with phentolamine or hexamethonium. Reserpine, indomethacin and saralasin did not affect the pressor response to bradykinin. 4. These results suggest that the central pressor effect of bradykinin is, at least in part, due to excitation of the autonomic nervous activity. Mechanisms other than the enhanced sympathetic nervous activity cannot be ruled out completely in the central action of bradykinin.

      • 학동기 이후의 성장 주기별 신장 및 체중 증가율에 관한 연구

        This study was carried out to know the growth rate of height and weight in Korean children which was conducted on semi-longitudinal research method. For this study, health records of the sample group that carry information for the period from their first grade of elementary school to the third grade of high school were used, 120 males and 120 females who became third grade of high school in 1994 were selected at random from each of the four cities; Seoul, Chonan, Kumi and Eumsung. Among 917 candidates, 460 males and 457 females born between March 1976 and December 1976 were finally selected as a sample for the purpose of this research. The results are as follows; 1. Measurement of the physique Both male and female samples showed constant growth in height and weight. Male grew from the range of 115.8±4.8㎝ at the age of 6 to 171.5±5.6㎝ at 17 while females grew from the range of 114.6±4.7㎝ to 158.9±5.1㎝. The Weight of males rose from the range of 19.9±2.5Kg at the age of 6 to 62.5 ±8.1Kg at 17 while that of females increased from the range of 19.3±2.4Kg to 54.1±6.9Kg. 2. Growth and Nutritional Indices The study revealed that relative weight of the sample group increased as they grew older. The Kaup index also showed an increase in line with the advancement in their ages, and exceeded 2.0 at the age of 15 for males and at the age of 14 for females. The Rohrer index, on the other hand, showed a declining trend for the first several years but began to increase at the age of 13 for males and at the age of 11 for females. 3. Comparative analysis with similar regardless that were performed using sample groups born in 1965 and 1970 revealed the followings; ① Height - The average height of male samples(born in 1976) under this survey was bigger than that of male samples born in 1965 in their respective age from 6 to 17. - The average height of male samples born in 1970 was bigger than that of male samples born in 1970 from 6 to 14 but showed no difference after 15. - Female samples born in 1976 showed height that was bigger than the other sample groups born in 1965 and 1970 in their respective age from 6 to 17. ② Weight Both male and female samples under this survey weighed more than their counterpart sample groups born in 1965 and 1970 in their respective age. 4. The Maximum Growth Age was 12.3 for males and 10.4 for females. Males grew 5.92±2.77㎝ a year on an average when they were 12 and 13 years old while females grew 5.93±2.69㎝ when they were 11 and 12 years old. In conclusion, the study revealed that like in other countries males and females experienced the second growth spurt during their adolescence and relatively slow growth thereafter. Unlike height which showed constant growth, weight varied; there were incidences where females even experienced weight loss after years of diminishing growth rate in the wake of the adolescence.

      • 철도건축물의 피난계획에 관한 연구

        Railway buildings focus on publicity and functionality. As railway stations function as a center of transportation of its community. its importance is further emphasized. This study aims to plan escape routes of railway stations to promote safety and convenience of passengers who use trains for transportation or freights. In respect to designs of railway buildings, this study first speculates platforms which are used by passengers the most frequently, escape routes at waiting rooms and escape route systems according to different types of railway buildings and situations. So, it is to provide basic data to decide requirements in escape route design of railway buildings.

      • 예방접종과 육아수첩에 대한 부모들의 인지도

        A study was performed to get some information about the parents' attitudes regarding immunization and immunization record. Five hundred and ninety nine parents who visited to well baby clinics in 4 affiliated hospitals of Soonchunhyang University were randomly selected and requested to fill up the questionnaire. The results were as follows ; 1. A majority of respondants(83.5%) to questionnaires brought the immunization record with their children when immunization. 2. The number of parents who know the primary immunization schedule correctly were 304(50.8%) and majority of the parents misunderstood chicken pox vaccination as primary immunization. 3. About the half of the respondants(49.5%) received immunization by pediatritian. Percentages of the parents who received immunization at regional health care center were 24.1% in Seoul and 42.8% in other cities. 4. Only below half of the respondants(45.7%) thought to be satisfied to physician's information about the side effects of vaccination and 26.9% of the respondants never get the information about any side effects. 5. Many of the respondants(80.6%) thought that there was no or few advantage to immunization by pediatritian. 6. Most of the cases(84.1%) record the immunization status and which were done by nurse(51.4%), physician(27.1%) and parents themselves(21.5%) 7. Only the 21.5% of the respondants received the record of growth and development milestones of their children and 37.7% of the respondants experienced nutritional counseling when vaccination. 8. The reasons of importance of immunization records are for general evaluation of child health since at birth(58.6%) and for not to skip routine vaccination(40.1%).

        진폐진행정도에 따른 혈청내 구리와 아연 농도의 변동

        목 적 : 진폐증은 분진으로 인해 인체의 면역기전이 작용하여 폐섬유화가 진행되는 질환으로, 인체의 면역기전에 작용하는 구리와 아연은 진폐증의 병리적인 진행과정인 폐섬유화에 관여한다. 본 연구의 목적은 초기진폐증 유소견자와 진행된 진폐증 환자의 혈청 구리와 아연의 농도를 정상인과 비교함으로써 체내 구리와 아연의 농도가 진폐증의 섬유화의 진행정도에 따라 변동함을 밝히고, 이를 이용하여 폐섬유화의 진행정도를 추정할 수 있는 지표를 제시하고자 한다. 방 법 : 진폐정밀기관에 내원한 초진내 원자 100명과 진폐요양기관에 입원한 진폐증 환자 100명을 선정한 후 흥부사진소견을 ILO 분류법의 진폐진행정도에 따라 각각 세 군(Stage Vl, V2, V3 & Stage Pl, P2, P3)으로 구분한 후 각 군의 혈청구리와 아연의 농도를 비교분석하였다. 대조군으로는 폐결핵, 심근경색, 뇌경색을 경험한 적이 없는 일반인 100명을 선정하였다. 결 과 : 초진내 원자군의 혈청 구리농도는 섬유화의 진행단계에 따른 유의한 차이를 보였으며, Stage V3에서 가장 높았다. 입원환자군에서는 혈청 구리농도가 대조군과 유의한 차이를 보이지 않는데 (p=0, 152), 이는 입원환자의 불량한 영양상태와 건강상태 때문인 것으로 추정된다. 초진내원자군과 입원환자군의 혈청 아연농도는 섬유화의 진행에 따라 통계적인 차이를 보였으며, Stage V2와 Stage P2, P3에서 각각 대조군에 비해 유의하게 낮았다. 혈청 아연과 구리농도의 비또한 양군에서 섬유화의 진행에 따라 의미있게 높았는데, 섬유화가 현저히 진행된 단계 (Stage V3, Stage P2, P3)에서 대조군과 의미있는 차이를 보였다. 결 론 : 초진내 원자와 입원환자의 혈청 Cu/zrl 비는 섬유화의 진행정도가 현저할수록 대조군에 비해 유의하게 높게 나타났다. 진폐증 환자들의 혈청 Cu/zn 비는 진폐증의 폐섬유화의 진행정도를 추정함에 있어 상당히 유용한 지표로 이용될 수 있으며, 폐섬유화의 진행과정에서의 혈청 구리와 아연의 작용기전을 이용한 치료방법의 마련에도 도움이 될 것으로 판단한다. Objectives : Copper and Zinc, the trace elements of a living body, take a part in immunologic mechanism and induce the pulmonary fibrosis which is the pathologic progress of pneumoconiosis. This study was performed to assist the identification of the pathologic process of pulmonary fibrosis in pneumoconiosis. Methods : The subjects of thls study was 200 diagnosed persons as pneumoconiosis, of whom 700 persons was the visitors in the outpatients departments of pneumoconiosis and 100 admissive pneumoconiosis patients. The serum copper and zinc are measured and compared. Results : The mean serum copper concentration of visitor group was significantly higher than that of control group, and that of stage V3 subgroup of visitor group was highest because of their advanced fibrosis. But, there was not the difference of serum copper concentration between patient and control group. We thought that the reason was poor nutritional and health status of the patient. The mean of serum zinc concentration of visitor and patient control was lower than that of control group. As the degree of pulmonary fibrosis was more severe from stage Vl, V2, V3 of visitor to stage Pl, P2, P3 of patient, the mean of serum zinc concentration was lower. The ratio of serum copper/zinc of visitor and patient was higher than that of control, and that of patient was higher than that of visitor. Those results showed that the ratio of serum copper/zlnc ratio more greatly expressed the degree of progression of pneumoconiosis than only copper or zinc concentration by adjustment of nutritional and health status of the patient. Conclusions : As above study results, the degree of pulmonary fibrosis of pneumoconiosis could be estimated by means of serum copper/zinc ratio.
