      • Poster Session:PS 0503 ; Nephrology : Reasons of Emergency Department Admission of ESRD Patients : A Retrospective Analysis

        ( Attila Aydin ),( Cemile Aydin ),( Selma Karaahmetogluozkan ),( Zeynep Guven ),( Rukiye Kara ) 대한내과학회 2014 대한내과학회 추계학술대회 Vol.2014 No.1

Background: End stage renal failure is an increasing clinical problem. That is why we should prevent it and capture patients in earlier stages in order to stop their progression. We should determine the causes of hospitalization and acute complications. Methods: The patients who were hospitalized for End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) between March 2009-2011 patients were studied. We studied the causes of hospitalization in concern with established parameters. The datas were analyzed in SPSS program. Results: The total number of patients were 98 including 50 men and 48 women. The ages of patients were between 27-93. Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) duration was 2-240 months, the dialysis duration was 0.5-240 months. The most common cause of emergency department admission was infection 39 (%39.8). The Patients admitted with an infection were taken dialysis treatment longer than other patients (p=0.034) and they had a higher initial hemoglobin level (p=0.002) and were hospitalized longer than the other patients (p=0.047). The most common type of infection was pneumonia (%43.6). The most common cause of mortality was sepsis with %40 and pneumonia with %20. There was no statistically difference in terms of albumin level between patients with infection and the others. Although in the exitus group albumin was statically lower than the survivors (p<0.05). Conclusions: The most common cause of ESRD was infection. The most common cause of mortality was also infection; sepsis and pneumonia. We determined that a low albumin level was a bad prognostic factor.

      • Diagnostic and Prognostic Importance of the Neutrophil Lymphocyte Ratio in Breast Cancer

Ozyalvacli, Gulzade,Yesil, Cemile,Kargi, Ertugrul,Kizildag, Betul,Kilitci, Asuman,Yilmaz, Fahri Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2014 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.15 No.23

Background: The aim of this study was to determine diagnostic and prognostic roles of the neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio (NLR) in breast cancer patients. To date, data are limited on associations of primary breast carcinoma (PBC) and benign proliferative breast disease (BPBD) with preoperative NLR values. Materials and Methods: Our study covered of 120 female patients with PBC and 50 with BPBD. Diagnostic values of NLR were estimated using sensitivity, specificity and areas under receiver operating characteristic curves (AUC). Results: NLR values were significantly higher in the PBC patients than in those with BPBD, with an AUC of 0.668 in the PBC case. The optimal cut-off for NLR was 2.96 and this was validated in the testing set, giving a sensitivity and a specificity of 79.7% and 76.2%, respectively, in PBC patients. Conclusions: Preoperative high NLR is a significant diagnostic predictor of distinction of breast cancer from BPBD and elevated NLR is also an important prognostic marker for primary invasive breast cancer.

Design, Synthesis and Characterization of a pH-Sensitive DS/GM Hydrogel

        Zeynep Özenir,Celile Demirbilek,Cemile Özdemir Dinç 한국고분자학회 2015 Macromolecular Research Vol.23 No.11

Dextran sulfate/glycidyl methacrylate (DS/GM) hydrogels were synthesized by intermolecular side-chain reaction of DS hydroxyl groups with monomeric crosslinking agent, GM in aqueous solutions at 75 oC in the basic medium in this study. The optimum conditions of effective crosslinking for DS/GM system were determined with changing amounts of crosslinker and initiator (benzoyl peroxide, BPO). The swelling abilities of the hydrogels were explained with determining of certain structural parameters for the hydrogel such as equilibrium water content, percentages of gellation, and swelling ratio. pH dependent swelling behaviors of hydrogels were investigated and swelling ability at basic medium was higher than that at acidic medium. Surface morphologies of DS and its hydrogels were examined by scanning electron microscope (SEM) and they compared. Structures and thermal stabilities of DS/ GM hydrogels were characterized by infrared (FTIR), thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA), differential thermal analysis (DTA), and Differential Scanning Calorimeter (DSC); effect of GM on crosslinking was investigated. The viscosities of DS/GM reaction products were recorded continuously as a function of time with rotary viscometer and gellation points of binary system reaction between DS and GM were determined via observed viscosity numbers, changes during reaction.

Forecasting container throughput of major Asian ports using the Prophet and hybrid time series models

Munim Ziaul Haque,Fiskin Cemile Solak,Nepal Bikram,Chowdhury Mohammed Mojahid Hossain 한국해운물류학회 2023 The Asian journal of shipping and Logistics Vol.39 No.2

Forecasting container throughput is critical for improved port planning, operations, and investment strategies. Reliability of forecasting methods need to be ensured before utilizing their outcomes in decision making. This study compares forecasting performances of various time series methods, namely autoregressive integrated moving average (ARIMA), seasonal ARIMA (SARIMA), Holt-Winter's Exponential Smoothing (HWES), and the Prophet model. Since forecast combinations can improve performance, simple and weighted combinations of ARIMA, SARIMA and HWES have been explored, too. Monthly container throughput data of port of Shanghai, Busan, and Nagoya are used. The Prophet model outperforms others in the in-sample forecasting, while combined models outperform others in the out-sample forecasting. Due to the observed differences between the in-sample and out-sample forecast accuracy measures, this study proposes a forecast performance metric consistency check approach for informed real-world applications of forecasting models in port management decision-making.

In the world and in our country, the most common death cause after cardiovascular diseases in the order of diseases that result in death is cancer. This descriptive, cross-sectional study is done in order to determine the relationship between fatigue and social support levels of cancer patients. Methods: Research was carried out in Cukurova University Hospital in Adana, which is located in the south of Turkey, between December 2014 and December 2015. Data were collected by interview form prepared by the researcher, Piper Fatigue Scale and Social Support Patient Form. Data was analyzed by percentile, mean, independent t test, one-way analysis of variance, correlation and multiple regression. Results: The average score of Social Support Patient Form is 131.1 ± 15.5, and Piper Fatigue Scale total score mean of the participants is 5.8 ± 2.4. A low level of negative correlation was found between the social support to cancer patients scale emotional support subdimension and the Piper Fatigue Scale affective subdimension. Conclusions: As a result of the research, it was seen that the level of fatigue of the participants had moderate and level of perceived social support was positive. The age, marital status, and education status of the participants do not affect the fatigue and social support levels.

Intravascular Placement of Metallic Coils as Lung Tumor Markers for CyberKnife Stereotactic Radiation Therapy

        Kutlay Karaman,A. Murat Dokdok,Oktay Karadeniz,Cemile Ceylan,Kayıhan Engin 대한영상의학회 2015 Korean Journal of Radiology Vol.16 No.3

To present our experience with placing endovascular coils in pulmonary arteries used as a fiducial marker for CyberKnife therapy and to describe the technical details and complications of the procedure. Between June 2005 and September 2013, 163 patients with primary or secondary lung malignancies, referred for fiducial placement for stereotactic radiosurgery, were retrospectively reviewed. Fourteen patients (9 men, 5 women; mean age, 70 years) with a history of pneumonectomy (n = 3), lobectomy (n = 3) or with severe cardiopulmonary co-morbidity (n = 8) underwent coil (fiducial marker) placement. Pushable or detachable platinum micro coils (n = 49) 2–3 mm in size were inserted through coaxial microcatheters into a small distal pulmonary artery in the vicinity of the tumor under biplane angiography/fluoroscopy guidance. Forty nine coils with a median number of 3 coils per tumor were placed with a mean tumor-coil distance of 2.7 cm. Forty three (87.7%) of 49 coils were successfully used as fiducial markers. Two coils could not be used due to a larger tumor-coil distance (> 50 mm). Four coils were in an acceptable position but their non-coiling shape precluded tumor tracking for CyberKnife treatment. No major complications needing further medication other than nominal therapy, hospitalization more than one night or permanent adverse sequale were observed. Endovascular placement of coil as a fiducial marker is safe and feasible during CyberKnife therapy, and might be an option for the patients in which percutaneous transthoracic fiducial placement might be risky.

Usage of complementary and alternative medicine in women with urinary incontinence at a hospital in Turkey

İlknur Gökşin,Güler Duru Aşiret,Cemile Kütmeç Yılmaz 한국한의학연구원 2020 Integrative Medicine Research Vol.9 No.2

Background: Urinary incontinence (UI) is a health problem that is common in women of all ages. Besides pharmacological and surgical treatments, there are lifestyle changes and complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) to relieve UI symptoms. This study aimed to examine lifestyle arrangements and CAM use by women with UI. Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional study using data from 352 women with UI. The study sample consisted of female patients that were aged 18 and above. We asked patients whether they experienced urine leakage, and included all patients with UI in the sample regardless of UI type or severity. We collected the study data by using the personal information form and Incontinence Severity Index (ISI). Results: In this study, 7.1% of women with UI used CAM while 92.9% did not. We found that only the women with mixed incontinence used CAM more (p < 0.05). The CAM techniques commonly preferred by women included prayer (48.0%), hot application (36.0%) and herbal teas (24%). While 52.2% of women stated that they benefited from CAM use, all of them (100%) stated that they experienced no side effects of CAM. The most common lifestyle changes was losing weight. Conclusion: Turkish women with UI had a low rate of CAM use in this study. The use of CAM was related to age and education, and women with mixed UI used CAM more.

Health-Promoting Behaviors, Health Literacy, and Levels of Knowledge about Smoking-Related Diseases among Smokers and Non-smokers: A Cross-Sectional Study

        ( Cihat Celebi ),( Ebru Calik-kutukcu ),( Melda Saglam ),( Cemile Bozdemir-ozel ),( Deniz Inal-ince ),( Naciye Vardar-yagli ) 대한결핵 및 호흡기학회 2021 Tuberculosis and Respiratory Diseases Vol.84 No.2

Background: For generations, cigarette smoking has presented an important public health concern. This study aimed to compare the health-promoting behavior, exercise capacity, physical activity level, health literacy, and knowledge level of smoking-related diseases between smokers and non-smokers. Methods: The study included 71 smokers (mean age, 32.69±8.55 years) and 72 non-smokers (mean age, 31.88±9.94 years) between the ages of 20 and 60 years. Assessments included a 6-minute walking test (6MWT), Godin Leisure-Time Physical Activity Questionnaire, Health-Promoting Lifestyle Profile II (HPLP-II), Cardiovascular Risk Factors Knowledge Level Scale (CARRF-KL), Asthma/COPD Awareness Questionnaire, the World Health Organization Quality of Life-Bref questionnaire (WHOQoL-Bref [TR]), and Health Literacy Questionnaire (HLQ). Results: The results from the study show that the number of coronary artery disease risk factors measured significantly higher among the smoker group members when compared to that of the non-smoker group members (p=0.001). Smokers had significantly lower %6MWT distance than non-smokers (84.83±4.72 and 93.45±7.16, respectively; p< 0.05). However, there were no significant differences between the smokers and non-smokers in terms of physical activity, CARRF-KL, HLQ, WHOQoL-Bref, and HPLP-II subscales or total scores (p >0.05). Additionally, while only forty-one smokers (57.7%) were active, 48 of the non-smoker group was active (66.7%). Conclusion: Smokers suffer greater negative effects to their exercise capacity in comparison to non-smokers. Although smokers and non-smokers have similar levels of health literacy and similar levels of knowledge about cardiovascular disease risk factors and obstructive lung diseases, health professionals could continue to further increase individuals’ awareness of smoking-related risk factors and continue to emphasize the importance of physical activity and exercise for protecting cardiopulmonary health.
