        가브리엘라 미스트랄이 시적으로 개작한 네 가지 고전 동화

        안드레아 카살스 힐(Andrea Casals Hill)은 칠레 작가가 시적으로 개작한 이야기, 『백설공주』(Blanca Nieve), 『빨간 모자』(Caperucita Roja), 『신데렐라』(Cenininca), 『잠자는 숲속의 미녀』(La Bella Durmiente)를 소개하고 분석한다. 이 책들은 최근 그림책으로 재출간되어 호평을 받고 있다. 가브리엘라 미스트랄(Gabriela Mistral)은 라틴 아메리카의 작가로는 처음으로 노벨 문학상을 받았다. 카살스 힐에 따르면, 미스트랄이 시적으로 개작한 『백설공주』, 『빨간 모자』, 『신데렐라』, 『잠자는 숲속의 미녀』는 보이지 않고, 버려지고, 학대 받는 젊은 여성 청자의 자율권(empowerment)을 가능하게 하려는 미스트랄의 윤리적인 헌신을 반영한다. Gabriela Mistral was the first Latin American author to receive a Nobel Prize in Literature. Casals Hill asserts that her poetic retellings of Caperucita Roja, Blanca Nieve, Cenicienta, and La Bella Durmiente reflect Mistral’s ethical commitment to enable the empowerment of her invisible, abandoned, and abused young female audience.

        Cortisol Measurements in Cushing's Syndrome: Immunoassay or Mass Spectrometry?

        Determination of cortisol levels in the urine (24 hours urine free cortisol), saliva (late-night), or serum (total cortisol after dexamethasone suppression) is recommended to screen for Cushing’s syndrome (CS). This review focuses on the differences between the frequently used cortisol-antibody immunoassay-based methods and the highly specific mass-spectrometry-based methods that are progressively being employed in clinical laboratories for CS screening. The particular characteristics of cortisol metabolism and the lack of specificity of the immunoassays cause marked differences between both methods that are in turn highly dependent on the biological matrix, in which the cortisol is measured. Understanding the origin of these differences is essential for the interpretation of these results. Although cross-reactivity with endogenous steroids leads to grossly inaccurate results of immunoassay measurements of cortisol in the saliva and urine, preliminary evidence suggests that the clinical sensitivity of CS screening using immunoassays may be similar to CS screening using mass spectrometry. However, mass spectrometry offers more accurate results and considerably reduced variation across laboratories, while avoiding false-positive results. Moreover, mass spectrometry can overcome some common diagnostic challenges, such as identification of exogenous corticosteroids or simultaneous assessment of appropriate dexamethasone levels in suppression tests. Further, comprehensive mass spectrometry-based profiling of several steroid metabolites may be useful for discriminating among different subtypes of CS. Finally, this review discusses the main preanalytical factors that could cause variations in cortisol measurements and their influence on the reliability of the results.

        Impact of grafting on sensory profile of tomato landraces in conventional and organic management systems

        Tomato landrace producers are adopting grafting technology to overcome agronomic deficiencies and increase plant yields. Landraces are valued for their higher organoleptic quality, so it is important to assess the impact of grafting on their sensory profile. We studied the influence of ‘Beaufort’ rootstock on agronomic, morphologic, and sensory traits using two landraces (‘Mando’ and ‘Montgri’) and one commercial cultivar (‘Egara’) as scions in two extreme management systems for tomato cultivation: conventional/greenhouse and organic/open field. Panel sensory analysis found that grafting onto ‘Beaufort’ had a negative effect on sensory attributes, reducing sweetness, acidity, and intensity of flavor in the organic system and sweetness and intensity of flavor in the conventional system. In conventional management, grafting also modified some aspects of fruit appearance. In the conventional system, grafting significantly increased yield in all the genotypes (mean increase, 52%). By contrast, in the organic system, grafting increased yield only in the ‘Mando’ landrace (mean increase, 62.3%). As many genotype × grafting interactions affecting many important commercial traits occurred in both management systems, specific studies with different rootstock-scion combinations are highly recommended before adopting this technique for producing landraces with high sensory quality.

        New method for lubricating wind turbine pitch gears using embedded micro-nozzles

        The increase of power generated by wind turbines has increased the stresses applied in all of its components, thereby causing premature failures. Particularly, pitch and yaw gears suffer from excessive wear mainly caused by inappropriate lubrication. This paper presents a novel method to automatically lubricate the wind turbine pitch gear during operation. A micro-nozzle to inject fresh grease continuously between the teeth in contact was designed, manufactured, and installed in a test bench of a 2 MW wind turbine pitch system. The test bench was used to characterize the fatigue behavior of the gear surface using conventional wind turbine greases under real cyclic loads. Measurements of wear evolution in a pitch gear with and without micro-nozzle show a decrease of 70 % of the wear coefficient after 2×10 4 cycles.

        Exploring data processing strategies in NGS target enrichment to disentangle radiations in the tribe Cardueae (Compositae)

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Target enrichment is a cost-effective sequencing technique that holds promise for elucidating evolutionary relationships in fast-evolving lineages. However, potential biases and impact of bioinformatic sequence treatments in phylogenetic inference have not been thoroughly explored yet. Here, we investigate this issue with an ultimate goal to shed light into a highly diversified group of Compositae (Asteraceae) constituted by four main genera: <I>Arctium</I>, <I>Cousinia</I>, <I>Saussurea</I>, and <I>Jurinea</I>. Specifically, we compared sequence data extraction methods implemented in two easy-to-use workflows, PHYLUCE and HybPiper, and assessed the impact of two filtering practices intended to reduce phylogenetic noise. In addition, we compared two phylogenetic inference methods: (1) the concatenation approach, in which all loci were concatenated in a supermatrix; and (2) the coalescence approach, in which gene trees were produced independently and then used to construct a species tree under coalescence assumptions. Here we confirm the usefulness of the set of 1061 COS targets (a nuclear conserved orthology loci set developed for the Compositae) across a variety of taxonomic levels. Intergeneric relationships were completely resolved: there are two sister groups, <I>Arctium</I>-<I>Cousinia</I> and <I>Saussurea</I>-<I>Jurinea</I>, which are in agreement with a morphological hypothesis. Intrageneric relationships among species of <I>Arctium</I>, <I>Cousinia</I>, and <I>Saussurea</I> are also well defined. Conversely, conflicting species relationships remain for <I>Jurinea</I>. Methodological choices significantly affected phylogenies in terms of topology, branch length, and support. Across all analyses, the phylogeny obtained using HybPiper and the strictest scheme of removing fast-evolving sites was estimated as the optimal. Regarding methodological choices, we conclude that: (1) trees obtained under the coalescence approach are topologically more congruent between them than those inferred using the concatenation approach; (2) refining treatments only improved support values under the concatenation approach; and (3) branch support values are maximized when fast-evolving sites are removed in the concatenation approach, and when a higher number of loci is analyzed in the coalescence approach.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Target enrichment resolved relationships among the four genera of the Cardueae. </LI> <LI> Bioinformatic choices can largely affect the phylogenetic reconstructions. </LI> <LI> Filtering strategies improve support values only under concatenation analyses. </LI> <LI> The coalescence approach yields higher topological robustness than concatenation. </LI> </UL> </P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>

      • THE RELEVANCE OF CREATIVITY AND EMOTIONS IN ENGAGING USERS ON INSTAGRAM

        Consumers are increasingly using social networking sites to get information about their interests. Among them, Instagram has recently reached 800 million active users (Instagram, 2017) and has a higher rate of engagement compared to Facebook or Twitter (Locowise, 2017). Despite its growing relevance, the academic research related to Instagram is still scarce. To go a step further in this topic, this research aims to examine the role played by creativity and positive emotions in driving users’ behaviour on Instagram. On the basis of the Stimulus-Organism-Response (S-O-R) framework (Donovan and Rossiter, 1982; Mehrabian and Rusell, 1974), we propose that perceived creativity (stimulus) applied to the uploaded photos or videos on Instagram results in developing positive emotions (organism) [H1]. In the same way, the use of creative posts can also affect human responses on that account, as affective commitment [H2] and interaction intention [H3]. Additionally, as a consequence of processing the information posted on Instagram account, positive feelings may arouse, resulting in greater affective commitment [H4] and interaction intention [H5]. Finally, users who experience an affective commitment with an account may tend to be more involved by interacting in the account [H6]. Data to test these hypotheses was collected from an Instagram account focused on fashion due to the relevant role that creativity has in this industry and the increasing use of this social networking site among fashion companies (Casaló et al., 2017). We obtained a sample of 808 participants which answered a questionnaire including several multiple-items measurements scales adapted from previous literature. We used a seven-point Likert-type as the response format, from 1 (“strongly disagree”) to 7 (“strongly agree”). Data analyses were carried out using SmartPLS 2.0 (Ringle et al., 2005). First, we analysed data to check validity of measures so as to confirm the factor structure, ensuring internal consistency and both convergent and discriminant validity. Results of the proposed model revealed the positive influence of perceived creativity on positive emotions (H1: β=.24, p<.01), affective commitment (H2: β=.40, p<.01) and interaction intentions (H3: β=.60, p<.01). In addition, positive emotions affect both affective commitment (H4: β=.15, p<.01) and interaction intentions (H5: β=.18, p<.01). Finally, affective commitment is also positively related to interaction intentions (H6: β=.25, p<.01). This study confirms the key role that both perceived creativity and positive emotions have on users’ responses in the Instagram context. These findings have interesting implications for management of Instagram accounts suggesting the development of creative content as well as generating positive emotions to engage followers to a greater extent in the account.

      • ANTECEDENTS AND CONSEQUENCES OF FASHION OPINION LEADERSHIP IN INSTAGRAM

        In the fashion industry, online opinion leaders (e.g. fashion blogs) that may be a source of advice for other consumers have emerged since the beginning of the century. Nowadays, among the several social networking sites (SNS) available, Instagram is also experiencing a steady increase in the amount of active users related to the fashion industry. Taking into account the relevant role of social influencers in the fashion industry (Wiedman et al., 2010) and the increasing use of Instagram by influencers and their followers, this study is thus designed to identify some of the antecedents and consequences of opinion leadership in a fashion Instagram account. First, we consider the perceived characteristics of the account (originality [H1a], uniqueness [H1b], quality [H1c] and quantity [H1d] of the contents posted) as the main antecedent factors of opinion leadership. Second, since opinion leaders are thought to have a great understanding of a specific product category (Thakur et al., 2007), we propose that opinion leadership may influence consumer behavioral intentions (Park, 2013). Specifically, opinion leadership will influence the intention to interact with the Instagram account (H2a), the intention to recommend it (H2b) and the intention to follow the advices obtained there (H2c). Finally, online interaction propensity will reinforce the influence of opinion leadership on interaction (H3a) and recommendation intentions (H3b), and the influence of opinion leadership on the intention to follow the advice will be reinforced when the contents of the account match the consumer personality and interests (i.e. personal fit) (H3c). Data to test these hypotheses was collected from an Instagram account focused on fashion in which a potential influencer posts pictures related to new trends in the fashion industry and that could be imitated by the followers of the account. Specifically, this account has more than 62.000 followers, who were invited to participate in the research. Finally, 808 participants answered a questionnaire including measurement scales adapted from previous literature, using seven-point Likert-type response formats, which respondents rated from 1 (“strongly disagree”) to 7 (“strongly agree”). Partial Least Square was used as the estimation procedure. First, we analysed data to check validity of measures in order to confirm the factor structure, guarantee its internal consistency, and check both convergent and discriminant validity. After that, results of the proposed model reveal that opinion leadership is positively affected by perceived originality (β=.380, p<.01) and uniqueness (β=.298, p<.01), supporting H1a and H1b. However the influence of both perceived quality and quantity is non-significant. In turn, opinion leadership has a significant influence on the intention to continue interacting in the account (β=.558, p<.01), the intention to recommend the account online (β=.482, p<.01), and the consumer intention to follow the advice received in the Instagram account (β=.232, p<.01). As a result H2a, H2b and H2c are supported. Finally, while the interaction effects of online interaction propensity and opinion leadership are not significant, the interaction effect of perceived fit with personal interests and opinion leadership on the consumer intention to follow the advice received in the Instagram account (β=.078, p<.01) is significant. Therefore, H3c is supported. In sum, this study confirms that opinion leadership in the Instagram context may influence consumers and finds that originality and uniqueness are the key variables to develop this leadership and become influential, which suggests several implications for management.

        Quantitative Assessment of Infrared Analysis of Concrete Admixtures

        This study investigates quantitative methods for assessment of infrared analysis of concrete admixtures using correlation coefficients by performing IR scans following the ASTM C494/C494M-11 specifications. In order to achieve this goal, numerous IR scans were performed on specimens supplied by the manufacturer from different batches to ensure uniformity and equivalency. These scans were then analyzed to create correlation coefficients for each admixture. The correlation coefficients were used to quantitatively evaluate and interpret IR Scans of job samples. The study focused on 23 most commonly used concrete admixtures by the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT). They include air-entrainers, accelerators, retarders, water reducers, and other combinations of these admixtures. Their correlation coefficients were established by analyzing a total of 12 scans of each admixture from three different batches supplied by the manufacturer at different time intervals. In order to validate the obtained correlation coefficients and establish a target correlation, job samples were tested and compared to the obtained correlations. The study also evaluated the effects of drying time and using different types of KBr on correlation coefficients.
