Effects of hull form parameters on seakeeping for YTU gulet series with cruiser stern

Cakici, Ferdi,Aydin, Muhsin The Society of Naval Architects of Korea 2014 International Journal of Naval Architecture and Oc Vol.6 No.3

This study aims to identify the relations between seakeeping characteristics and hull form parameters for YTU Gulet series with cruiser stern. Seakeeping analyses are carried out by means of a computer software which is based on the strip theory and statistical short term response prediction method. Multiple regression analysis is used for numerical assessment through a computer software. RMS heave-pitch motions and absolute vertical accelerations on passenger saloon for Sea State 3 at head waves are investigated for this purpose. It is well known that while ship weight and the ratios of main dimensions are the primary factors on ship motions, other hull form parameters ($C_P$, $C_{WP}$, $C_{VP}$, etc.) are the secondary factors. In this study, to have an idea of geometric properties on ship motions of gulets three different regression models are developed. The obtained outcomes provide practical predictions of seakeeping behavior of gulets with a high level of accuracy that would be useful during the concept design stage.

Changes in the Physico-chemical and Microbial Quality during the Production of Pastırma Cured with Different Levels of Sodium Nitrite

        Muhammet Irfan Aksu,Ebru Erdemir,Neslihan Cakici 한국축산식품학회 2016 한국축산식품학회지 Vol.36 No.5

Pastırma, a dry-cured meat product, is produced from the whole muscle and/or muscles obtained from certain parts of beef and water buffalo carcasses. The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of different levels of sodium nitrite on changes in the physico-chemical and microbial quality during the production of pastırma. The changes in residual nitrite, salt, pH, moisture, thiobarbutiric acid reactive substances (TBARS), colour (L*, a*, b*), total aerobic mesophilic bacteria (TAMB), lactic acid bacteria (LAB), Micrococcus/ Staphylococcus (M/S), mould-yeast (M-Y), and Enterobacteriaceae counts of pastırma with 0, 50, 100 and 150 ppm sodium nitrite were determined during the production. The nitrite levels and the production stages had significant effects (p<0.01) on residual nitrite, TBARS, pH, salt, and colour values. The TBARS values of the pastırma with nitrite were significantly lower (p<0.05) than the control. The final TAMB, LAB, M/S, and M-Y counts of pastırma with 150 ppm nitrite were significantly (p<0.05) lower than the control. Also, the a* (relative redness) values of control pastırma were significantly lower (p<0.05) than the pastırma with nitrite. The production stages had a significant effect (p<0.01) on the moisture.

The Mechanism of the Late Preconditioning Effect of 3-Nitropropionic Acid

        Basgut, Bilgen,Aypar, Eda,Basgut, Ertug,Akin, K. Okhan,Kilic, Nedret,Cakici, Idal 대한약학회 2008 Archives of Pharmacal Research Vol.31 No.10

The aim of the present study was to investigate the mechanism of effect of 3-nitropropionic acid- (3-NP) induced late preconditioning in rat heart. For this purpose 20-30 min before 3-NP (20 mg/kg, i.p.) injection, the rats were treated intraperitoneally with 5-hydroxydecanoate (40 mg/kg, 5-HD, mitochondrial $K_{ATP}$-channel blocker), L-NAME (100 mg/kg, NOS inhibitor), N-2-mercaptopropionylglycine (100 mg/kg, MPG, free radical scavenger), or superoxide dismutase+catalase (10000+10000 IU/kg, SOD+CAT). Control rats received saline only without 3-NP pretreatment. After two days, hearts were isolated and perfused at a constant pressure in a Langendorff apparatus. 15-min global ischemia followed by 30-min reperfusion was applied to all hearts. Pretreatment of 3-NP significantly reduced infarct size, creatine kinase-MB (CK-MB), lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) levels, and incidence of ventricular tachycardia (VT) compared with the control group receiving saline only. 5-HD, L-NAME, MPG, or SOD+CAT treatment statistically reversed 3-NP-induced reduction in infarct size. Although CK-MB, LDH levels, and incidence of VT were also reduced by L-NAME, MPG, or SOD+CAT treatment, only 5-HD significantly inhibited beneficial effects of 3-NP on all of the parameters above. These results showed that mito-$K_{ATP}$ channels play a pivotal role in late preconditioning effect of 3-NP in the isolated rat heart. However, other mediators such as reactive oxygen species and NO may be, at least in part, involved in mechanisms of this effect.

      • Non-metastatic Upper Tract Transitional Cell Carcinoma: Single Center Experience

Demirci, Umut,Canda, Abdullah Erdem,Dede, Didem Sener,Cakici, Ozer Ural,Akinci, Muhammed Bulent,Yalcin, Bulent Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2013 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.14 No.2

Background: Upper tract transitional cell carcinomas (UTCC) are relatively uncommon but prognosis is generally worse than TCC of bladder. Methods: Between March 2004 and June 2012, patients with initial non-metastatic UTCC were assessed in the Medical Oncology and Urology Departments of Ataturk Training and Research Hospital. Results: A total of 11 patients with initially non-metastatic UTCC were detected in the 8 year period, all males. Median age of was 62 (range, 38-74). Six lesions were located in the renal pelvis and 5 in the ureter. Nephroureterectomy was performed in 9 patients, and distal ureterectomy and cuff excision of the bladder in the remaining 2. The majority (n= 9) had high grade tumors. Median primary tumor diameter was 3.5 cm (range, 0.7-10). Five patients (45.5%) were stage I, 2 (18.2%) were stage II, and 4 (36.4%) were stage III. While adjuvant chemotherapy was not applied for stage I and II disease (n= 7), 4 to 6 courses were applied for 3 of the stage III patients. Also one stage III case received adjuvant radiotherapy. Up to 100 months follow-up, median overall survival was 13 months (range, 5-100 months). While stage I and II patients are following-up without muscle-invasive progression, 2 of stage III patients demonstrated progression. Conclusion: We need more collaborative studies to determine management of especially pT3-pT4 patients with UTCC.
