Translation and validation of the Turkish version of the Psychosocial Impact of Dental Aesthetics Questionnaire

        Cahide Aglarci,Asli Baysal,Kadir Demirci,Ferhan Dikmen,Ali Vasfi Aglarcid 대한치과교정학회 2016 대한치과교정학회지 Vol.46 No.4

Objective: The aim of this study was to translate the Psychosocial Impact of Dental Aesthetics Questionnaire (PIDAQ) into Turkish, validate the questionnaire, and provide a cross-cultural adaptation. Methods: The translation process included the following steps, which were performed by a translation committee: (1) translation into Turkish, (2) back translation into English, (3) pretesting, and (4) cross-cultural adaptation. The Turkish version of the PIDAQ was produced subsequent to the translation process. Validity and reliability were measured using the Perception of Occlusion Scale and the aesthetic component of the Index of Orthodontic Treatment Need. The questionnaire was administered to 260 individuals (age range, 18–30 years; mean age, 20.50 ± 1.9 years). Structural validity was assessed via factor analysis, and internal consistency was measured using Cronbach’s alpha coefficient. Results: Factor analysis revealed a four-factor structure, with factor loadings for included items ranging from 0.380 to 0.868. Few questions were shuffled among domains various factor loadings. Cronbach’s alphas for the Turkish version of the PIDAQ ranged from 0.534 to 0.904. Mean scores for the PIDAQ subscale and total scores differed significantly according to Index of Orthodontic Treatment Need and Perception of Occlusion Scale scores. Conclusions: This study provided a Turkish version of the PIDAQ, which could be a useful tool in the evaluation of the psychosocial impact of malocclusion in young Turkish adults.

      • Maxillary protraction using skeletal anchorage and intermaxillary elastics in Skeletal Class III patients

        Elcin Esenlik,Cahide A?larcı,Gayem Ero?lu Albayrak,Yavuz Fındık 대한치과교정학회 2015 대한치과교정학회지 Vol.45 No.2

The aim of this case report is to describe the treatment of a patient with skeletal Class III malocclusion with maxillary retrognathia using skeletal anchorage devices and intermaxillary elastics. Miniplates were inserted between the mandibular lateral incisor and canine teeth on both sides in a male patient aged 14 years 5 months. Self-drilling mini-implants (1.6 mm diameter, 10 mm length) were installed between the maxillary second premolar and molar teeth, and Class III elastics were used between the miniplates and miniscrews. On treatment completion, an increase in the projection of the maxilla relative to the cranial base (2.7 mm) and significant improvement of the facial profile were observed. Slight maxillary counterclockwise (1°) and mandibular clockwise (3.3°) rotations were also observed. Maxillary protraction with skeletal anchorage and intermaxillary elastics was effective in correcting a case of Skeletal Class III malocclusion without dentoalveolar side effects.

Collet-Sicard Syndrome Associated with Occipital Condyle Fracture and Epidural Hematoma

        Fatih Serhat Erol,Cahide Topsakal,Metin Kaplan,Hanifi Yildirim,Mehmet Faik Ozveren 연세대학교의과대학 2007 Yonsei medical journal Vol.48 No.1

A 31-year-old male was presented with a very rare case of ipsilateral palsies of the nerves IX through XII (Collet-Sicard syndrome) after a closed head injury. An occipital condyle fracture that was associated with epidural hematoma was diagnosed by computed tomography. The patient was conservatively managed, and following the treatment, partial neurological recovery ensued. The phenomenon of occipital condyle fracture involving the last four cranial nerve palsies is relatively rare. Although 3 cases of Collet-Sicard syndrome that were caused by an occipital condyle fracture has been reported, the association between condyle fracture and epidural hematoma has never been described before.

Meningocele with Cervical Dermoid Sinus Tract Presenting with Congenital Mirror Movement and Recurrent Meningitis

        Fatih Serhat. Erol,Cahide Topsakal,M.Faik Ozveren,Ismail Akdemir,Bengu Cobanoglu 연세대학교의과대학 2004 Yonsei medical journal Vol.45 No.SUP

Dermoid sinuses and meningoceles are seldom encountered in the cervical region. Besides, to the best of our knowledge, the coexistence of these types of congenital abnormalities with recurrent meningitis, as well as with mirror movement, has never been reported before. A 14-year-old female with the diagnosis of recurrent meningitis was referred to our clinic from the Department of Infectious Diseases. She had a cervical meningocele mass that was leaking cerebro-spinal fluid (CSF) and an associated mirror movement symptom. Spina bifida, dermoid sinus and meningocele lesions were demonstrated at the C2 level on computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). She underwent an operation to remove the sinus tract together with the sac, and at the same time the tethered cord between the sac base and the distal end of the spinal cord was detached. The diagnosis of dermoid sinus and meningocele was confirmed histopathologically. These kinds of congenital pathologies in the cervical region may also predispose the patient to other diseases or symptoms. Herein, a case of meningocele associated with cervical dermoid sinus tract which presented with recurrent meningitis and a rare manifestation of mirror movement is discussed. Neurosurgeons should consider the possible coexistence of mirror movement and recurrent meningitis in the treatment of these types of congenital abnormalities.

Are Spinal or Paraspinal Anatomic Markers Helpful for Vertebral Numbering and Diagnosing Lumbosacral Transitional Vertebrae?

        Nil Tokgoz,Murat Ucar,Aylin Billur Erdogan,Koray Kilic,Cahide Ozcan 대한영상의학회 2014 Korean Journal of Radiology Vol.15 No.2

Objective: To evaluate the value of spinal and paraspinal anatomic markers in both the diagnosis of lumbosacral transitional vertebrae (LSTVs) and identification of vertebral levels on lumbar MRI. Materials and Methods: Lumbar MRI from 1049 adult patients were studied. By comparing with the whole-spine localizer, the diagnostic errors in numbering vertebral segments on lumbar MRI were evaluated. The morphology of S1–2 disc, L5 and S1 body, and lumbar spinous processes (SPs) were evaluated by using sagittal MRI. The positions of right renal artery (RRA), superior mesenteric artery, aortic bifurcation (AB) and conus medullaris (CM) were described. Results: The diagnostic error for evaluation of vertebral segmentation on lumbar MRI alone was 14.1%. In lumbarization, all patients revealed a well-formed S1–2 disc with squared S1 body. A rhombus-shaped L5 body in sacralization and a rectangular-shaped S1 body in lumbarization were found. The L3 had the longest SP. The most common sites of spinal andparaspinal structures were: RRA at L1 body (53.6%) and L1–2 disc (34.1%), superior mesenteric artery at L1 body (55.1%) and T12–L1 disc (31.6%), and AB at L4 body (71.1%). CM had variable locations, changing from the T12–L1 disc to L2 body. They were located at higher sacralization and lower lumbarization. Conclusion: The spinal morphologic features and locations of the spinal and paraspinal structures on lumbar MRI are not completely reliable for the diagnosis of LSTVs and identification on the vertebral levels.

Role of 68Ga-DOTATATE PET/CT in a Case of SDHB-Related Pterygopalatine Fossa Paraganglioma Successfully Controlled with Octreotide

        Abhishek Jha,Mayank Patel,Eva Baker,Melissa K. Gonzales,Alexander Ling,Corina Millo,Marianne Knue,Ali Cahid Civelek,Karel Pacak 대한핵의학회 2020 핵의학 분자영상 Vol.54 No.1

We describe an unusual case of a 42-year-old female with an unresectable succinate dehydrogenase subunit B (SDHB)-related pterygopalatine fossa paraganglioma. She underwent somatostatin receptor imaging with 68Ga- DOTA(0)-Tyr(3)-octreotate (68Ga-DOTATATE) positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT), which showed uptake in the above mentioned tumor. Hence, the patient was started on octreotide, a cold somatostatin analog, and responded with tumor stabilization and improvement of clinical symptoms for 36 months since initiation of octreotide therapy. This case demonstrates the role of 68Ga-DOTATATE PET/CT in diagnostic localization and its subsequent role in treatment using cold somatostatin analog as a potential choice of therapy in the management of paraganglioma in an unusual location with limited therapeutic options.

Elevated Serum Galectin-1 and Galectin-3 Levels in Children With Specific Learning Disorder: A Case Control Study

        Yaşar Tanır,Zeynep Nur Gülle,Gökçe Sultan Uncu,Adile Merve Baki,Pervin Vural,Nusret Soylu,Abdurrahman Cahid Örengül 대한신경정신의학회 2023 PSYCHIATRY INVESTIGATION Vol.20 No.7

Objective Specific learning disorder (SLD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder in which underlying pathogenesis and etiological factors are not fully understood. Neuroinflammatory response (measured with serum levels of galectin-1 and galectin-3), which is associated with learning and memory, may play an important role in the etiopathogenesis of SLD. Aim of the present study is to examine whether serum galectin-1 and galectin-3 levels are related to SLD.Methods The current study consisted of 42 treatment-naive children with SLD and 42 control subjects. All of the subjects were assessed using semi-structured psychiatric examination to diagnose SLD and exclude attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder. Serum galectin-1 and galectin-3 levels were measured via venous blood samples. Results The SLD and control group did not differ significantly in terms of age, sex, and body mass index (BMI). The SLD group had significantly higher serum levels of galectin-1 (8.78±2.97 vs. 7.40±2.03, p=0.019) and galectin-3 (1.86±0.93 vs. 1.32±0.69, p=0.003) than the control group when controlled for age, sex, and BMI.Conclusion Higher serum levels of galectin-1 and galectin-3 in children with SLD may indicate the role of neuroinflammatory response in the pathogenesis of SLD. Other mechanisms involving galectin-1 and galectin-3 related to learning may play a part in the etiology of SLD.

An autonomous system design for mold loading on press brake machines using a camera platform, deep learning, and image processing

Muhammet Üsame Öziç,cahid Barstuğan,Atakan Özdamar 대한기계학회 2023 JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Vol.37 No.8

Press brakes are among the most important machines used in sheet metal processing. In these machines, different numbers of molds are used for sheet bending and these molds are placed in the system by an operator. However, this process is slow, errorprone, and dependent on human labor. In this study, a real-time system that automatically detects molds and manipulates a robotic arm was designed using YOLOv4 and image processing. YOLOv4, a deep learning (DL)-based object detection algorithm, was applied to detect the positions, types, and holes of molds. Classical image processing methods were implemented to find the center (X, Y) coordinates of the mold hole. This study shows that the press brake machines currently used in industry can be transformed into smart machines through DL, image processing, camera systems, and robotic arm features.
