        이상 소설에 나타난 반복의 유희와 제3의 시간

        이 논문은 이상의 소설들을 반복운동을 통해 제3의 시간을 생성하려는 실험적인 시도로 살펴보았다. 반복은 재현과 함께 소설을 통해 상처를 극복하고 미래를 소망하는 방법의 하나이다. 재현이란 세계관의 매개에 의존해 전망을 드러내는 리얼리즘 소설의 방법이다. 반면에 반복은 무매개적인 공간에서 상처의 고통을 반복하면서 심연의 순수기억을 동요시켜 자아의 능동성을 회생시킨다. 재현의 리얼리즘이 선적인 인과적 플롯으로 전개된다면 반복의 문학은 과거가 되돌아와 시간이 존재로 전이되는 제3의 시간을 생성한다. 이상의 「날개」는 아내의 사건 이후 선적 시간에서 이탈한 주인공이 심연의 순수기억을 동요시키는 반복의 힘으로 ‘날개’를 소망한다. 이처럼 반복의 문학은 재현의 리얼리즘이 어려워졌을 때 선적인 시간과는 다른 시간을 통해 사라진 미래를 다시 한 번 붙잡으려는 시도이다. 「종생기」에서는 상황이 더욱 어려어지지만 이상은 메타픽션의 형식으로 글쓰기를 반복하며 절망을 지연시키려는 노력을 그치지 않는다. 또한 「실화」는 이상의 사랑의 소망이 좌절된 기록인데 여기서도 19세기와 20세기 사이의 틈새에서 경성과 동경의 좌절을 만회하는 제3의 시간에 대한 자의식을 드러내고 있다. 이상의 소설은 분열의 문학으로 읽히지만 절망 속에서도 다시 한 번 날아보려는 제3의 시간의 갈망이 반복적으로 솟아오르고 있었다. This paper looked at the Lee Sang's novels as an experimental attempt to create third time through repetitive motion. Repetition is one of the ways to overcome trauma and hope for the future through novels along with representation. Representation is a method of realism fiction that reveals the perspective depending on the mediation of the world view. On the other hand, repetition regenerates self-activity by agitating pure memories of the abyss while repeating the pain of trauma in an unmediated space. If the realism of representation is developed in a linear causal plot, the literature of repetition creates third time in which the past returns and time is transformed into existence. Lee Sang's Wings hopes for “Wings” with the power of repetition where the protagonist who has strayed from shipping time after his wife's incident shakes Abyss' pure memories. In this way, the literature of repetition is an attempt to capture the future that has disappeared through a time different from the linear time when the realism of representation becomes difficult. In Jongsaenggi, the situation becomes more difficult, but Lee Sang does not end to delay despair by repeating writing in the form of meta-fiction. In addition, Silhwahwa is a record in which the hope of ideal love is frustrated, and it reveals the self-consciousness of third time that makes up for the frustration of Gyeongseong and Tokyo in the gap between the 19th and 20th centuries. Lee Sang's novels above is read as a literature of fragmentation, but even in despair, the desire of third time to fly again was rising repeatedly.

      • CTALYTIC OXIDATION OF PARTICULATE MATTERS (PM) FROM DIESEL ENGINES

        The paper summarizes the key developments in diesel emission control, especially particulate matter. Increasing attention is being paid to the particulate matter (PM) emissions form diesel vehicles, which consists mostly of carbonaceous soot and a volatile organic fraction (VOF) of hydrocarbons that have condensed on the soot. There is growing concern about these emissions, since emerging evidence potentially implicates PM as a major pollutant associated with acute health effects. Regarding ultrafines PM, studies are emerging which provide chemical detail as a function of size fraction, and more is known about the structure and reactivity of soot. Filter technology is focusing on optimization, with work being done on better ways to regenerate the filter and improve system back pressure and durability. System integration of filters and NOx control is in road testing for heavy duty applications using SCR. DPF+LNTs help prototype light-duty diesels comfortably attain the tightest future regulations. This paper also introduces our current work exerted to investigate the characteristics of diesel exhaust gas emissions and performance of catalytic converter systems on the conditions of engine operation and fuel mixtures.

        The Management of Open Pelvic Fractures: A Report of 2 Cases

        Open pelvic fractures are rare, but pose challenges for trauma surgeons due to their high morbidity and mortality. Generally, early death results from uncontrolled exsanguination and late death is related to pelvic sepsis. Therefore, management of these injuries should prioritize hemostasis and contamination control starting in the initial phase of treatment. We report two cases of unstable open pelvic fractures with perineal wounds that were managed successfully.

        Beam Optics Design of a 100-MeV Beam Line for PEFP Users

        The beam delivery systems of the Proton Engineering Frontier Project (PEFP) linear accelerator provide users with 20-MeV and 100-MeV proton beams. Each beam delivery system is divided into five different beam transport lines to satisfy a user's specific requirements. For the 100-MeV beam transport lines, this work examines the beam line optics for extending the vertical beam in the target room. Beam optics, as well as proper components for each part of the 100-MeV vertical beam transport line, are studied by using the well-known TRACE-3D code and Parmila code. The space charge effects do not crucially affect the beam evolution along the PEFP 100-MeV beam line. A consistency check between TRACE-3D and Parmila was accomplished for the investigation of the beam line optics.

      • Linking Multidimensional Performance Feedback and the Type of Exploration: A Behavioral Perspective

        The behavioral theory of the firm proposes that performance–aspiration gaps significantly affect search behavior. While the theory proposes that various performance dimensions matter in organizations, in the context of innovation the research has predominantly focused on financial performance metrics. In this study, we draw on insights from the ‘multiple performance dimension’ perspective to examine how technological performance and financial performance simultaneously determine a firm’s exploration behavior through shaping organizational states. We first introduce four types of organizational state by combining technological and financial performance feedbacks. Then, we propose that while financial performance feedback delimits the scope of technological boundary of exploration (technological domain) while technological performance feedback influences the organizational emphasis toward organizational boundary of exploration (Knowledge base). Using patent and financial data from 150 firms in high-tech industries of the U.S. during 1995-2002, we provide support for our arguments. We find that different organizational state leads organizations to focus more on a certain types of exploration. Therefore, a firm’s exploration behavior can vary in accordance to organizational states conjointly formed by feedbacks from financial performance and technological performance. Our study offers the potential for bridging two theoretical perspectives, the behavioral theory of the firm and explorative search with a richer range of organizational states and actual technological trajectory of exploration.

        Intensity-modulated radiation therapy: a review with a physics perspective

        Intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) has been considered the most successful development in radiation oncology since the introduction of computed tomography into treatment planning that enabled three-dimensional conformal radiotherapy in 1980s. More than three decades have passed since the concept of inverse planning was first introduced in 1982, and IMRT has become the most important and common modality in radiation therapy. This review will present developments in inverse IMRT treatment planning and IMRT delivery using multileaf collimators, along with the associated key concepts. Other relevant issues and future perspectives are also presented.
