      • 연 착화제 효능에 관한 동물실험적 연구

        This experiment was carried out to compare the efficacy of 2,3-dimercaptosuccinic acid(DMSA) and calcium ethylenediamine tetraacetate(CaEDTA) as chelating agents for lead poisoning. The rats had been fed water containing 0.5% lead acetate for 3 months and randomly divided into three groups. We administered DMSA only for group I(n=5), CaEDTA only for group II(n=5), and both DMSA and CaEDTA for group III(n=10), for 4 days. We evaluated urinary lead(PbU) level, blood lead(PbB) level and blood zinc protoporphyrin(ZPP) level before and after administration of the chelating agents. The results obtained were as follows; 1. After administration of chelating agents, the mean PbU levels, which were 248.2㎍/dl, 252.6㎍/dl and 270.0㎍/dl in group I, II and III before administration, were increased to 484.6㎍/dl, 479.9㎍/dl and 1,792.1㎍/dl in group I, II and III, respectively(p<0.05). 2. After administration of chelating agents, the mean PbB levels, which were 67.4㎍/dl, 59.9㎍/dl and 62.5㎍/dl in group I, II and III before administration, were decreased to 38.1㎍/dl, 36.3㎍/dl and 31.3㎍/dl in group I, II and III, respectively(p<0.05), but there were no different changes of ZPP level among groups. 3. The blood lead clearances, which were calculated by PbB level before and after administration of chelating agents, were 49.8%, 43.5% and 39.5% in group III, I and II, respectively.

      • 한국산 화살나무속(노박덩굴과)의 수리분류학적 연구

        한국산 화살나무속 16분류군의 분류군간의 한계를 규명하고 속내분류체계의 타당성을 논하고자, 화살나무속 107개의 OTU를 대상으로 60개의 외부형태형질에 대한 유집분석과 주성분분석의 수리분류학적 연구를 수행하였다. 중심연결법과 Ward방법에 의한 두 가지 유집분석의 결과, 유집군들의 구성이 거의 동일하게 나타났으며, grouprks에는 유사도가 매우 높은 것으로 관찰되었고, 각 종간에는 독립적으로 높은 수준의 유집이 형성되어 뚜렷한 불연속성이 존재하는 것으로 나타났다. 주성분분석결과 주성분1(38.4%), 주성분2(27.5%), 주성분3(17.2%)이 총 83.2%의 기여율을 보였으며, 이를 3차원공간에 투영하여 뚜렷한 5개의 유집군으로 구분할 수 있었다. 본 연구결과, 속내 각 종집단간의 명확한 불연속성이 관찰되었으나, sect. Biloculares의 분류학적 위치에 관한 문제점등이 제시되었다. 또한, 속내 분류체계에 있어서 Blakelock의 견해가 타당한 것으로 판단된다. This study was conducted to elucidate the delimitations of 16 taxa of Euonymus in Korea and to discuss the infrageneric classification system among the treated taxa by cluster analysis and principle components analysis (PCA) using 107 OTUs with 60 morphological characters. Based on the results of cluster analyses by the Ward and the UPGMC methods, there were similarities on the composition of clustered taxa and distinct discontinousity independently among the species. The treated taxa were divided into five groups by the PC1, PC2 and PC3, and the sums of contributions for the total variance were 83.2% (PCI 38.4%, PC2 27.5% and PC3 17.2%, respectively). This study suggested that there were taxonomic problems on the limits and composition of taxa in sect. Biloculares. The current study supported the infrageneric system of Euonymus proposed by Blakelock.

        Movement and Home Range of the Red-Tongued Viper Snake (Gloydius ussuriensis) Inhabiting Gapado

        This study was conducted to investigate the movement and home range of the red-tongued viper snake (Gloydius ussuriensis) from June 2006 to June 2009. This snake species inhabits an islet on Jeju Island, Gapado. A total of 132 individual snakes were marked during the study. Among the marked individuals, the number of snakes recaptured more than once was 22 (16.8 %) and the number of individuals recaptured more than twice was eight (6.1 %), indicating a relatively low recapture rate. The durations from capture to recapture varied from 1 to 710 days. However, the capture points were not much different, indicating that the moved distance of snakes and the interval between capture-recapture were not correlated. The home ranges of the Red-tongued viper snakes calculated from data of the snakes which were captured more than three times using the MCP(minimum convex polygon) method were 8∼167 ㎡(64.0±57.0 ㎡), suggesting that this snake is relatively sedentary. Home range size differences between female (Mean=62.0 ㎡) and male (Mean=66.0 ㎡) snakes were not significant. In the red-tongued viper population of Gapado, there was no statistically significant relationship between body size and home range size although it was positively correlated (r=0.675). Our results provide valuable data to understand life patterns of the red-tongued viper snakes and will be useful when conducting further ecological studies on other snake species.

        Sublingual Delivery of Vaccines for the Induction of Mucosal Immunity

        The mucosal surfaces are constantly exposed to incoming pathogens which can cause infections that result in severe morbidity and/or mortality. Studies have reported that mucosal immunity is important for providing protection against these pathogens and that mucosal vaccination is effective in preventing local infections. For many years, the sublingual mucosa has been targeted to deliver immunotherapy to treat allergic hypersensitivities. However, the potential of vaccine delivery via sublingual mucosal has received little attention until recently. Recent studies exploring such potential have documented the safety and effectiveness of sublingual immunization, demonstrating the ability of sublingual immunization to induce both systemic and mucosal immune responses against a variety of antigens, including soluble proteins, inter particulate antigens, and live-attenuated viruses. This review will summarize the recent findings that address the promising potential of sublingual immunization in proving protection against various mucosal pathogens.

        Current Status and Management of Black-faced Spoonbills in Wintering Site of Jeju Island, Korea

        제주도에서 월동하는 저어새의 현황을 파악하기 위하여 1994년부터 2009년까지 15년간(11월부터 이듬해 3월까지 5개월간) 조사하였다. 조사결과, 1994년 이후 매해 14개체 이상의 저어새가 안정적으로 머물렀고, 2002년 1월에 가장 많은 25개체가 월동하였다. 저어새는 월동기간 동안 이용할 수 있는 먹이원이 풍부하고, 위협을 덜 받는 곳에서 활동하는 것으로 나타났다. 제주도에서의 월동지 이용을 살펴보면 휴식처는 성산포 지역을, 취식장소는 성산포 내만과 종달리 갯벌을 이용하고 있었으며, 혹독한 추위에서 몸을 피하는 곳으로는 하도리 갈대밭을 선호하는 경향이 있는 것으로 나타났다. 성산포와 종달리 갯벌에서 먹이활동을 하는 저어새의 개체수는 앞으로 더 증가할 것이 예상되어 이 지역을 습지보호지역으로 지정하고, 보존프로그램 등을 마련해서 저어새의 월동지를 보호해야 할 것이다. In this study, surveys running for 5 months each year from November to March, have been conducted for 15 years (from 1994 to 2009), in order to acquire an overall picture of the wintering behavior of black-faced spoonbills in Jeju Island, Korea. Over 14 individuals were observed to have flown over and stayed each year on a steady basis since 1994, reaching a peak of 25 wintering individuals in January of 2002. It was also confirmed that they were nestling in locations in which an abundant source of prey was available, and they were less threatened during their wintering period. Observing their behavior in making use of the wintering sites, they were observed to frequent Sunsanpo for a rest, and the interior bay and tidal flats in front of Jongdal-ri, Sungsanpo for feeding, while at the same time preferring to take shelter in the reedy field next to Hado-ri village when it is extremely cold. As more individual black-faced spoonbills are expected to be actively feeding in the tidal flats located in front of Jongdal-ri and Sungsanpo, it appears imperative to designate the area as a swamp conservation area, to devise a program for their conservation, and to protect their wintering sites.

      • 하이퍼에지의 돗수분포를 이용하여 원숭이 뇌신경 네트워크의 허브 뇌영역 찾기

        Sporns 외[1] 연구에서는 원숭이의 신경다발연결 데이터 베이스인 코코맥(CoCoMac)을 이용하여 허브 영역들을 찾은 바 있다. 이 연구에서는 그래프의 네트워크 척도의 하나인 차(degree)가 높은 영역들을 허브로 찾았다. 우리는 이를 연장하여 하이퍼에지의 돗수분포를 이용하여 허브영역을 구하여 보았다. 이때 하이퍼에지는 클릭(clique)를 의미한다. 기존의 연구의 허브들과 비교할 때 9개중 4개의 영역에서 일치하였다. 또한 마루엽(intraparietal) 영역과 시각영역(visual area)가 추가로 허브영역으로 찾아졌다. 본 연구에서는 높은 차수(order)의 하이퍼에지를 고려하여 조합의 용량(combinatorial capacity)을 기준으로 허브 영역을 찾아보았다. 이 논문의 결과에서 추가된 5영역은 “where”관련 정보를 처리하는 영역들이며 이는 생존에 필수적인 시각관련 영역이다.
