Anoctamin 1/TMEM16A controls intestinal Cl− secretion induced by carbachol and cholera toxin

Calcium-activated chloride channels (CaCCs) mediate numerous physiological functions and are best known for the transport of electrolytes and water in epithelia. In the intestine, CaCC currents are considered necessary for the secretion of fluid to protect the intestinal epithelium. Although genetic ablation of ANO1/TMEM16A, a gene encoding a CaCC, reduces the carbachol-induced secretion of intestinal fluid, its mechanism of action is still unknown. Here, we confirm that ANO1 is essential for the secretion of intestinal fluid. Carbachol-induced transepithelial currents were reduced in the proximal colon of Ano1-deficient mice. Surprisingly, cholera toxin-induced and cAMP-induced fluid secretion, believed to be mediated by CFTR, were also significantly reduced in the intestine of Ano1-deficient mice. ANO1 is largely expressed in the apical membranes of intestines, as predicted for CaCCs. The Ano1-deficient colons became edematous under basal conditions and had a greater susceptibility to dextran sodium sulfate-induced colitis. However, Ano1 depletion failed to affect tumor development in a model of colorectal cancer. We thus conclude that ANO1 is necessary for cAMP- and carbachol-induced Cl− secretion in the intestine, which is essential for the protection of the intestinal epithelium from colitis.

The Odaesan Gneiss Complex located in the northeastern Gyeonggi Massif mainly consists of banded gneiss and migmatitic gneiss with minor amphibolite, mica schist, quartzite, and marble. It has been reported that upper amphibolite - granulite facies metamorphism regionally occurred in the complex coupled with ultra-high temperature units. Amphibolites with or without garnet porphyroblasts widely occur in the central part of the complex as layers or boudins intercalated with mica schist, marble, quartzite, and banded gneiss. This study aims to constrain the P-T path for the amphibolite based on petrological and compositional variations of the garnet textures. The typical mineral assemblage of the amphibolite is Hbl+Pl+Grt±Di+Qz+Ilm, indicating the characteristic of medium-pressure amphibolite facies. Two distinct textures of garnet porphyroblasts occurred; (a) symplectic texture, (b) Hbl+Pl pseudomorph. The symplectic texture shows that the replacement textures around the rim of the garnet porphyroblasts are dominated by hornblende and plagioclase. The pseudomorph, also formed by interaction with hornblende and plagioclase after the garnet, is characterized by the partially replaced boundary of the garnet. Compositional maps of the garnet porphyroblasts represent that the XGrs and XAlm slightly increase from the core to the rim, while the XSps decreases. The matrix hornblende have higher XMg ratio than the symplectic hornblende. The symplectic plagioclase shows higher XAn (0.30 ~ 0.54) than the matrix plagioclase XAn (0.19 ~ 0.29). The peak P-T conditions of the amphibolite are 545-570℃/8.5-9 kbar using isopleths of the XGrs in the garnet and XAn in the plagioclase inclusion in the P-T pseudosections calculated in MnO-Na₂O-CaO-FeO-MgO-Al₂O₃-SiO₂-H₂O-TiO₂ system. However, the composition of hornblende appeared to be metastable with the same system. Thus, effective bulk compositions are calculated for the estimation of the matrix P-T conditions that are 3-5.6 kbar and 480-550℃ based on the isopleths of matrix amphibole XMg and XAn content of the plagioclase in Mn-NCKFMASHTO system. In summary, the textural, mineralogical data, and modeling results suggest that the amphibolite in the Odaesan Gneiss Complex experienced a near-isothermal decompression path combined with fluid-induced bulk compositional changes.
Synthesis of La0.7Sr0.3Mn1-xIrxO3 thin-films in search of superconductivity

High-TC superconductivity (HTSC) has been the central issue in the field of condensed matter physics for decades. An essentialpart of the research on superconductivity is finding new exotic superconductors. It was recently suggested that Ir-substitutedLa0.7Sr0.3MnO3 (LSMIO) is a new high-TC superconductor. However, systematic studies to experimentally verify thesuperconductivity have not been done. Here, we report the growth processes of LSMIO thin films and their electrical transportproperties. We observed a clear negative correlation between the intensity of the laser utilized for film deposition and the Curietemperature of the deposited film. We attributed this effect to the suppression of Sr concentration in the LSMIO films as the laserintensity increased. However, our LSMIO films show conventional ferromagnetism instead of HTSC. To realize the HTSC inLSMIO systems, further exploration of diverse compositions of LSMIO compounds is essential.

Haskell의 타입 클래스(Type Class) 등과 같이 타입 정보를 통해 프로그램 코드를 자동으로 넘겨주는 프로그래밍 기술이 유용하게 쓰이고 있다. 타입 추론이 코드를 주면 자동으로 그 코드의 타입을 유추하는 것처럼 암시적 계산 언어는 주어진 코드의 타입을 보고 필요한 코드가 무엇인지 유추해 낼 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 위와 같은 암시적인 계산 언어들의 주요한 성질을 뽑아 만든 언어의 실행기를 만들었다. 또 실행기를 구현함에 있어서 일반적인 실행기에서 거의 쓰이지 않는 동일화 알고리즘(Unification Algorithm)을 사용했다.
