Coleridge’s Essay on Criticism in Biographia Literaria

This paper examines Coleridge’s philosophy and poetics focusing on Biographia Literaria. It deals with a subject of criticism based on his epistemology. He believes that his work is made possible from his realization of the principle of natura naturans (self-causing activity of nature). In this firm philosophical vision, he sets the framework of criticism of harmony of opposition. Many critics have different perspectives on the structure of Biographia Literaria. This is due to the reckless attempt to combine its “sketches” and “opinions” together in a coherent way. This article suggests that the readers should be encouraged to understand the subject of each chapter and examine the whole structure. I would like to reveal that Biographia Literaria is a well-mixed text of Coleridge’s biography, his philosophical thought, and his poetics. In addition, I review the process of his writing through this process to help me to examine his philosophical thought and his criticism in an integrated way.

The Prelude is basically a story of Wordsworth"s unmothered life. The memory of the absence of his mother is not so remarkable that readers cannot easily grasp the importance of her presence in Wordsworth"s memory. His direct mention of his mother would also only be supposed to mean her absence. In relation to his absent mother, this paper is to trace the repressed memory of his mother which haunts him. His remembrance of his mother"s presence is subtle, but his calling for his surrogates such as the nurse and the stream is so powerfully presented in The Prelude. His rearrangement and addition of the episodes of what he has gone through shows how he copes with his separation and loss caused by his mother"s death and what he pursues even after it. He is quite frequently driven from the silent and undifferentiated world of the nurse and the river into Oedipal aggression and the fear of his father"s authority. However, his memory of his separation and desolation is followed by the memory of his mental power of reunion, synthetic power of imagination stemming from the influence of his absent mother. Paradoxically speaking, his separation from his mother is indispensable to his becoming a real poet who makes language itself as an instrument for his profoundest mental meditation.

Growth and restoration of a T-tile-based 1D DNA nanotrack

<P>We designed an artificial one-dimensional DNA nanotrack that contains two T-motifs. It can be fabricated in a free solution and with a mica-assisted growth process. Revolution Reverberated in Romantic Discourse of Blake, Wordsworth and Coleridge

The outbreak of the French Revolution kindled the literary passion of Blake, Wordsworth and Coleridge. The Romantic discourse cast a reflection of the ideological desires that these writers had kept in their minds. They all were engaged in the political, economical and classrelated issues of their day. Having gone through their sufferings in the social reality, they hardened their literary foundation. They sustained their hope to cope with the circumstantial problems in their own way. They tried to solve the problems of human sufferings caused by the social injustice of their day. Their social consciousness helps them to embody and activate their literary ideal and sublimate their afflictions in their literary works. The French Revolution and their social awareness instil the sense of duty as a poet into the hearts of these Romantic poets. They revolt against any conventional ideas which constrain the free speculation. They present their ideal in which democratic social order would be established and accepted. They aspires to accomplish their ideal with freedom and equality, free from the arrogance of the tyranny. Therefore, the imagination is valuable as a means to lay groundwork for their literary ideal buildup. Most of all, their inner mind and inner revolution radiate through their works. Their works are the literary traces of this Romantic discourse cultivated through the realistic social changes.

워즈워스 내면세계의 인식 확대와 자기 투영

This study endeavours to find traces of what William Wordsworth experienced about his inner world, projected as a narrator in the Intimations Ode, which shows Wordsworth’s autobiographical experience. He dramatizes the way he projects himself through this poem, emphasizing the autobiographical experiences that underlie this poem. As a child, Wordsworth had trouble accepting the concept of death. In the Intimations Ode, he transforms himself into several versions. This poem depicts the process of self-projection through his psychological foundation and various dramatic expression techniques to reflect his inner experience. Through metaphors and rhetorical expressions that can be found in the process of “loss, despair and consolation” of the poet projected as a poetic speaker, it dramatizes the situation of self-transformation that the poet himself claims to have experienced as a result of what he realized. Sublime is used to show evidence that the speaker has found comfort. It can be seen that the narrator’s sense of loss is accompanied by consolation, and the peace of mind is evoked through the sublime.

Effects of ZnO and cordierite contents on the wetting properties of a Bi2O3–ZnO–B2O3 glass composite as a low-melting sealing glass

The wetting properties of Bi 2 O 3 –ZnO–B 2 O 3 glass composite materials with diff erent ZnO and cordierite contents were investigated upon melting them and thermally treating them at 1300 °C and 430 °C, respectively. The density of a 48%Bi 2 O 3 – 24%ZnO–22% B 2 O 3 glass composite was 7.30 g/cm 3 , which is 99.3% of its theoretical density; its glass softening temperature was 413.2 °C. The addition of cordierite improved the adhesion of the glass by acting as a fi ller, thus lowering its coeffi cient of thermal expansion. Specifi cally, by adding 0–15% cordierite, the coeffi cient of thermal expansion of the Bi 2 O 3 –ZnO–B 2 O 3 glass was reduced from 10.6 × 10 –6 to 7.5 × 10 –6 /K. X-ray diff raction and transmission electron microscopy studies confi rmed that the glass was not crystallized, but rather a composite. This study demonstrates that the Bi 2 O 3 –ZnO–B 2 O 3 glass composite developed herein is an environment-friendly lead-free material that can be sintered at 430 °C without losing its tempered glass function; therefore, this material shows promise for applications in architecture, electronic devices, and home appliances.

백치를 통한 워즈워스의 문학적 상상력 재현

본 연구는 워즈워스가 시인의 임무에 대해 공을 들이고 있음을 「백치소년」을 통해 찾아보고자 한다. 인간의 느낌을 좋아지게 하고 또 그 느낌을 순수하고 지속적이게끔 유지하면서 모든 사물의 영혼과 부합되게끔 만드는데 워즈워스는 관심이 있다. 그는 독자들이 감정의 불편함을 극복하고 사랑의 가치를 키워나갈 수 있는 것에 대해 보여 준다. 그는 「백치소년」에서 죠니가 백치이기는 하지만 신성한 비전을 가진 역량이 있음을 보여주고자 한다. 죠니 이외의 다른 등장인물들은 그러한 비전을 감지할 능력조차 없음을 보여준다. 다른 인물들은 죠니가 생각하고 행동하는 것들에 대해 이해조차 하기 어렵다. 죠니는 「영원불멸송」에서 묘사된 환영적 미광을 전혀 잃지 않고 영구히 어린 아이로 남아 있을 수 있는 그러한 인물이다. 그는 어린 아이이면서도 경계적 인물로 간주된다. 그는 환영적 영역 즉, 영험의 영역에 접근할 능력이 있는 인물로 묘사된다. 따라서 어느 독자라도 워즈워스가 죠니와 같은 정신 질환이 있는 인물을 만들어내는 실수를 범했다고 생각하는 것은 워즈워스의 전략적 심오함을 이해하는데 전혀 도움이 되지 못한다. 낮/밤과 같은 상반된 개념을 전복시키는 능력이 죠니에게 있음을 보여주면서 워즈워스는 죠니의 창조적 역량과 자연에 대한 영적 깨달음이 상통할 수 있음을 증명 한다. 죠니는 젊은 워즈워스를 상징한다고 볼 수 있다. 이런 죠니의 역량에 대한 기록 은 워즈워스가 진정한 영적 깨달음을 경험하게 된 것을 이야기한 『서곡』의 "스노우돈 산" 장면을 예견케 한다. 워즈워스는 「백치소년」을 통해서 백치와 연관된 시작업이 어떻게 풍자적 즐거움과 숭고한 기쁨을 줄 수 있는지를 보여준 셈이다. 본 연구는 「백치소년」이 워즈워스의 시적 상상력에 대한 연구에 필요한 작품임을 증명한 연구이다. This study focuses upon Wordsworth’s elaboration on the mission of the poet. Rectifying men’s feelings and making them pure and persistent, Wordsworth believes that they should be in accordance with the spirit of all things. He hopes to demonstrate how the readers can overcome their disgust, one of their natural feelings and how they can go through the value of love. Through The Idiot Boy, he shows the concrete example of his literary purpose and his open-mindedness towards those who are regarded as idiots. Moreover, he is convinced that Johnny of The Idiot Boy has the capacity to the divine vision although he is thought of as an idiot. The other characters, apart from Johnny, are not able to make sense of that vision, however they seem ostensibly omnipotent. They cannot understand what Johnny thinks and where he strays aimlessly at night. He is a character who is going to permanently remain as a child without losing the visionary gleam described in Ode: Intimations of Immortality. He is looked upon as both a child and a marginal man. Wordsworth hopes to depict Johnny’s ability to obtain access to a visionary or divine realm. Therefore, it is not helpful to understand Wordsworth’s strategic profundity that any reader could think he would make a huge mistake to create a mentally disabled figure such as Johnny. Demonstrating that Johnny has a recognition ability to overthrow the binary oppositions such as day and night, Wordsworth confirms Johnny’s unique and creative capacity which contributes to the spiritual awakening of nature. Johnny represents a youthful Wordsworth. Such recognition Johnny shows anticipates the scene of Snowdon of The Prelude, where Wordsworth experiences a true spiritual awakening. Through The Idiot Boy, Wordsworth hopes to manifest how a poetic work to be associated with an idiocy could present both a satiric pleasure and sublime delight. The Idiot Boy deserves to be valued as an essential work about a poetic imagination.

AHP 분석을 활용한 B2B 영업사원 역량의 상대적 중요도와 우선순위 연구 : 공급사와 구매사 간의 인식차이

This study aims to present the differentiating factors of B2B salesperson competency through comparing the suppliers and buyers in Korean steel industry in their perception on the importance and priority of B2B salesperson competency. Based on previous studies, analysis on B2B salesperson competency has been analyzed using the B2B salesperson performance competency measure factors and appropriately reorganizing them for better application to the steel industry. The required performance competencies of B2B salesperson can be categorized into 3 different types, namely social exchange competency, advisory sales competency, and skill & knowledge competency. AHP analysis was performed for analyzing the relative importance of B2B salesperson competency based on the factors of previous studies, in which categorization of the aforementioned types had been done. As the result, first, it has been confirmed that there is a difference in 1st layer main factors between the supplier group and buyer group. The supplier group valued the advisory sales competency, while the buyer group valued skill & knowledge competency. Second, it has been proved that there is same result of relative importance in 2nd detailed factors between the supplier group and buyer group. Both group confirmed that customer member, identify customer needs and communication skill are very important factors. Third, as the result of analysis on the gap between B2B salesperson competency of the suppliers and buyers, the gap in the product knowledge and sales team member need improvement for buyer’s satisfaction according to overall results of relative importance and priority. The steel supplier was able to develop B2B salesperson competency according to the buyers’ needs based on the result of this study, and furthermore it is expected that this study will be able to contribute to increase in buyer competitiveness through differentiation in B2B salesperson competency.
