Adenocarcinomas (AC) are the most frequently encountered carcinomas. It may be quite challenging to detect the primary origin when those carcinomas metastasize and the first finding is a metastatic tumor. This study evaluated the role of sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG) positivity in tumor cells in the subclassification and detection of the original organ of adenocarcinomas. Between 1994 and 2008, 64 sections of normal tissue belonging to ten organs, and 116 cases diagnosed as adenoid cystic carcinoma and mucoepidermoid carcinoma of the salivary gland, lung adenocarcinoma, invasive ductal carcinoma of the breast, adenocarcinoma of stomach, colon, gallbladder, pancreas and prostate, endometrial adenocarcinoma and serous adenocarcinoma and mucinous adenocarcinoma of the ovary, were sent to the laboratory at the Department of Pathology at the Yuzuncu Yil University School of Medicine, where they were stained immunohistochemically, using antibodies against SHBG. The SHBG immunoreactivity in both the tumor cells and normal cells, together with the type, diffuseness and intensity of the staining were then evaluated. In the differential diagnosis of the adenocarcinomas of the organs, including the glandular structures, impressively valuable results are encountered in the tumor cells, whether the SHBG immunopositivity is evaluated alone or together with other IHC markers. Further extensive research with a larger number of cases, including instances of cholangiocarcinoma and cervix uteri AC [which we could not include in the study for technical reasons] should be performed, in order to appropriately evaluate the role of SHBG in the differential diagnosis of AC.

BULUT,,Serap,MAGESH,,Nanjundan,BALAJI,,Vittalrao,Kupparao The Honam Mathematical Society 2018 호남수학학술지 Vol.40 No.4
In this paper, we obtain initial coefficient bounds for an unified subclass of analytic functions by using the Chebyshev polynomials. Furthermore, we find the Fekete-$Szeg{\ddot{o}}$ result for this class. All results are sharp. Consequences of the results are also discussed.
BULUT,,Serap The Honam Mathematical Society 2017 호남수학학술지 Vol.39 No.4
In this paper, by means of the $S{\breve{a}}l{\breve{a}}gean$ operator, we introduce a new subclass $\mathcal{B}^{m,n}_{\Sigma}({\gamma};{\varphi})$ of analytic and bi-univalent functions in the open unit disk $\mathbb{U}$. For functions belonging to this class, we consider Fekete-$Szeg{\ddot{o}}$ inequalities.

Bulut,,Suleyman,Aktas,,Binhan,Kagan,Erkmen,,Akif,Ersoy,Ozden,,Cuneyt,Gokkaya,,Cevdet,Serkan,Baykam,,Mehmet,Murat,Memis,,Ali Asian Pacific Organization for Cancer Prevention 2014 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.15 No.18
Purpose: Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) is increasingly being recognized as a metabolic disease in recent studies. The aim of the present study was to identify the prevalence of metabolic syndrome (MetS) and its association with RCC among urologic patients. Materials and Methods: The study included a total of 355 participants (117 adult RCC patients and 238 age matched controls) divided into groups, with and without MetS diagnosed using the criteria of the American Heart Association/The National Heart Lung and Blood Institute. Groups were compared statistically and logistic regression analysis was performed to investigate the impact of MetS criteria on RCC risk. Results: Of the 117 RCC patients, 52 (44.4%) and of the 238 controls, 37 (15.5%) had MetS. A significant association (p<0.001) was found between the presence of MetS and RCC (OR: 4.35; 95% CI=2.62-7.21). As the number of MetS components accumulated from 3 to 5, RCC risk increased likewise from 4 to 6 times. Conclusions: MetS is more prevalent in RCC patients in Turkey compared to controls. Risk increases with the number of coexisting MetS components.
Cephalic lateral crural advancement flap
Bulut,Fuat 대한성형외과학회 2021 Archives of Plastic Surgery Vol.48 No.2
Background In lower lateral cartilage (LLC) surgery, cephalic trimming poses risks for the collapse of the internal and external nasal valves, pinched nose, and drooping deformity. The cephalic lateral crural advancement (CLCA) technique presented herein was aimed at using a flap to increase nasal tip rotation and support the lateral crus, in addition to the internal and external nasal valves, by avoiding grafts without performing excision.
Methods This study included 32 patients (18 female and 14 male) and the follow-up period for patients having undergone primer open rhinoplasty was 12 months. The LLC was elevated from the vestibular skin using the CLCA flap. A cephalic incision was performed without cephalic trimming. Two independent flaps were formed while preserving the scroll ligament complex. The CLCA flap was advanced onto the lower lateral crus while leaving the scroll area intact. The obtained data were analyzed retrospectively.
Results The mean age of the patients was 31.6 years (range, 20–51 years). The Rhinoplasty Outcome Examination scores after 12 months varied from 90 to100 points, and 93% of patients reported perfect satisfaction. At a 1-year follow-up, the patients' nasal patency (visual analogue scale) rose from 4.56±1.53 (out of 10) to 9.0±0.65 (P<0.001).
Conclusions The CLCA flap led to better nasal tip definition by protecting the scroll area, increasing tip rotation, and supporting the internal and external nasal valves without cephalic excision.

The heavy metals are released into the environment due to the activities such as meeting the increasing demand for energy, industrial activities, and agricultural pesticides. In many studies, the heavy metals have been proven to have genotoxic effects. As a result of burning the lignite coal in thermal power plants, the heavy metals of Cr, Fe, Mn, Cu, Pb, Cd, Zn, and Ni are spread into the environment within the ashes. In the present study, the gene expression levels were examined on the corn and wheat plants added with 500-m interval around the thermic power plant. For this purpose, the genes from 14-3-3 protein family, expression level of which increases under abiotic stress conditions, were analyzed. For the expression levels of plants, the $2^{-{\Delta}{\Delta}C_t}$ values were calculated and then compared to $2^{-{\Delta}{\Delta}C_t}$ values of ${\beta}$-actin gene, that is, the housekeeping gene. The heavy metal content analyses of the samples were carried out using ICP-MS, and it was determined that there were many heavy metals at higher amounts within the structure of samples having low level of gene expression. It has been understood that heavy metal stress causes a difference in gene expression level. The change introduced by heavy metal stress into the gene expression occurs in concrete in the translation products. The level of stress-induced gene expression, which is caused by heavy metals in the environment surrounding the plant, has been successfully determined by RT-PCR.
COEFFICIENT BOUNDS FOR CLOSE-TO-CONVEX FUNCTIONS ASSOCIATED WITH VERTICAL STRIP DOMAIN
Bulut,,Serap Korean Mathematical Society 2020 대한수학회논문집 Vol.35 No.3
By considering a certain univalent function in the open unit disk 𝕌, that maps 𝕌 onto a strip domain, we introduce a new class of analytic and close-to-convex functions by means of a certain non-homogeneous Cauchy-Euler-type differential equation. We determine the coefficient bounds for functions in this new class. Relevant connections of some of the results obtained with those in earlier works are also provided.
CERTAIN PROPERTIES OF A NEW SUBCLASS OF ANALYTIC AND p-VALENTLY CLOSE-TO-CONVEX FUNCTIONS
BULUT,,Serap The Honam Mathematical Society 2017 호남수학학술지 Vol.39 No.2
In the present paper we introduce and investigate an interesting subclass ${\mathcal{K}}^{(k)}_s({\gamma},p) $ of analytic and p-valently close-to-convex functions in the open unit disk ${\mathbb{U}}$. For functions belonging to this class, we derive several properties as the inclusion relationships and distortion theorems. The various results presented here would generalize many known recent results.
Bulut,,Serap Department of Mathematics 2014 Kyungpook mathematical journal Vol.54 No.2
In the present investigation, by making use of the familiar concept of neighborhoods of analytic and multivalent functions, we prove several inclusion relations associated with the (n, ${\delta}$)-neighborhoods of certain subclasses of analytic functions of complex order, which are introduced here by means of the Al-Oboudi derivative. Several special cases of the main results are mentioned.
Saying 'No' in a Foreign Language : Can You Really Do It?
Bulut,,Dogan 대한언어학회 2003 언어학 Vol.11 No.3
The culture-specific features of language use are claimed to be particularly evident in speech acts. In this study, we investigated for possible differences between American English (AE), Turkish (TT) and Turkish English (TE) refusal performances in terms of the frequency and order of semantic formulas. Three groups of subjects participated in this study and this included Americans (for American English data), Turks (for Turkish data) and advanced level nonnative Turkish learners of English (for interlanguage data). A twelve-item DCT and its closed-role play version were used as the instruments, and the results were analyzed both qualitatively and quantitatively by using percentages and Spearman Rank Order Correlations. It was found that even though the most frequently used semantic formulas did not change across data types, the variation was higher in the oral data and responses were longer in all three groups. Another observation related to data type was the pattern of language use by the interlanguage group. The advanced level Turkish nonnative speakers of English resembled rather the target language patterns of language use in the written data while they relied rather on the native language norms in the oral responses, which may be attributable to the language education system and the amount of exposure to the written and oral norms in Turkey.
