Measurements of dynamic characteristics of intermediate layer in thin semiconductors.
Park, Buhm,Jeon, Eun Beom,Kim, Hak-Sung,Kang, Namcheol,Park, Junhong American Scientific Publishers 2013 Journal of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology Vol.13 No.12

A vibration test method for investigating the dynamic characteristics of thin multi-layered semiconductor wafers was proposed. Flash memory chips whose thickness was varied by grinding the wafers were used as specimens. The specimens composed of silicon, device, and device-protecting layers were excited at the clamped end by using a shaker attached to the clamping device. The vibration of the beam was measured using a laser vibrometer. The wave approach was used to analyze the vibration, from which the complex bending stiffness was determined. A theoretical model to obtain the dynamic characteristics (Young's modulus and the loss factor) of the intermediate device layer by using the measured bending stiffness was investigated. The results were examined and compared with those of a nanoindentation test to verify the accuracy of the model. The proposed method enabled determination of the dynamic properties of the intermediate layer without separation which are essential for understanding the impact response of the wafers during manufacturing process.

Rev. Kil Son-ju (1869-1935), often called the father of Korean Protestantism, was the most important leader of the famous Great Revival of 1907 and further revivals of subsequent years (up to 1935). Commemorating the fust centenary of the Great Revival, thts article examines how he helped Korean Protestant Christianity to take on a deftnitely revivahst and fundamentahst form. Having taken advantage of his rebous (especdy Sdndo) background, Kil emphasized fervent spiritual endeavor, as may be seen in both hs early writings: Haet'aron (Treatise on laziness) and Mansa songch'wi (Fulfhent of all dungs). Ths was necessary for him since he and early Korean Christians wanted to differentiate themselves from others through their spiritual endeavors. So Kil played a key role in establishing the tradition of sanyongboe (Bible study class) and saebyok kdoboe (day-break prayer meeting) and, what is more, in incorporating these two practices into pubringhoe (revival meeting), which spread like ddfue all over the Korean Peninsula. He was, however, preoccupied with inducing confession of sins in revival meetings, perhaps because it gave Korean Christians a deep and internal assurance that they had become true Christians. Kil along with other early Korean Christians, who wanted to have a strong assurance of their being true Christians, further sought an absolutized and dogmatic ground for their Christian truth, for which the fundamentahst doctrine of Biblical inerrancy was set up. In sum, Kil's revivahst, Biblicist theology, which was heightened by hs early theology of fervent spiritual endeavor and hs later sturdy denniahsm, naturally evolved into a fundamentahst theology, whch remains dominant in Korea even today.

This paper shows how the fund performance evaluation system influences the fund market and fund family behaviors. Evaluation-ship Bias is defined as the outperforming of evaluated funds over non-evaluated funds. Regarding the Evaluationship Bias, this study confirmed two things in empirical analysis of Korean equity funds. First, this paper verified that there was Evaluation-ship Bias in Korea, so fund families’ performances were over-estimated. Second, it is also found that fund families did favoritism to evaluated funds in management activities. Fund families were more attentive to EV performance and took strategic and risk-taking measures to improve its ratings. This paper suggests that another factor, the performance evaluation system itself, is what causes fund families to favor some funds. The existence of too high numbers of Korean funds is an example of this evaluation system bias. We can expect similar phenomena to occur in other countries as well. We also suggest that the introduction of GIPS will diminish the evaluation system bias and contribute to the development of the Korean fund market.

The study of institutions is a long tradition in the history of science, but the ways to study them have yet to be fully examined. This paper offers a critical review of major methodologies developed in the past five decades to investigate institutions and their builders in historical context, and introduces six cases that show the values and difficulties of institutional studies. Institutional history, I contend, is at the crossroads of intellectual history and social history. It thus has affected and been affected by historiographical developments in history of science, such as the internalist-externalist debates, the study of research schools and national styles of science, the rise of laboratory studies, and big science and big organizations.
