Plasma-Assisted Green Synthesis of ZnO Directly on Polyethylene Terephthalate Fabric

        Anja Verbič,Katja Brenčič,Gregor Primc,Miran Mozetič,Martin Šala,Marija Gorjanc 한국섬유공학회 2023 Fibers and polymers Vol.24 No.1

This article presents green in situ synthesis of ZnO directly on polyethylene terephthalate (PET) fabrics using pomegranatepeel extract. The surface of PET was activated by environmentally friendly oxygen plasma, and the process was comparedto alkali treatment where the extract of wood ash was used instead of classical chemicals. Sorption analysis showed that thehydrophilic character of the plasma-treated sample was much better than that of the alkali-treated and untreated samples. Both treatments slightly decreased the breaking strength and elongation of the fabric. Scanning electron microscopy, colourmeasurements, dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, and antioxidant activity investigations showed that the ZnO particles were successfullysynthesised on alkali- and plasma-treated PET. The liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry results showed thatellagic acid and punicalagin were the most abundant compounds in the pomegranate peel extract that enabled the synthesisof ZnO. The UV protection, amount of ZnO, and uniformity were the highest for the ZnO prepared on the PET samples bythe plasma-assisted green synthesis. Additional optical assessment of fabric porosity and thickness measurements confirmedthat these fabrics have excellent UV protection due to the presence of ZnO.

      • MARKET ORIENTATION IN EMERGING MARKETS: NEW PERSPECTIVES FROM INDUSTRIAL ORGANIZATION AND ECONOMIC SOCIOLOGY

        Matevž Rašković,Maria M. Smirnova,Vera Rebiazina,Maja Makovec Brenčič,Zhonghui Ding,Petra Došenović Bonča 글로벌지식마케팅경영학회 2014 Global Marketing Conference Vol.2014 No.11

We propose a conceptual model of MO in emerging markets by drawing on industrial organization and economic sociology, and outline factors which can better explain the determinant-strategy-performance relationships in emerging markets. We provide two country examples (Russia and China), and propose future research directions for our conceptual model.

      • CROSS-CULTURAL COMMUNICATION THROUGH FASHION AND BRAND CONSCIOUSNESS

        Gregor Pfajfar,Aviv Shoham,Nihat Anil,Ossi Pesämaa,Maja Makovec Brenčič 글로벌지식마케팅경영학회 2015 Global Fashion Management Conference Vol.2015 No.06

The global luxury market is relentlessly growing over the last few decades, defying the global economic crisis. It is estimated that the luxury market is made up by a continuously enlarging heterogeneous group of 330 to 380 million consumers worldwide. The consumption of luxuries goes beyond the riches and wealth of countries, as the highest luxury spenders are to be found in places like the Middle East, Japan, and China. Luxury goods’ penetration relatively to GDP is low in countries like Germany and the U.S. and high in Italy, France, and South Korea. Wealth and economics alone cannot explain the economics underlying luxury consumption; culture is an important driver of growth in this sector. Culture gives meaning to luxuries, affects the perceived value and motivations to buy luxury goods, and determines luxuries’ signaling power and potency as differentiators and identity signifiers. Today, despite the size, growth and geographical spread of the luxury goods market, cross-cultural research is limited and rather scattered in different fields. Much of the research undertaken draws from Hofstede’s typology of culture and focuses on a narrow range of conceptual issues. The purpose of this presentation is to review and summarize existing cross-cultural research on luxury products and to identify fruitful future research directions that will expand our understanding of luxury goods marketing. In addition, attention will be given to examining current trends and behaviors in the field

      • Applying Public Data on Students` Socio-economic Status for establishing and assuring the quality and equity of education

        ( Bren Matevz(phd) ),( Cebulj Nace(m. Sc. ) ),( Cankargasper(phd) ),( Zupanc Darko(phd) ) 한국품질경영학회 2015 한국품질경영학회 학술대회 Vol.2015 No.2

Purpose In countries all over the world, School Performance Feedback Systems (SPFSs) were implemented: ZEBO project in the Netherlands, Each school its own mirror in Belgium, RAISEonline in United Kingdom, CEM in England, Scotland, the Netherlands, Australia, New Zealand, and Hong Kong, etc. SPFSs are professional monitoring systems defined as external information systems that provide schools with confidential information on their performance and functioning as a basis for selfevaluation. With SPFSs and data driven selfevaluation the continuous Plan, Do, Check, Act (PDCA) cycle is implemented in everyday school teaching and learning practices. Assessing (checking) and variability analysis are key steps in a continuous PDCA process, as well as in further planning of establishing and assuring the quality of education at all levels. Method In collaboration with the National Examination Centre (Ric) and with the support of the Slovene Ministry of Education and Sport and the European Social Fund we developed the Assessment of/for Learning Analytic Tool (ALAT) - an online programme tool that enables teachers, headmasters and decisionmakers to access examination database to compare, analyse and interpret students’ achievements. In addition, the tool identifies trends and school’s value added. For its exact calculation, corrections for student’ socio-economic status (SES) are needed. There is widespread agreement in education effectiveness research (EER) that students’ SES has an important impact on students’ achievements. The “big three” components of students’ SES construct are family income, parental educational attainment, and parental occupational status. Assessing SES by means of questionnaires is unreliable (and impossible for all students’ population). Therefore, we aim to use existing data on family members, households, citizenship, nationality, education and assets gathered by the Statistical Office of the Republic of Slovenia (SURS). Based on these data, the SES index will be determined for all selected groups of students. Limitation/implication The linking of the data gathered by the SURS with the data gathered by the Ric will be of key importance, but will also have to be handled with great care because of sensitive personal information. The linkage of data on students should be done on a micro level, but on the other hand for measuring class or school equity and efficiency only aggregated data in a loose form are needed for a class or school: low, average, or high SES. Social implications and value of paper In our paper a preliminary study on SES index calculation will be presented based on pilot attempt to connect the two databases. The aim of our research project is to create a certificated computer programme that would connect the two (SURS and Ric) databases on the micro level and provide the output of the SES on the class and/or school level. Then classes and schools with low SES and average or even high students’ outcomes will be detached what will be of great benefit: The teaching and learning practices, ways of facing bullying, ways of improving teaching and learning environment etc. of these classes (teachers) and schools (headmasters) would then form exemplary good practices for all the others.

Rationality and Intervention in an Anarchic Society

( Bren Dan Howe ) 한국국방연구원 2006 The Korean Journal of Defense Analysis Vol.18 No.1

For realists, in the absence of effective collective security sanctions against transgressors, except what individual states themselves mete out, the "rational" policy is to pursue national interest without care to the costs that might be incurred by others, and to maximize one`s chances of achieving ends in the face of opposition through the pursuit of power. Collective production of goods (such as security) is therefore unlikely, and states must rely on "self-help" rather than allies or international organizations to define and defend their national interests. This would appear to be the underlying rationality of the supposed unilateralism of current U.S. foreign policy, and the foundation of the threat of renewed war on the Korean peninsula. However, the past hundred years have seen increasing levels of inter-governmental cooperation and collective action. States do not consistently seek to destroy or subdue each other, but rather most of them, most of the time, including even the most powerful and independent actors, demonstrate a rationality indicative of international societal constraints, and are conspicuously law-abiding. Thus, even in the context of a wider "War on Terror," U.S. decision-making regarding North Korea is still likely to reflect the concerns of allies, enemies, and internal and external constituencies, rather than purely being the product of a rational cost-benefit analysis of a hierarchy of preferred outcomes. This paper will explain why, in realist terms, states and their leaders appear to be acting so irrationally.

      • Galvanostatic co-electrodeposition of Cu and Pd as catalyst for reduction of nitrates in water

( Alfred Madzamuse ),( Bren Mark Felisilda ),이해수,( Latifatu Mohammed ),고장면 한국공업화학회 2015 한국공업화학회 연구논문 초록집 Vol.2015 No.0

The galvanostatic co-electrodeposition of copper and palladium from 8mM CuCl2 and 5mM PdCl2 in 0.5M HNO3 is studied using cyclic voltammetry and linear sweep voltammetry. The optimized current density for co-electrodeposition is found to beat 7mA/cm2 for 7200 seconds. The prepared electro catalyst showed promising efficiency of reducing nitrates in water at an average of 95-98% reduction from an original 100ppm concentration. This was after applying the optimized reduction current density at 12mA/cm2 for 10800seconds. SEM images reveal the surface deposits to be amorphous and with cauliflower-like structures. This indicates the catalyst as a good alternative for electrocatalys is applications. With added electrolytes, the reduction efficiency of the catalyst was enhanced by 2-3%. Soaking the prepared electrodes in tap water for 14 weeks caused possible detrimental effects on its nitrate reduction efficiency.

Development of Cr cold spray – coated fuel cladding with enhanced accident tolerance

        Martin Seve cek,Anil Gurgen,Arunkumar Seshadri,Yifeng Che,Malik Wagih,Bren Phillips,Victor Champagne,Koroush Shirvan 한국원자력학회 2018 Nuclear Engineering and Technology Vol.50 No.2

Accident-tolerant fuels (ATFs) are currently of high interest to researchers in the nuclear industry and ingovernmental and international organizations. One widely studied accident-tolerant fuel concept ismultilayer cladding (also known as coated cladding). This concept is based on a traditional Zr-based alloy(Zircaloy-4, M5, E110, ZIRLO etc.) serving as a substrate. Different protective materials are applied to thesubstrate surface by various techniques, thus enhancing the accident tolerance of the fuel. This studyfocuses on the results of testing of Zircaloy-4 coated with pure chromium metal using the cold spray (CS)technique. In comparison with other deposition methods, e.g., Physical vapor deposition (PVD), lasercoating, or Chemical vapor deposition techniques (CVD), the CS technique is more cost efficient due tolower energy consumption and high deposition rates, making it more suitable for industry-scale production. The Cr-coated samples were tested at different conditions (500 C steam, 1200 C steam, andPressurized water reactor (PWR) pressurization test) and were precharacterized and postcharacterizedby various techniques, such as scanning electron microscopy, Energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy(EDX), or nanoindentation; results are discussed. Results of the steady-state fuel performance simulationsusing the Bison code predicted the concept's feasibility. It is concluded that CS Cr coating has highpotential benefits but requires further optimization and out-of-pile and in-pile testing
