        Assessment of speckle image through particle size and image sharpness

        In digital image correlation, speckle image is closely related to the measurement accuracy. A practical global evaluation criterion for speckle image is presented. Firstly, based on the essential factors of the texture image, both the average particle size and image sharpness are used for the assessment of speckle image. The former is calculated by a simplified auto-covariance function and Gaussian fitting, and the latter by focusing function. Secondly, the computation of the average particle size and image sharpness is verified by numerical simulation. The influence of these two evaluation parameters on mean deviation and standard deviation is discussed. Then, a physical model from speckle projection to image acquisition is established. The two evaluation parameters can be mapped to the physical devices, which demonstrate that the proposed evaluation method is reasonable. Finally, the engineering application of the evaluation method is pointed out.

        Balancing or Bandwagoning?

        비강대국이 외부적 위협에 대해 균형동맹을 형성하는지 아니면 편승동맹에 참여하는지 여부는 국제관계에서 오랫동안 논쟁이 되어온 이슈이다. 본 연구는 월트(Walt)의 균형동맹 우위 이론을 3-7세기 동북아시아에서 상대적으로 약소국이었던 백제, 신라의 동맹패턴에 적용하여 그 적실성을 찾아보고자 한다. 본 연구의 사례는 상대적 약소국들 조차도 편승동맹보다는 균형동맹을 선호한 것을 보여주어 월트의 이론을 검증한 것으로 사료된다. 이러한 결론은 21세기 동아시아에도 함의를 줄 수 있는데, 특히 가장 논란이 많은 이슈인 급속히 부상하는 중국에 대한 대응과 관련하여 참고해 볼 수 있겠다. 또한 상대적 중견국이었던 백제의 사례는 현재 지역 중견국 지위에 있는 한국에게 해상외교 네트워크 건설을 통해 한국의 국력보다 더한 영향력 행사가 가능하다는 교훈을 보여주고 있다. Mid-and small-sized countries have to choose between balancing and bandwagoning for national survival when faced with a dominant threat, which has long been an object of controversy in the IR field. When Stephen Walt"s balancing dominance theory is applied to alliance formations of two ancient Korean kingdoms, Baekje and Silla, who were relatively weaker than their neighbors, during the period between 3rd-7th centuries in Northeast Asia, the empirical investigation attested favorably for Walt that balancing outnumbered bandwagoning, except a few instances. The cases seem to prove that even weaker states prefer balancing to bandwagoning because the latter does not effectively guarantee security of the weaker state. This conclusion could carry useful policy implications for the 21st century in East Asia. As in the case of ancient Northeast Asia, Korea or other countries in the region may choose balancing against a rising China. Yet further analyses of alliance patterns in different time periods in the region would provide a more accurate picture for the future. In addition, as Baekje’s example shows, for a middle-power state like Korea surrounded by powerful states to exert more influence than its actual capability permits, it may be valuable to build a robust maritime diplomatic network under certain circumstances.

        Differential Expression of miR-34c and Its Predicted Target Genes in Testicular Tissue at Different Development Stages of Swine

        To verified the target genes of miR-34c, bioinformatics software was used to predict the targets of miR-34c. Three possible target genes of miR-34c related to spermatogenesis and male reproductive development: zinc finger protein 148 (ZNF148), kruppel-like factor 4 (KLF4), and platelet-derived growth factor receptor alpha (PDGFRA) were predicted. Then, the expression of miR-34c and its target genes were detected in swine testicular tissue at different developmental stages by quantitative polymerase chain reaction. The results suggested that the expression of PDGFRA has the highest negative correlation with miR-34c. Then immunohistochemical staining was done to observe the morphology of swine testicular tissue at 2-days and 3, 4, 5-months of age, which indicated that PDGFRA was mainly expressed in the support cells near the basement membrane during the early development stages of testicular tissue, but that the expression of PDGFRA was gradually reduced in later stages. Therefore, western blot analyzed that the highest expression of PDGFRA was generated in 2-days old testicular tissues and the expression levels reduced at 3 and 4-months old, which correlated with the results of immunohistochemical staining. In conclusion, PDGFRA is a target gene of miR-34c.

        miR-375 down-regulation of the rearranged L-myc fusion and hypoxia-induced gene domain protein 1A genes and effects on Sertoli cell proliferation

        Objective: This study aimed to screen and identify the target genes of miR-375 in pig Sertoli (ST) cells and to elucidate the effect of miR-375 on the proliferation of ST cells. Methods: In this study, bioinformatics software was used to predict and verify miR-375 target genes. Quantitative polymerase chain reaction (PCR) was used to detect the relationship between miR-375 and its target genes in ST cells. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) of rearranged L-myc fusion (RLF) and hypoxia-induced gene domain protein 1A (HIGD1A) was performed on porcine ST cells, which were transfected with a miR-375 mimics and inhibitor to verify the results. Dual luciferase reporter gene assays were performed to assess the interactions among miR-375, RLF, and HIGD1A. The effect of miR-375 on the proliferation of ST cells was analyzed by CellTiter 96 AQueous One Solution Cell Proliferation Assay (MTS). Results: Five possible target genes of miR-375, including RLF, HIGD1A, colorectal cancer associated 2, POU class 3 homeobox 1, and WW domain binding protein 1 like, were found. The results of quantitative PCR suggested that mRNA expression of RLF and HIGD1A had a negative correlation with miR-375, indicating that RLF and HIGD1A are likely the target genes of miR-375. The ELISA results revealed that RLF and HIGD1A were negatively correlated with the miR-375 protein level. The luminescence results for the miR-375 group cotransfected with wild-type RLF and HIGD1A vector were significantly lower than those of the miR-375 group co-transfected with the blank vector or mutant RLF and HIGD1A vectors. The present findings suggest that RLF and HIGD1A are target genes of miR-375 and that miR-375 inhibits ST cell proliferation according to MTS analysis. Conclusion: It was speculated that miR-375 affects cell proliferation through its target genes, which play an important role in the development of testicular tissue.

        RNA binding protein QKI contributes to WT1 mRNA and suppresses apoptosis in ST cells

        The RNA binding protein quaking (QKI), a key member of the STAR family, as an upstream gene could involve in much process including cell proliferation, apoptosis, differentiation and so on. However, the roles of QKI in germ cell, especially in swine testis (ST) cells, was not clear currently. And apoptosis plays important roles in the growth and development. The purpose of the present study was to clarify the relationship between QKI and apoptosis in ST cells. Firstly, our results showed that pEF1α- QKI and shQKI3 have clear effects on expression levels of QKI. Secondly, we established that QKI directly binds to WT1 3′UTR by binding with QRE-1 (2046–2052 bp, ACT AAC ) only. Furthermore, QKI overexpression significantly increased the expression levels of WT1 and Bcl-2. QKI also has the effect on delaying the degradation of WT1 mRNA. In addition, we verified that QKI had a significantly suppressed apoptosis in ST cells. Finally, pBI-WT1 could make up for shQKI3-induced decrease in WT1, Bcl-2 mRNA levels and suppress apoptosis in ST cells. The results demonstrated that QKI was an important regulatory factor that affects apoptosis by targeting WT1 gene.

        Many problems such as rationalization of anatomic dynamics, stability of attitude, angle at shotting, for mings for testing of physical technique in the research this time, though the modern shot-put has become scientific day by day, have been found. The research on the record measurement of girls' high school & general team of women for the 1st test of physical technique & strength is as follows; 1.The best record in the first test of technique of the girls' high school is 11M, while the lowest record is 8. 9M in the 5th testinng. 2.The general team of women comparatively to girls', high school showed gradual increase comparing with 9.15M in the first test, and in the 6th, final test, 11.69M came out, showing a remarkable difference with final record. 3.The general record each on girls' high school and general team of women showed the best record in the fourth test, with 10.88M. 4.Even in the standard deviation, it showed the most ideal record in the 4th time.

        Embodied (non)Participation in a Tutoring Session

        Catherine DiFelice Box(2012), "Embodied (non)Participation in a Tutoring Session," Language & Information Society 16. Non-verbal conduct in unfolding interactions has proven to be fertile ground for scholarly research. Like talk, gaze, gesture, and body positioning have found to be highly structured, analyzable phenomena (Goodwin 1980, 1995, 2000, 2002, Kendon, 1967, 1992, 1997, McNeill 1992, 2005, Schegloff 1984). While some researchers have examined nonverbal behavior, particularly gesture, in educational contexts (Goldin-Meadow, 2000, Goldin-Meadow et al. 2001, Goodwin 2007, McCafferty 1998, Mori & Hatsegawa 2009), relatively little attention has been paid to the body as it indexes student participation. In this study, several mathematics tutoring sessions between a teacher and a five-year old preschool student were videotaped, transcribed and analyzed using CA methodology. A close examination of the student`s non-verbal conduct revealed that participation is often embodied through gesture, gaze, and body positioning, rather than verbalized through words. In addition, it will be argued that the orientation of the non-verbal behavior with regard to the shared student-teacher space can signal engagement in, or resistance to, the activities at hand.
