Bohye Kim(김보혜) 한국고분자학회 2021 한국고분자학회 학술대회 연구논문 초록집 Vol.46 No.1
Among the various existing energy storage technologies, electrochemical capacitors are promising power sources for portable electronic systems and automotive applications, due to their high power density and long life-time. Novel electrospun nanofibers with functional properties can dramatically alter surface reaction rates and charge transport throughout the batteries, causing significant improvement in energy storage efficiency. The design of electrospun nanofiber materials for alternative energy systems is, therefore, a way to develop next-generation energy storage system for a healthy future. Here, we present our work on the development of advanced carbon-based nanofiber electrodes and the integration of these materials into electrochemical capacitors and lithium ion battery with high energy and high power density to achieve high system performance.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to develop a situation-specific theory to explain the disease management experience of patients with asthma. Methods: Twenty participants with asthma were selected using the theoretical sampling method. The data were acquired through in-depth interviews conducted from June to October 2018 and analyzed using the grounded theory approach of Strauss and Corbin. Results: In total, 69 concepts, 30 subcategories, and 13 categories were generated to explain the disease management experience of patients with asthma. The core category of the disease management experience of patients with asthma was ‘management of the disease to prevent aggravation of symptoms over the lifetime’. The disease management process of asthma patients included three steps: the ‘cognition phase’, the ‘adjustment phase’, and the ‘maintenance phase’. However, some patients remained in the ‘stagnation phase’ of disease management, which represents the result of the continual pursuit of risky health behavior. There were three types of disease management experiences among patients with asthma: ‘self-managing’, ‘partially self-managing’, and ‘avoidant’. Conclusion: This study shows that patients with asthma must lead their disease management process to prevent exacerbation of their symptoms. It is imperative to develop nursing strategies and establish policies for effective disease management of patients with asthma based on their individual disease management processes and types.

As buildings and its facilities are going to be larger and more complex, the BAS (Building Automation Systems) is fundamental to facilities operation, control and maintenance of large-scaled building. Most of the existing BAS covered only limited roles such as building systems monitoring and control, and do not put to practical use for building energy management by using its integrated operation. Each building system (HVAC system, heating system, electric system etc.) is often planned and installed separately, and then it would be worked inefficiently from the side of building energy management. In this research, we aim at developing 3 elements for building energy management systems (Dynamic linkage module for an integrated building operation system, BEEMS, BGESS). In this paper we introduce basic scheme of user-oriented interfaces for SEEMS and BGESS and propose the functions of the linkage module between integrated building operation systems.

The stomach has emerged as a crucial endocrine organ in the regulation of feeding since the discovery of ghrelin. Gut-derived hormones, such as ghrelin and cholecystokinin, can act through the vagus nerve. We previously reported the satiety effect of hypothalamic clusterin, but the impact of peripheral clusterin remains unknown. In this study, we administered clusterin intraperitoneally to mice and observed its ability to suppress fasting-driven food intake. Interestingly, we found its synergism with cholecystokinin and antagonism with ghrelin. These effects were accompanied by increased c-fos immunoreactivity in nucleus tractus solitarius, area postrema, and hypothalamic paraventricular nucleus. Notably, truncal vagotomy abolished this response. The stomach expressed clusterin at high levels among the organs, and gastric clusterin was detected in specific enteroendocrine cells and the submucosal plexus. Gastric clusterin expression decreased after fasting but recovered after 2 hours of refeeding. Furthermore, we confirmed that stomachspecific overexpression of clusterin reduced food intake after overnight fasting. These results suggest that gastric clusterin may function as a gut-derived peptide involved in the regulation of feeding through the gut-brain axis. [BMB Reports 2024; 57(3): 149-154]

Probiotics can be processed into a powder, tablet, or capsule form for easy intake. They are exposed to frequent stresses not only during complex processing steps, but also in the human body after intake. For this reason, various coating agents that promote probiotic bacterial stability in the intestinal environment have been developed. Silk fibroin (SF) is a material used in a variety of fields from drug delivery systems to enzyme immobilization and has potential as a coating agent for probiotics. In this study, we investigated this potential by coating probiotic strains with 0.1% or 1% water-soluble calcium (WSC), 1% SF, and 10% trehalose. Under simulated gastrointestinal conditions, cell viability, cell surface hydrophobicity, and cell adhesion to intestinal epithelial cells were then measured. The survival ratio after freeze-drying was highest upon addition of 0.1% WSC. The probiotic bacteria coated with SF showed improved survival by more than 10.0% under simulated gastric conditions and 4.8% under simulated intestinal conditions. Moreover, the cell adhesion to intestinal epithelial cells was elevated by 1.0-36.0%. Our results indicate that SF has positive effects on enhancing the survival and adhesion capacity of bacterial strains under environmental stresses, thus demonstrating its potential as a suitable coating agent to stabilize probiotics throughout processing, packaging, storage and consumption.

Enterolith is a rare complication of Billroth II gastrectomy, and most cases of enteroliths have been reported in association with the diverticula, tuberculosis, and Crohn`s disease of small bowel. We report a case of a patient in whom a large enterolith developed in the duodenal stump ensuing CBD obstruction and cholangitis, necessitating surgery. A 77-year-old Asian woman visited a local hospital for poor oral intake, general weakness and epigastric discomfort. The patient has undergone Billroth II subtotal gastrectomy for stomach cancer 14 years ago. At presentation, physical examination revealed tenderness on epigastric area. Laboratory tests showed an elevated ESR, CRP, procalcitonin and biliary stasis (total bilirubin 1.87mg/dL, AST/ALT: 12/69 IU/L. ALP: 1443IU/L, γ-GTP: 340 U/L). On the abdominal CT showed mild IHD and CBD dilatation upto 12mm due to distal CBD obstruction by compacted a 48mm sized, calcifi ed and large stone at duodenal stump(Fig.1). For decompression, percutaneous transhepatic cholecystostomy catheter was inserted under ultra-sonography and fluoroscopy guidance on the second hospital day. On tubogram in contrast to fi lling defects in gall bladder suggesting GB stone, cystic duct and CBD were patent. However, there was no visible contrast passage to the duodenum. Laparoscopic removal of the enterolith which located in the duodenum, not in the diverticulum was performed on the 9th hospital day (Fig.2). No intestinal obstruction was found during the operation. While the GB stones were black, small and multiple, about a 5cm-sized large brownish stone was found in the duodenum(Fig.3). Without any signifi cant complication, the patient was discharged 11 days after the operation. To the best of our knowledge, this is the fi rst case report of cholangitis occurred directly by a single large stone at a duodenal stump, not secondary to afferent loop obstruction nor by a biliary stone.
