      • A SURVEY OF FAULT DIAGNOSIS EXPERT SYSTEMS

        The conception and development of more or less automatic diagnosis system is a costly, complex, but necessary undertaking. Expert systems endeavour to reduce development time for diagnosis tools by proposing general schemes. On the basis of discussing the concepts and methods of expert systems and fault diagnosis, this paper analyzes the development of current diagnosis expert systems and provides an overview of their main characteristics, their underlying principles, their limits, and our overall opinion of them. It also discusses a method in design and implementation of a rule-based diagnosis and maintenance expert system.

        This paper proposes three kinds of gait for HT-II Quadruped Walking Robot. In order that HT-II Quadruped Walking Robot is able to walk stably on ground, a software is developed which consists of three parts; gait-table produce programe ; gait-table check programe and joint drive programe. These three kinds of gait form the basis for further studying of fusing of static and dynamic gaits.

        Protective Effect of Baicalin against Multiple Ultraviolet B Exposure-mediated Injuries in C57BL/6 Mouse Skin

        Multiple exposures to solar ultraviolet (UV) radiation cause critical damage to skin that may lead to the development of several cutaneous disorders including skin cancer. Protection against sun-induced damage is therefore a highly desirable goal. Chemoprevention via plantbased agents may be a useful approach for the prevention? of UV-induced neoplasia. In this study, we assessed (1) whether baicalin protected against multiple UVB exposure-mediated damage in skin of C57BL/6 mice and (2) the underlying mechanisms. C57BL/6 mice were topically pretreated with baicalin (1 mg/cm^2 skin area/mouse/100 μL acetone) and were exposed to UVB 30 min later (180 mJ/cm^2, on alternate days × 10 exposures). The animals were sacrificed 24 h after the last UVB exposure. Skin edema, histopathology changes, Ki-67, PCNA, and COX-2 were assessed to determine UVB induced damage. Multiple exposures of C57BL/6 mice to UVB resulted in an increase in skin edema and hyperplasia. Topical application of baicalin prior to UVB radiation resulted in a significant inhibition of Ki-67, PCNA and COX-2 expression. These protective effects of baicalin may also inhibit UVB-induced skin carcinogenesis. Based on this data, we suggest that baicalin could be developed as an agent for the management of conditions elicited by multiple UV exposures, including skin cancer.

        An Evaluation of Free Trade Port Zone in Taiwan

        This study focused on the development of FTPZs in Taiwan and examined factors influencing business activities in FTPZs and their degree of importance for improving the operational environment in FTPZs. A performance assessment of companies since operating their businesses in FTPZs was also undertaken. Data for the study were obtained from a questionnaire survey distributed to MNCs operating in FTPZs in Taiwan. The importance-performance analysis (IPA) technique was employed to analyse the survey results. Five factors were found to have a high degree of importance for business operations in FTPZs: government administration efficiency, cheap rates and charges, simplified customs procedures, clear regulations, and free tax incentives. Further, results indicated that firms in FTPZ had increased their performance in terms of reputation, investment, customer satisfaction, and revenue. The study provides insight into the evaluation and policy suggestions of FTPZ for government in Taiwan.

        A Novel Method of Reducing the Cogging Torque in SPM Machine with Segmented Stator

        The method of stator segmentation is generally taken to enhance the electromagnetic performance of surface-mounted permanent magnet (SPM) machine and reduce its production cost. Based on the model with single slot, the expressions of cogging torque in machine with uniform or non-uniform segmentations are deduced and the optimal combination is given. Moreover, this paper discusses a structured skewing method and put forward a novel stator structure model to reduce the cogging torque in segmented permanent magnet machine. The model can reduce the cogging torque amplitude by shifting a proper angle of slot-opening. The shifting angle formula for analysis can also be suitable for other permanent machine with segmented stator. Finally the results of finite element simulation are given to prove that the method is effective and feasible.

        Structure and Properties of Polyimide (BTDA-TDI/MDI co-polyimide) Fibers Obtained by Wet-Spinning

        BTDA-TDI/MDI (P84, synthesized by the condensation of 2,4-diisocyanato-1-methylbenzene and 1,1' -methylenebis(4-isocyanatobenzene) with 5,5'-carbonylbis(l,3-isobenzofurandione)) co-polyimide fibers were prepared by wet-spinning. The basic spinning conditions were found from the studies of dope viscosity, ternary phase diagrams, coagulation value, and precipitation value. The effect of the coagulation bath composition on the morphology of as-spun fibers was investigated and a theoretical approach was used to understand the coagulation phenomena. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) showed that the cross-sectional shape of the fiber deviated more from an ellipse shape with the increasement of N-methyl-2-pyrrdidinone (NMP) content. The surface and cross section morphology of the as-spun fibers was also analyzed by the rate of diffusion and phase separation. The as-spun fibers were treated in heating tubes without drawing at different temperatures. The gravimetric analysis spectra showed that the BTDA-TDI/MDI co-polyimide fibers, which had been heat treated at 350 and 400 ℃, possessed better thermal properties than the as-spun fibers, a large weight loss was observed only above 550 ℃. Heat treatment of the fibers resulted in relatively high tensile strength and modulus. The fibers spun in Bath C (70/30, NMP/water, wt/wt)and Bath D (80/20, NMP/water, wt/wt) showed better thermal properties and higher tensile strength.

      • Meta-analysis of Seven Randomized Control Trials to Assess the Efficacy and Toxicity of Combining EGFR-TKI with Chemotherapy for Patients with Advanced NSCLC who Failed First-Line Treatment

        Background: Some recent clinical trials have been conducted to evaluate a combination of EGFR- TKI with chemotherapy for advanced NSCLC patients as second-line therapy, but the results on the efficacy of such trials are inconsistent. The aim of this meta-analysis was to evaluate the efficacy and safety of combination of EGFR-TKI and chemotherapy for patients with advanced NSCLC who failed first-line treatment. Materials and Methods: We searched relative trials from PubMed, EMBASE, ASCO Abstracts, ESMO Abstracts, Cochrane Library and Clinical Trials.gov. Outcomes analyzed were overall response rate (ORR), progression- free survival (PFS), overall survival (OS) and major toxicity. Results: Seven trails eventually were included in this meta-analysis, covering 1,168 patients. The results showed that the combined regimen arm had a significant higher ORR (RR 1.76 [1.16, 2.66], p=0.007) and longer PFS (HR 0.75 [0.66-0.85], p<0.00001), but failed to show effects on OS (HR 0.88 [0.68-1.15], p=0.36). In terms of subgroup results, continuation of EGFR-TKI in addition to chemotherapy after first-line EGFR-TKI resistance confered no improvement in ORR (RR 0.95 [0.68, 1.33], p=0.75) and PFS (HR 0.89[0.69, 1.15], p=0.38), and OS was even shorter (HR1.52 [1.05-2.21], p=0.03). However, combination therapy with EGFR-TKI and chemotherapy after failure of first-line chemotherapy significantly improved the ORR (RR 2.06 [1.42, 2.99], p=0.0002), PFS (HR 0.71 [0.61, 0.82], p<0.00001) and OS (HR 0.74 [0.62-0.88], p=0.0008), clinical benefit being restricted to combining EGFR-TKI with pemetrexed, but not docetaxel. Grade 3-4 toxicity was found at significantly higher incidence in the combined regimen arm. Conclusions: Continuation of EGFR-TKI in addition to chemotherapy after first-line EGFR-TKI resistance should be avoided. Combination therapy of EGFR-TKI and pemetrexed for advanced NSCLC should be further investigated for prognostic and predictive factors to find the group with the highest benefit of the combination strategy.

      • Genetic Structure Among Populations of Elymus burchan-buddae and E. nutans (Triticeae; Poaceae) from the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau

        Genetic structure of 22 populations of two self-pollinating pasture species, Elymus nutans and E. burchan-buddae collected from various altitudes of the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau was studied using fluorescence-based amplified fragment length polymorphism technique. Analysis of molecular variance revealed 42.97% and 37.63% among-population variation for the two Elymus species, respectively, indicating that the majority of the total variation presented within populations. This result contradicts the common genetic variation pattern for a selfing plant species: lower generic variation within populations. STRUCTURE analyses of the Elymus populations indicated an evident admixture genetic structure, particularly among neighboring populations from the same region, supporting the hypothesis of considerable seed dispersal among populations. The among-population gene flow promulgated by grazing animals may promote the maintenance of genetic diversity in the pasture species, particularly in small and fragmented populations within a given region.
