A new block assembly method for shipbuilding at sea

Bilin Zhang,부승환,김진균 국제구조공학회 2015 Structural Engineering and Mechanics, An Int'l Jou Vol.54 No.5

In this paper, we introduce a new method for assembly of shipbuilding blocks at sea and present its feasibility focusing on structural safety. The core concept of this method is to assemble ship building blocks by use of bolting, gluing and welding techniques at sea without dock facilities. Due to its independence of dock facilities, shipyard construction capability could be increased considerably by the proposed method. To show the structural safety of this method, a bulk carrier and an oil tanker were employed, and we investigated the structural behavior of those ships to which the new block assembly method was applied. The ship hull models attached with connective parts are analyzed in detail through finite element analyses, and the cargo capacity of the bulk carrier is briefly discussed as well. The results of these studies show the potential for applying this new block assembly method to practical shipbuilding.

Complete chloroplast genome sequence and phylogenetic analysis of Rhododendron molle G. Don, an endangered Ericaceae species located on Dabie Mountains (central China)

        Xu Bilin,Li Zhiliang,Liu Yan,Zhang Wanjing,Yu Jiaojun,Dong Hongjin,Zhang Jialiang,Wang Shuzhen 한국식물생명공학회 2023 Plant biotechnology reports Vol.17 No.2

Rhododendron molle G. Don, an endemic species of the Ericaceae family, possesses valuable medicinal and horticultural values. In this research, R. molle cp genome proved to be a typical quadripartite structure with the length of 200,878 bp. In particular, the lengths of large single-copy region (LSC), small single-copy region (SSC), and inverted repeat regions (IR) were 198,019 bp, 629 bp, and 1117 bp, respectively. Among the 149 unique genes, 97 were protein-coding genes, 44 were tRNA genes, and 8 were rRNA genes, respectively. Leucine was the most representative amino acid (10.663%), while Cysteine was the lowest representative (1.178%). A set of 30 codons showed obvious codon usage bias, while 29 were A/U-ending codons. Six gene regions showed high levels of nucleotide diversity (Pi > 0.02). Totally, 273 SSRs were identified. Maximum-likelihood (ML) phylogenetic analysis revealed that R. molle was relatively closed to the R. pulchrum and R. delavayi. High similarity was detected among Ericaceae species, and the coding regions were more conserved than the non-coding regions. Expansion and contraction detected in IR region could be the main length variation in R. molle and related Ericaceae species. This research will supply rich genetic resource for R. molle and related species of Ericaceae.

Determination of Loperamide in Mdr1a/1b Knock-out Mouse Brain Tissue Using Matrix-Assisted Laser Desorption/Ionization Mass Spectrometry and Comparison with Quantitative Electrospray-Triple Quadrupole Mass Spectrometry Analysis

        SHINYOUNG GEUN,Teresa Dong,Bilin Chou,Kapil Menghrajani 대한약학회 2011 Archives of Pharmacal Research Vol.34 No.11

Recently matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization mass spectrometry (MALDI MS) imaging has been used to analyze small molecule pharmaceutical compounds directly on tissue sections to determine spatial distribution within target tissue and organs. The data presented to date usually indicate relative amounts of drug within the tissue. The determination of absolute amounts is still done using tissue homogenization followed by traditional liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). In this study, the quantitative determination of loperamide, an antidiarrheal agent and a P-glycoprotein substrate, in mdr1a/1b (-/-) mouse brain tissue sections using MALDI MS on a quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry is described. 5 mg/mL α-cyano-4-hydroxycinnamic acid in 50% acetonitrile with 0.1% trifluoroacetic acid and 0.5 μM reserpine was used as the MALDI matrix. The calibration curve constructed by the peak intensities of standard samples from MALDI MS was linear from 0.025 to 0.5 μM with r2 = 0.9989. The accuracy of calibration curve standards was 78.3-105.9% and the percent deviation was less than 25%. Comparison between direct MALDI tissue analysis and conventional tissue analysis using homogenization followed by electrospray LC-MS/MS was also explored.

COLLISION AVOIDANCE OF LOW SPEED AUTONOMOUS SHUTTLES WITH PEDESTRIANS

Sukru Yaren Gelbal,Bilin Aksun-Guvenc,Levent Guvenc 한국자동차공학회 2020 International journal of automotive technology Vol.21 No.4

This paper is on a pedestrian collision avoidance system for low speed autonomous shuttles based on Vehicle-to-Pedestrian (V2P) communication. When pedestrians cannot be detected using line-of-sight sensors like camera, radar and LIDAR, V2P communication with the Dedicated Short Range Communication (DSRC) enabled pedestrian smartphone is used to detect and localize them through the in-vehicle DSRC radio used for Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) communication. The vehicle, then, either stops or, if possible, goes around the pedestrian in a socially acceptable manner using the elastic band method for locally modifying the vehicle trajectory in real time. The elastic band method of collision avoidance is modified for fast real time execution in this paper. Along with model-in-the-loop simulations, a hardware-in-the-loop simulator using an automated driving vehicle model in the high fidelity vehicle dynamics simulation program Carsim Real Time with Sensors and Traffic with two DSRC modems emulating the vehicle and pedestrian communications is introduced and used in this paper as a prerequisite to real world experiments. Both stationary and moving pedestrians are considered in the model and hardware-in-the-loop simulations. Two real world experiments are also presented to demonstrate the V2P based avoidance of crashes between low speed autonomous shuttles and pedestrians.

Multi-objective parameter space approach based controller and add-on disturbance observer design

Mümin Tolga Emirler,Bilin Aksun Güvenç 대한기계학회 2017 JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Vol.31 No.9

The parameter space approach based robust PI control design methodology for DC motor speed control is proposed in this paper. The multi-objective design requirements like D-stability, phase margin and mixed sensitivity (frequency domain) bounds are mapped into the controller parameter space to determine PI controller coefficients which satisfies the desired user-defined specifications. Besides robust PI controller, an add-on disturbance observer is utilized to enhance the tracking performance and disturbance rejection of the control system. The proposed control scheme is validated by simulations and experiments. The results prove that the effectiveness of the proposed control system against uncertainties in the modeling and disturbances on the system response.

DESIGN AND EVALUATION OF ROBUST COOPERATIVE ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL SYSTEMS IN PARAMETER SPACE

Mümin Tolga Emirler,Levent Güvenç,Bilin Aksun Güvenç 한국자동차공학회 2018 International journal of automotive technology Vol.19 No.2

This paper is on the design of cooperative adaptive cruise control systems for automated driving of platoons of vehicles in the longitudinal direction. Longitudinal models of vehicles with simple dynamics, an uncertain first order time constant and vehicle to vehicle communication with a communication delay are used in the vehicle modeling. A robust parameter space approach is developed and applied to the design of the cooperative adaptive cruise control system. D-stability is chosen as the robust performance goal and the feedback PD controller is designed in controller parameter space to achieve this D-stability goal for a range of possible longitudinal dynamics time constants and different values of time gap. Preceding vehicle acceleration is sent to the ego vehicle using vehicle to vehicle communication and a feedforward controller is used in this inter-vehicle loop to improve performance. Simulation results of an eight vehicle platoon of heterogeneous vehicles are presented and evaluated to demonstrate the efficiency of the proposed design method. Also, the proposed method is compared with a benchmark controller and the feedback only controller. Time gap regulation and string stability are used to assess performance and the effect of the vehicle to vehicle communication frequency on control system performance is also investigated.

Label-free Microarray-based Binding Affinity Constant Measurement with Modified Fluidic Arrangement

        junwei Hu,Ru Chen,Chenggang Zhu,Bilin Ge,Xiangdong Zhu,Lan Mi,Jiong Ma,Caiqin Han,Hao Chen,Yiyan Fei 한국바이오칩학회 2018 BioChip Journal Vol.12 No.1

The oblique-incidence reflectivity difference (OI-RD) scanning microscopy has the capability of simultaneously measuring binding curves of a protein probe with tens of thousands molecular targets in a microarray and yielding reaction rate constants. However, the quality of reaction rate constants is influenced by the fluidic system. To improve the quality of reaction rate constant measurement over the entire microarray, we demonstrate a fluidic chamber that allows the fluid to flow from the bottom to the top uniformly across the microarray and thus provides more uniform and accurate measurements of reaction rate constants with simplified fluidic design.

Optimization Design of the Decentralized Multi-Vehicle Cooperative Controller for Freeway Ramp Entrance

        Wang Jiawei,Ma Fangwu,Yu Yang,Zhu Sheng,Gelbal Sukru Yaren,Aksun-Guvenc Bilin,Guvenc Levent 한국자동차공학회 2021 International journal of automotive technology Vol.22 No.3

This research presents a multi-vehicle control strategy combining the merging control and platoon control to deal with the merging scenario in the freeway ramp entrance. In the merging controller, a selection algorithm is presented firstly to determine the merging sequence based on the initial states of the vehicles in the cooperative area. Subsequently, the optimized longitudinal trajectory of the facilitating vehicle and on-ramp vehicle is addressed by solving the Hamiltonian function. As for the platoon controller, string stability is analyzed to attenuate the impact of merging on the mainline traffic, considering the influence of communication time delay. Smooth mode switching is achieved by introducing the tracking policy of platoon controller to determine the terminal states of the facilitating vehicle. The proposed strategy is simulated at two typical merging scenarios, where two on-ramp vehicles attempt to cut into a six-vehicular platoon, to validate its feasibility and advantage.
