      • Myth and Women in Classical Greek Epic the Iliad

Bhim Nath Regmi 아시아사회과학학회 2021 Jornal of Asia Social Science Vol.2 No.3

Homer s renowned creation the Iliad written in twenty-four books is about the Trojan War. It has a mammoth effect on Greek myth and tradition. The woman as an object is the main cause of the conflict and they are the victims of war after the downfall of the city. Greek women were like property to be safeguarded and prey to be attained determines their position in ancient Greek. In the existing patriarchal society of ancient Greek, the females only had a subservient role and Greek mythology was too patriarchal. The portrayal of women in classic Greek myths has a deep connection with its cultural values which are a part of human perception and consciousness. Women in Greek myth especially in the Iliad are oppressive, deceitful, and object to males.

A Three-Phase Four-Wire DSTATCOM for Power Quality Improvement

        Bhim Singh,P. Jayaprakash,D. P. Kothari 전력전자학회 2008 JOURNAL OF POWER ELECTRONICS Vol.8 No.3

Power quality improvement in a three-phase four-wire system is achieved using a new topology of DSTATCOM (distribution static compensator) consisting of a star/delta transformer with a tertiary winding and a three-leg VSC (voltage source converter). This new topology of DSTATCOM is proposed for power factor correction or voltage regulation along with harmonic elimination, load balancing and neutral current compensation. A tertiary winding is introduced in each phase for a delta connected secondary in addition to the star-star windings and this delta connected winding is responsible for neutral current compensation. The dynamic performance of the proposed DSTATCOM system is demonstrated using MATLAB with its Simulink and Power System Blockset (PSB) toolboxes under varying loads. The capacitor supported DC bus of the DSTATCOM is regulated to the reference voltage under varying loads.

An Input Current Waveshaping AC-DC Converter for Rectifier Loads

        Bhim Singh,Vipin Garg,G.Bhuvaneswari 전력전자학회 2008 JOURNAL OF POWER ELECTRONICS Vol.8 No.1

This paper presents the design and analysis of a new input AC current waveshaping AC-DC converter for cost effective harmonic mitigation under varying loads. The proposed converter consists of a delta-polygon connected autotransformer based twelve-pulse AC-DC converter and a small rating passive shunt filter tuned at 11th harmonic frequency. The proposed AC-DC converter eliminates the most dominant 5th, 7th and 11th harmonics and reduces higher order harmonics; thereby, resulting in an improved power quality at AC mains. Moreover, the design of the autotransformer is modified to make it suitable for retrofit applications, where presently a 6-pulse diode bridge rectifier is used. To validate the proposed approach, various power quality indices are presented under varying loads. Experimental results obtained on the developed converter are given to validate the model and design of the proposed converter.

Analysis, Design, Modeling, Simulation and Development of Single-Switch AC-DC Converters for Power Factor and Efficiency Improvement

Bhim Singh,Ganesh Dutt Chaturvedi 전력전자학회 2008 JOURNAL OF POWER ELECTRONICS Vol.8 No.1

This paper addresses several issues concerning the analysis, design, modeling, simulation and development of single-phase, single-switch, power factor corrected AC-DC high frequency switching converter topologies with transformer isolation. A detailed analysis and design is presented for single-switch topologies, namely forward buck, flyback, Cuk, Sepic and Zeta buck-boost converters, with high frequency isolation for discontinuous conduction modes (DCM) of operation. With an awareness of modern design trends towards improved performance, these switching converters are designed for low power rating and low output voltage, typically 20.25W with 13.5V in DCM operation. Laboratory prototypes of the proposed single-switch converters in DCM operation are developed and test results are presented to validate the proposed design and developed model of the system.

Stand-Alone Wind Energy Conversion System with an Asynchronous Generator

Bhim Singh,Shailendra Sharma 전력전자학회 2010 JOURNAL OF POWER ELECTRONICS Vol.10 No.5

This paper deals with a stand-alone wind energy conversion system (WECS) with an isolated asynchronous generator (IAG) and voltage and frequency (VF) control feeding three-phase four-wire loads. The reference generator currents are estimated using the instantaneous symmetrical component theory to control the voltage and frequency of an IAG system. A three-leg voltage source converter (VSC) with an isolated star/delta transformer is used as an integrated VSC. An integrated VSC with a battery energy storage system (BESS) is used to control the active and reactive powers of the WECS. The WECS is modeled and simulated in MATLAB using the Simulink and the Sim Power System (SPS) toolboxes. The proposed VF controller functions as a voltage and frequency regulator, a load leveler, a load balancer and a harmonic eliminator in the WECS. A comparison is made on the rating of the VSC with and without ac capacitors connected at the terminals of an IAG. Simulation and test results are presented to verify the control algorithm.

Fuzzy Pre-Compensated PI Control of Active Filters

Bhim Singh,Varun Singhal 전력전자학회 2008 JOURNAL OF POWER ELECTRONICS Vol.8 No.2

This paper deals with a new and improved control technique for shunt active filters (AF) used for compensating unwanted harmonic currents injected in the mains due to nonlinear varying loads. This work is motivated by the need to find a permanent solution to the rigorous hit and trial method for evaluating system parameters in an indirect control of AF. A fuzzy pre-compensated PI (Proportional-Integral) controller is used to fuzzify the reference DC voltage of AF to the controller input so that the overshoots and undershoots in its DC link voltage are minimized and the settling time is improved. A three-phase diode rectifier with R-L (Resistive-Inductive) load is used as a non-linear load to study the effectiveness of the proposed controller of the AF. Robustness to filter parameter variations, insensitivity to controller parameter variations, and transient response has been taken as performance evaluation parameters. The results are shown through simulations in Matlab using power system block sets to demonstrate the capability of the proposed controller of the AF.

An 18-Pulse Full-Wave AC-DC Converter for Power Quality Improvement

Bhim Singh,Sanjay Gairola 전력전자학회 2008 JOURNAL OF POWER ELECTRONICS Vol.8 No.2

In this paper, a novel delta/double-fork transformer based 18-pulse full-wave AC-DC converter is designed, modeled, simulated and developed to feed isolated DC varying loads. The proposed AC-DC converter is used for low voltage and large current DC loads in applications such as electrowinning, where isolation is required mainly for stepping down the supply voltage. The proposed converter improves power quality at AC mains and meets IEEE-519 standard requirements at varying loads.

Reduced Rating T-Connected Autotransformer Based Thirty-Pulse AC-DC Converter for Vector Controlled Induction Motor Drives

Bhim Singh,G.Bhuvaneswari,Vipin Garg 전력전자학회 2006 JOURNAL OF POWER ELECTRONICS Vol.6 No.3

The design and performance analysis of a reduced rating autotransformer based thirty-pulse AC-DC converter is carried out for feeding a vector controlled induction motor drive (VCIMD). The configuration of the proposed autotransformer consists of only two single phase transformers, with their windings connected in a T-shape, resulting in simplicity in design, manufacturing and in a reduction in magnetics rating. The design procedure of the autotransformer along with the newly designed interphase transformer is presented. The proposed configuration has flexibility in varying the transformer output voltage ratios as required. The design of the autotransformer can be modified for retrofit applications, where presently a 6-pulse diode bridge rectifier is used. The proposed thirty-pulse AC-DC converter is capable of suppressing less than 29th harmonics in the supply current. The power factor is also improved to near unity in the wide operating range of the drive. A comparison of different power quality indices at AC mains and DC bus is demonstrated in a conventional 6-pulse AC-DC converter and the proposed AC-DC converter feeding a VCIMD. A laboratory prototype of the proposed autotransformer based 30-pulse AC-DC converter was developed with test results validating the proposed design and system.

An Improved Control Approach for DSTATCOM with Distorted and Unbalanced AC Mains

Bhim Singh,Jitendra Solanki 전력전자학회 2008 JOURNAL OF POWER ELECTRONICS Vol.8 No.2

This paper presents a new control approach of DSTATCOM (distribution static compensator) for compensation of reactive power, unbalanced loading and harmonic currents under unbalanced non-sinusoidal ac mains. The control of DSTATCOM is achieved using Adaline based current estimator based on LMS algorithm to maintain source currents real and undistorted. The dc bus voltage of voltage source converter (VSC) working as DSTATCOM is maintained at constant voltage using a proportional-integral (PI) controller. The DSTATCOM system alongwith proposed control scheme is modeled in MATLAB to simulate the behavior of the system. The practical implementation of the DSTATCOM is carried out using dSPACE DS1104 R&D controller having TMS320F240 as a slave DSP. Simulated and implementation results are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the DSTATCOM with Adaline based control to meet the severe load perturbations with different types of loads (linear and non-linear) under distorted and unbalanced AC mains.
