        Intrinsic Bauschinger Effect and Recoverable Plasticity in Pentatwinned Silver Nanowires Tested in Tension

        <P>Silver nanowires are promising components of flexible electronics such as interconnects and touch displays. Despite the expected cyclic loading in these applications, characterization of the cyclic mechanical behavior of chemically synthesized high-quality nanowires has not been reported. Here, we combine in situ TEM tensile tests and atomistic simulations to characterize the cyclic stress–strain behavior and plasticity mechanisms of pentatwinned silver nanowires with diameters thinner than 120 nm. The experimental measurements were enabled by a novel system allowing displacement-controlled tensile testing of nanowires, which also affords higher resolution for capturing stress–strain curves. We observe the Bauschinger effect, that is, asymmetric plastic flow, and partial recovery of the plastic deformation upon unloading. TEM observations and atomistic simulations reveal that these processes occur due to the pentatwinned structure and emerge from reversible dislocation activity. While the incipient plastic mechanism through the nucleation of stacking fault decahedrons (SFDs) is fully reversible, plasticity becomes only partially reversible as intersecting SFDs lead to dislocation reactions and entanglements.         Policy priorities regarding the Improvement of the Safety of Ice Road Trucking along the Lena River using CFPR

        This research aims to determine potential factors related to the improvement of safety practices regarding ice road trucking in the Lena River area in Russia. The CFPR methodology proposed in this study provides a framework that serves as a guide to prioritizing safety factors in decision-making processes. Furthermore, the identification of ice road conditions, the promotion of ice road information, and driver behavior, as the top three safety factors, highlight the urgent need for improved maintenance efforts, reliable information dissemination, and enhance training for truck drivers. Addressing these safety factors could result in significant improvements in the safety and efficiency of ice road transportation in the Lena River region. Industrial implications can be found in this study in light of the decision-making solutions provided, which can establish a starting point in the policy-making decisions made by the Russian government, local authorities, and related stakeholders.

        Kinematics and dynamics modeling of the 6-3-PUS-type Hexapod parallel mechanism

        Modeling and analyzing the dynamics of mechanical systems is important for purposes of simulation, design and control. In the case of parallel manipulators, dynamics modeling becomes a complex task mainly due to the constraints imposed by the closed kinematic chains, and several methods have been proposed for solving that problem. Some authors suggest first using a non-minimal set of coordinates and then computing a minimal dynamics model by means of the so-called projection method. This paper reports the use of such procedure for obtaining the dynamics model of a particular parallel mechanism of the type known as 6-3-PUS. To compute the non-minimal dynamics we employed the Euler-Lagrange formulation. The computed kinematics and dynamics models were validated via numerical simulations. This modeling approach can be employed for similar mechanisms.

        Thermoluminescence of NaCl:Cu Sintered Phosphors Exposed to Beta Irradiation

        NaCl:Cu pellet-shaped phosphors were synthesized through a sintering process. Some samples were exposed to beta irradiation in order to investigate their thermoluminescence properties and capabilities to be used in detecting and measuring ionizing radiation. The glow curves reveal at least four thermoluminescence peaks below 250°C, and a main one above 300°C when a 5°C/s heating rate is used. The lowest temperature peak vanishes in less than 3 min after irradiation, giving rise to an intense afterglow luminescence, potentially useful for in situ non-thermoluminescence dosimetry, and the next remains for about 3 h, but the high temperature one exhibits no important changes after that time. The thermoluminescence intensity increased as the radiation dose increased in the 0.417 - 25.0 Gy dose range. Because the position and the remarkable stability of the higher temperature peak, besides the strong afterglow produced by the fast decaying of the lower temperature peak, it is concluded that these phosphors are very suitable candidates to be used in both thermoluminescence and non thermoluminescence dosimetry of ionizing radiation, having advantages over monocrystals of similar composition. The synthesis route here followed can be reproduced in standard college laboratories, and thermoluminescence be measured in home-made systems, allowing design practices for interdisciplinary physics, chemistry electronics, and materials science students.

        주변부에서 모더니티를 다시 생각하기

        이 논문은 유럽중심의 패권주의 모더니티 개념을 비판하고, 인식론적 장소로 상상되는 주변부의 시각에서 모더니티를 다시 생각한다. 이 논문은 철학적 관점에 토대를 두면서도 다른 학문에서 파생한 개념과 자료까지 포함하여 모더니티가 식민주의의 보호 아래에서 태어났음을 주장한다. 그러므로 “주변부들”은 모더니티의 발흥과 전개에서 하위주체로이기는 했지만 결정적인 역할을 한 것으로 간주된다. 이 논문은 또한 근대가 만든 다양한 종류의 주변부들을 구별할 필요성과, 주변부들이 서구식 일반 관점에 영향을 받지 않고 서로 간의 깊이 있으면서 직접적인 대화를 할 필요성을 주장한다. The essay undertakes a critique of the hegemonic and Eurocentric notion of modernity, rethinking it from the margins, conceived as an epistemological location. Based on a philosophical perspective, but incorporating notions and materials from other disciplines, the paper proposes that modernity was born under the aegis of colonialism. This being so, the “margins” are conceived as crucial, though subaltern, actors in the rise and development of modernity. The essay also proposes the need to distinguish among the varied kind of margins created by the modern world, as well as the need for an in-depth and direct dialogue between them, not mediated by Western usual channels.

        Efficiency Analysis of Spanish Container Ports Using Undesirable Variables and the Malmquist Index

        Spain is Europe’s second-largest country with total throughput reaching 16.7 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEU) by 2020. The purpose of this study was to measure and compare the efficiency of 17 container terminals. As a study method, the DEA-CCR model, undesirable variable, and Malmquist Index (MI) were used for data envelopment analysis (DEA). The study results are as follow: (1) DEA-CCR is used to evaluate basic efficiency. The most efficient terminals are decision-making units DMU 1 (APM Terminals (Algeciras Port)), DMU 2 (Total Terminal International Algeciras (Algeciras Port)) and DMU 5 (Barcelona Europe South Terminal (Barcelona Port)). (2) Undesirable DEA was conducted to suggest inefficiency from the undesirable output. Overall, the efficiency scores were reduced. However, DMU 1, DMU 2, and DMU 5 maintained efficiency scores regardless of the finish factor. (3) Malmquist Index was used to observe technology and efficiency changes dynamically. The changes in TCI affected Spanish container terminals more than the Technical Efficiency Change Index (TECI) in 2018-2019. However, in 2019-2020, the TECI was 2.706, higher than the TCI value, indicating that the change in TECI had more influence on the increase in productivity. This study offers a broader understanding of Spanish container terminals.

        Methodology for Computer Security Incident Response Teams into IoT Strategy

        At present, the Colombian government shares information on threats or vulnerabilities in the area of cybersecurity and cyberdefense, from other government agencies or departments, on an ad-hoc basis but not in real time, with the surveillance entities of the Government of the Republic of Colombia such as the Joint Command of Cybernetic Operations (CCOCI) and the Cybernetic Emergencies Response Team of Colombia (ColCERT). This research presents the MS-CSIRT (Management System Computer Security Incident Response Teams) methodology, that is used to unify the guidelines of a CSIRT towards a joint communication command in cybersecurity for the surveillance of Information Technology (IT), Technological Operations (TO), Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) or Internet of Things (IoT) infrastructures. This methodology evaluates the level of maturity, by means of a roadmap, to establish a CSIRT as a reference framework for government entities and as a guide for the areas of information security, IT and TO to strengthen the growth of the industry 4.0. This allows the organizations to draw a line of cybersecurity policy with scope, objectives, controls, metrics, procedures and use cases for the correct coordination between ColCERT and CCOCI, as support entities in cybersecurity, and the different companies (ICS, IoT, gas and energy, mining, maritime, agro-industrial, among others) or government agencies that use this methodology.

        The role of e-commerce in the internationalization of Spanish luxury fashion multi-brand retailers

        The aim of this paper is to analyze the role that e-commerce has to play in the internationalization of Spanish luxury multi-brand stores. Possible answers are sought to the following research question: How might the adoption of e-commerce platforms aff ect the international sales of multi-brand retailers? This paper presents a data analysis of the 15 most important Spanish fashion multi-brand retailers and the diff erent prospects of e-commerce today. Our analysis of online stores shows an open mentality when it comes to adapting to this new business model, but the late integration and inexperience of the majority of retailers limit their performance. Information from diff erent channels and further research through the collaboration of brands would have given us more detailed information regarding the current situation within this sector. The paper analyzes the current situation of e-commerce luxury fashion multi-brand stores and mainly focuses on the Spanish market, even though it also off ers a global overview.

        Fashion empowering women: Sterotypes in the TV dramedy series House of Cards, Suits and Emily in Paris

        Fashion has showed a double face in its relationship with women and power. According with some feminist frameworks, fashion was something women need to release in a male-dominated structure. A new wave of authors claims for a power dressing approach, where fashion is a tool to define the new role of women in society. The study here contributes to this debate through the analysis of fash- ion in TV series. Representation of women in television series is feeding the women position in society and has already generated an interesting academic corpus. Analyzing power dressing ele- ments in 130 fashion looks of 3 women boss characters (Claire Underwood in House of Cards, Sylvie Grateau in Emily in Paris and Jessica Pearson in Suits), a new stereotype of women is recognized. The study includes a qualitative analysis to understand the context of fashion functions in those series. The analysis concludes with three main uses of fashion in dramedy series: fashion to develop powerful characters; fashion to generate engagement with the audience; and fashion as a commercial tool. The study shows how fashion has become a key element for successful television series.
