Company Name Discrimination in Tweets using Topic Signatures Extracted from News Corpus
Beomseok Hong,Yanggon Kim,Sang Ho Lee 한국정보과학회 2016 Journal of Computing Science and Engineering Vol.10 No.4
It is impossible for any human being to analyze the more than 500 million tweets that are generated per day. Lexical ambiguities on Twitter make it difficult to retrieve the desired data and relevant topics. Most of the solutions for the word sense disambiguation problem rely on knowledge base systems. Unfortunately, it is expensive and time-consuming to manually create a knowledge base system, resulting in a knowledge acquisition bottleneck. To solve the knowledge-acquisition bottleneck, a topic signature is used to disambiguate words. In this paper, we evaluate the effectiveness of various features of newspapers on the topic signature extraction for word sense discrimination in tweets. Based on our results, topic signatures obtained from a snippet feature exhibit higher accuracy in discriminating company names than those from the article body. We conclude that topic signatures extracted from news articles improve the accuracy of word sense discrimination in the automated analysis of tweets.
Degradation diagnosis system of photovoltaic panels with mobile application
Beomseok Lee,Jinsung Byun,Myeong-in Choi,Byeongkwan Kang,Sehyun Park IEEE 2014 IEEE transactions on consumer electronics Vol.60 No.3

Recently, the number of buildings and houses in which photovoltaic (PV) systems are installed has increased. However, an issue with the efficiency of the PV system and the degradation phenomenon has been revealed. Consumers who benefit from the PV system experience difficulties monitoring and controlling it because a PV diagnosis system is heavy and expensive to install at home. Furthermore, the existing diagnosis system is not coordinated with a home energy management system. In addition, the accurate performance evaluation of the PV system is required for energy management. Therefore, a new degradation diagnosis system for PV panels for household consumers is proposed in this paper. Additionally, a mobile-type home gateway that has various management applications is proposed. It is demonstrated that, with this mobile-type home gateway applied to the proposed system, consumers can monitor the degradation of the PV system, analyze the efficiency of the PV panels, and save energy at home by using a mobile-type home gateway.

A Distributed Coexistence Mitigation Scheme for IoT-Based Smart Medical Systems
( Beomseok Kim ) 한국정보처리학회 2017 Journal of information processing systems Vol.13 No.6
Since rapidly disseminating of Internet of Things (IoT) as the new communication paradigm, a number of studies for various applications is being carried out. Especially, interest in the smart medical system is rising. In the smart medical system, a number of medical devices are distributed in popular area such as station and medical center, and this high density of medical device distribution can cause serious performance degradation of communication, referred to as the coexistence problem. When coexistence problem occurs in smart medical system, reliable transmitting of patient’s biological information may not be guaranteed and patient’s life can be jeopardized. Therefore, coexistence problem in smart medical system should be resolved. In this paper, we propose a distributed coexistence mitigation scheme for IoT-based smart medical system which can dynamically avoid interference in coexistence situation and can guarantee reliable communication. To evaluate the performance of the proposed scheme, we perform extensive simulations by comparing with IEEE 802.15.4 MAC protocol which is a traditional low-power communication technology.
Carrier Based PWM for Three-Phase Three-Switch Buck-Type Rectifier in EV Rapid Charging System
Beomseok Chae,Taewon Kang,Tahyun Kang,Yongsug Suh 전력전자학회 2015 ICPE(ISPE)논문집 Vol.2015 No.6
This paper investigates an economic and highly efficient power converter topology and its modulation scheme for 60kW rapid EV charger system. The target system consists of three-phase three-switch buck-type rectifier topology. A new Carrier Based PWM scheme along with its simple implementation using logic gates is introduced in this paper. This PWM scheme replaces the diode rectifier equivalent switching state with an active switching state producing the effectively same current flowing path. As a result, the distortion of input current during the polarity reversal of capacitor line voltage can be mitigated. The proposed modulation technique is confirmed through simulation verification. The proposed modulation technique and its implementation scheme can expand the operation range of the three-phase three-switch buck-type rectifier having ac input and capacitor ripple current of high quality.
