An Assessment of Soybean Imports from the United States by Japan
Bengt Hyberg,Noel D. Uri 서울대학교 경제연구소 1995 Seoul journal of economics Vol.8 No.4
This paper estimates the implicit prices of the physical and intrinsic characteristics of soybeans exported by the United States. It provides a couple of basic pieces of information. First, the U.S. grades and standards assigned to a shipment do provide information valued by the market. Second, in Japan there are two identifiable soybean markets - a premium food bean market and a crushing market. The soybeans going into the food market for processing can be identified by their lower oil content, lower percentage of split and damaged beans, and a lower amount of foreign material. as well as smaller shipment sizes. The soybeans which have characteristics which satisfy those demanded in the food bean market are bid into that market.
OUTBREAKS OF THE PINE GALL MIDGE Thecodiplosis brachyntera ( SCHWAG . ) IN SWEDEN
Bengt Ehnstrom 한국산림과학회 1985 한국산림과학회지 Vol.71 No.1
In recent years, attackes of Thecodiplosis brachyntera have increased dramatically in Sweden. Earlier only a few local outbreaks were observed. In 1979 several thousands hectares of Pinus silvesrris stands in the northern part of Sweden showed a needle loss of up to 95% on the current year`s shoots. The outbreaks were concentrated to dry sites. Different age classes of trees (excluding plants) were damaged. In the following year only a few percent of needle loss were recorded in this region, but extensive damage was observed in many regions in the southern part of the country. In addition to pure pine stands, stands mixed with Picea abies were damaged as well. In 1981 extensive attacks of T. brachyntera were repeated in northern Sweden. Also in 1982 a needle loss of almost 70% were observed in some stands in the region. During 1983 and 1984 there were no more reports of damage from the northern part of the country. Extensive needle loss was observed in the southeast part of Sweden in 1984. In this region a heavy attack of the pine gall midge Contarinia baeri (Preli.) also was observed in one locality. Attacks of T. brachyntera are not only registered from P. silvestris. In one locality in southern Sweden heavy needle loss was recorded from P. contorta. From northern Sweden, where lodge pole pine is widely introduced, no attacks have been reported from this pine species. Up to six larvae of T. brachyntera were found in each needle pair of P. contorts in comparison with one larva in P. silvestris.
A Review of the Progress with Statistical Models of Passive Component Reliability
Bengt O.Y. Lydell 한국원자력학회 2017 Nuclear Engineering and Technology Vol.49 No.2
During the past 25 years, in the context of probabilistic safety assessment, efforts have been directed towards establishment of comprehensive pipe failure event databases as a foundation for exploratory research to better understand how to effectively organize a piping reliability analysis task. The focused pipe failure database development efforts have progressed well with the development of piping reliability analysis frameworks that utilize the full body of service experience data, fracture mechanics analysis insights, expert elicitation results that are rolled into an integrated and risk-informed approach to the estimation of piping reliability parameters with full recognition of the embedded uncertainties. The discussion in this paper builds on a major collection of operating experience data (more than 11,000 pipe failure records) and the associated lessons learned from data analysis and data applications spanning three decades. The piping reliability analysis lessons learned have been obtained from the derivation of pipe leak and rupture frequencies for corrosion resistant piping in a raw water environment, loss-of-coolantaccident frequencies given degradation mitigation, high-energy pipe break analysis, moderate-energy pipe break analysis, and numerous plant-specific applications of a statistical piping reliability model framework. Conclusions are presented regarding the feasibility of determining and incorporating aging effects into probabilistic safety assessment models.
RADIAL BASIS FUNCTIONS - SOME RECENT DEVELOPMENTS
BENGT FORNBERG 한국산업응용수학회 2006 한국산업응용수학회 학술대회 논문집 Vol.1 No.1
Radial basis functions (RBF) is a recent methodology for scattered data interpolation. offering possibilities for meshfree numerical solution of PDEs to spectral accuracy also on irregular domains in any number of dimensions. We briefly introduce RBFs, and then focus on some recent developments, especially with regard to the Gibbs and the Runge phenomena for RBF interpolants. The latter suggests ways to further enhance the RBF methodology for solving PDEs.
