The human gastrointestinal tract harbors a magnitude of bacteria, which are collectively known as the gut microbiome. Research has demonstrated that the gut microbiome significantly impacts the health of its host and alters the host’s risk for various chronic diseases. Many factors, such as diet, could potentially be manipulated to alter the host gut microbiome and induce subsequent preventative and/or therapeutic effects. It has been established that diet partakes in the regulation and maintenance of the gut microbiome; however, specific crosstalk between the microbiome, gut, and host has not been clearly elucidated in relation to diet. In this review of the scientific literature, we outline current knowledge of the differential effects of major plant-derived dietary constituents (fiber, phytochemicals, vitamins, and minerals) on the diversity and composition of the gut microbiome.

Peliosis hepatis is a rare condition that can cause hepatic hemorrhage, rupture, and ultimately liver failure. Several authors have reported that peliosis hepatis develops in association with chronic wasting disease or prolonged use of anabolic steroids or oral contraceptives. In this report we describe a case in which discontinuation of steroid therapy improved the condition of a patient with peliosis hepatis. Our patient was a 64-year-old woman with a history of long-term steroid treatment for idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura . Her symptoms included abdominal pain and weight loss; the only finding of a physical examination was hepatomegaly. We performed computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the liver and a liver biopsy. Based on these findings plus clinical observations, she was diagnosed with peliosis hepatis and her steroid treatment was terminated. The patient recovered completely 3 months after steroid discontinuation, and remained stable over the following 6 months. (Clin Mol Hepatol 2015;21:387-392)

The This investigation seeks to elucidate the possible correlation between attendance factors, and spectators’ satisfaction and team loyalty. By doing so, I hope to facilitate the efforts to revitalize the women’s pro basketball market. I also suggest effcieint management methods and marketing strategies based on substantive data. The following is my findings. This research utilzed convenience sampling method to survey spectators at six cities that house women’s pro basketball teams. Out of 530 surveys that were collected, I ruled out 21 surveys that were answered only partially. Therefore, there were 509 surveys that were deemed to be valid. Relationship between game attendance factors and spectators’ satisfaction in women’s pro basketball with a p<.001, it is shown that ‘Cost of Attendance’ is correlated to spectators’ satisfaction. Moreover, with a p<.05, it is shown that ‘Spectator Promotion’ is also correlated with spectators’s satisfaction. Relationship between game ?attendance factors and spectators’ satisfaction in women’s pro basketball with a p<.001, it is shown that ‘Game Conditions’ and ‘Cost of attendance’ are correlated with spectators’ team loyalty.

Panax ginseng (PG) is a globally utilized medicinal herb. The medicinal effects of PG are primarily attributable to ginsenosides located in the root and leaf. The leaves of PG are known to be rich in various bioactive ginsenosides, and the therapeutic effects of ginseng extract and ginsenosides have been associated with immunomodulatory and anti-infl ammatory activities. We examined the effect of PG leaf extract and the isolated ginsenosides, on nuclear factor (NF)-κB transcriptional activity and target gene expression by applying a luciferase assay and reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction in tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α-treated hepatocarcinoma HepG2 cells. Air-dried PG leaf extract inhibited TNF-α-induced NF-κB transcription activity and NF-κB-dependent cyclooxygenase (COX)-2 and inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) gene expression more effi ciently than the steamed extract. Of the 10 ginsenosides isolated from PG leaves, Rd and Km most signifi cantly inhibited activity in a dose-dependent manner, with IC50 values of 12.05±0.82 and 8.84±0.99 μM, respectively. Furthermore, the ginsenosides Rd and Km inhibited the TNF-α-induced expression levels of the COX-2 and iNOS gene in HepG2 cells. Air-dried leaf extracts and their chemical components, ginsenoside Rd and Km, are involved in the suppression of TNF-α-induced NF-κB activation and NF-κB-dependent iNOS and COX-2 gene expression. Consequently, air-dried leaf extract from PG, and the purifi ed ginsenosides, have therapeutic potential as anti-infl ammatory.

Castleman disease (CD) is a rare lymphoproliferative disorder of unknown etiology with different clinical manifestations. A previous healthy 50 year-old man was hospitalized for right upper quadrant (RUQ) abdominal pain. He had jaundice and a 1 cm-sized lymph node in the right supraclavicular area. Pancreas and biliary computed tomography (CT) showed masses at the right renal hilum and peripancreatic areas. Positron emission tomography (PET) showed widespread systemic lymphadenopathy. Excisional biopsy of the right supraclavicular node revealed a hyaline vascular variant of CD. Corticosteroid therapy was started and the extent of disease decreased. We here report a case of multicentric CD, the hyaline vascular variant, presenting with jaundice, diagnosed by excisional biopsy and successfully treated with corticosteroids.
