Anticancer Properties of Total Alkaloid fraction of Solanum pseudocapsicum unripe fruits
Badami, Shrishailappa,Dhonde, Satish G.,Reddy SA, Manohar,P., Vijayan,B, Suresh Kyung Hee Oriental Medicine Research Center 2004 Oriental pharmacy and experimental medicine Vol.4 No.1
The total alkaloid fraction of the methanolic extract of Solanum pseudocapsicum unripe fruits was tested for its in-vivo anticancer activity against Dalton's Lymphoma Ascites model in mice. The total alkaloid fraction at 5.0 and 10.0 mg/kg body weight showed significant increase in the mean survival time and the percentage increase in the life span of tumor bearing mice. The increase in the body weight was found to be less than that of the control. However, the treatment at 20 mg/ kg body weight was found to be toxic and showed a decrease in the mean survival time, and body weight when compared to control mice. The antitumor activity observed may be due to the cytotoxic activity of the total alkaloid fraction.
Antioxidant activity of Grewia tiliaefolia bark
Badami, Shrishailappa,Gupta, Mahesh Kumar,M., Ramanathan,B., Suresh Kyung Hee Oriental Medicine Research Center 2005 Oriental pharmacy and experimental medicine Vol.5 No.1
Grewia tiliaefolia is commonly used in India and several other countries for its ethnomedical properties. The antioxidant effect of 50% methanol extract of Grewia tiliaefolia bark was investigated by in-vitro and in-vivo methods. The extract exhibited $IC_{50}$ value of $51.40{\pm}3.98\;{\mu}g/ml$ in DPPH assay. In the in vivo experiments, the treatment was given at 250 and 500 mg/kg body weight doses orally for seven days and catalase, SOD, TBA-RS and ascorbic acid levels were estimated. Both the doses caused a significant increase in the levels of catalase in the liver and kidney, and SOD in the liver, kidney and blood serum. A significant decrease in the level of TBARS was also observed. These results suggest potent antioxidant nature of the extract.

Aristolochia bracteolata is being used in traditional medicine for a variety of ailments. Three successive and two crude extracts of its leaves were subjected for in vitro antioxidant activity using seven different methods. The successive ethyl acetate and crude methanol extracts have shown potent antioxidant activity in ABTS method with $IC_{50}$ values of $17.08\;{\pm}\;0.44\;and\;28.12\;{\pm}\;2.87\;{\mu}g/ml$, respectively. The crude methanol and successive chloroform extracts have shown moderate antioxidant activity in scavenging of hydroxyl radical by p-NDA method. All the extracts have shown moderate to low antioxidant activity by other methods.

Solanum barbisetum also showed potent activity in DPPH [1,1-diphenyl-2-picryl hydrazyl] method with an $IC_{50}$ value of 55.33 $\pm$ 1.66 ${\mu}g/ml. In the cytotoxicity studies, the methanol extract of Solanum barbisetum exhibited moderate activity against Vero, HEp-2, HeLa and A-549 cell lines with $IC_{50}$ values in the range of 83.30 - 127.30 ${\mu}g$/ml. Solanum anguivi multiflora extract also showed moderate activity against Hep-2 cell line with $IC_{50}$ value of 80.13 ${\mu}g$/ml. Solanum barbisetum possessing both the activities requires further investigation.

In vitro cytotoxic evaluation of some essential oils
P., Vijayan,Godavarthi, Ashok,Chandrashekhar, Raghu,Badami, Shrishilappa,SA, Dhanaraj,B., Suresh Kyung Hee Oriental Medicine Research Center 2003 Oriental pharmacy and experimental medicine Vol.3 No.4
Seven essential oils were tested for in vitro cytotoxicity against the cancerous cell lines A-549, HEp-2 and DLA and normal BRL-3A, NRK-49F and Vero cell lines using standard MTT, SRB and dye exclusion techniques. The A-549 cell line was found to be the most susceptible to all the essential oils. The essential oils of A. nilagirica, A. calamus and O. sanctum were found to be the more active against these cells with mean $CTC_{50}$ values of 17.75, 19.00 and $24.37\;{\mu}g/ml$, respectively. The essential oil of Acorus calamus was found to be the most potent with low $CTC_{50}$ values against the cancerous and comparatively higher $CTC_{50}$ values against the normal cell lines. Artemisia pellens and Pelargonium graveolens oils also showed potent activity. These oils merit further investigation to identify the active principles and nature of the anti tumor activity in animal models.
An Improved African Vulture Optimization for Biding Strategy of Two-Settlement Market in China
Cao Wei,Chen Xiao,Cao Zhiwei,Badami Benjamin 대한전기학회 2023 Journal of Electrical Engineering & Technology Vol.18 No.2
The present study introduces a new optimal bidding strategy (BS) in the Two-settlement market for a case study in China. Here, an enhanced design of the African Vulture Optimizer (AVO) is utilized for optimizing the process based on the market-clearing price probability function. Subtractive clustering is also used for the similarity measures clustering between the present day and the later day. Non-decreasing bidding curves and a cap price bordered about 70 $/MWh has been considered for the production part of the day-ahead market competition. Also, the hourly maximum power of the generation company and hourly market clearing price are considered for providing a suitable examination of the model in the dataset. The optimal bidding strategy in this study is used to testify on bidding data from China from 2010 to 2019. Simulation results show that the average return in the company of generation in the sets raise to 25.84% and 13.83% compared with Model 1 as a simple model and Model 2 with a Q-Learning model, respectively which is for China's real electricity market.

Novel multiblock copolymers, based on segmented sulfonated hydrophilic-hydrophobic blocks, were synthesized and investigated for their application as proton exchange membranes. A series of segmented sulfonated poly(arylene ether sulfone)-b-polyimide multiblock copolymers, with various block lengths, were synthesized via the coupling reaction between the terminal amine moieties on the hydrophilic blocks and naphthalene anhydride functionalized hydrophobic blocks. Successful imidization reactions required a mixed solvent system, comprised of NMP and m-cresol, in the presence of catalysts. Proton conductivity measurements revealed that the proton conductivity improved with increasing hydrophilic and hydrophobic block lengths. The morphological structure of the multiblock copolymers was investigated using tapping mode atomic force microscopy (TM-AFM). The AFM images of the copolymers demonstrated well-defined nanophase separated morphologies, with the changes in the block length having a pronounced effect on the phase separated morphologies of the system. The self diffusion coefficient of water, as measured by $^1H$ NMR, provided a better understanding of the transport process. Thus, the block copolymers showed higher values than Nafion, and comparable proton conductivities in liquid water, as well as under partially hydrated conditions at $80^{\circ}C$. The new materials are strong candidates for use in PEM systems.
