Study Design: This was a single surgeon, single center-based retrospective study with prospective data collection. Purpose: To assess the correlation between T2-weighted magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) signal intensity (SI) changes and factors such as age, duration of symptoms, baseline modified Japanese Orthopedic Association (mJOA) score and to determine its prognostic value in predicting recovery after surgery. Overview of Literature: Whether intramedullary cord T2-weighted MRI SI changes can predict operative outcomes of cervical myeloradiculopathy remains debatable, with only a few prospective studies analyzing the same. Methods: Forty-six consecutive patients who underwent cervical myeloradiculopathy were included and were followed up for an average of 1 year. Preoperative T2-weighted MRI SI grading was performed for all patients. The correlation between MRI SI changes and age, duration of symptoms, preoperative mJOA score, and mJOA score at 1-year follow-up were analyzed. Results: Fifteen patients had single-level (21.73%) or double-level (10.86%) prolapsed discs; 54.34% had degenerative cervical spondylosis with canal stenosis or multilevel disc prolapse and 13.07% had ossified posterior longitudinal ligaments. The mean age was 56.17±9.53 years (range, 35–81 years). The mean baseline mJOA score was 10.83±2.58 (range, 6–16), which postoperatively improved to 13.59±2.28 (range, 8–17; p <0.001). There was a statistically significant correlation between mJOA score at 1 year and MRI T2 SI grading (p =0.017). Conclusions: Patients with longer symptom durations had high grades of intramedullary cord T2-weighted MRI SI changes. Age and preoperative neurological status were not significantly correlated with the existence of intramedullary cord SI changes. However, patients without or with mild and diffuse intramedullary cord T2-weighted MRI SI changes had better postoperative neurological recovery than those with sharp and focal SI changes.

<P>The debranching enzyme Nostoc punctiforme debranching enzyme (NPDE) from the cyanobacterium Nostoc punctiforme (PCC73102) hydrolyzes the α-1,6 glycosidic linkages of malto-oligosaccharides. Despite its high homology to cyclodextrin/pullulan (CD/PUL)-hydrolyzing enzymes from glycosyl hydrolase 13 family (GH-13), NPDE exhibits a unique catalytic preference for longer malto-oligosaccharides (>G8), performing hydrolysis without the transgylcosylation or CD-hydrolyzing activities of other GH-13 enzymes. To investigate the molecular basis for the property of NPDE, we determined the structure of NPDE at 2.37-Å resolution. NPDE lacks the typical N-terminal domain of other CD/PUL-hydrolyzing enzymes and forms an elongated dimer in a head-to-head configuration. The unique orientation of residues 25–55 in NPDE yields an extended substrate binding groove from the catalytic center to the dimeric interface. The substrate binding groove with a lengthy cavity beyond the −1 subsite exhibits a suitable architecture for binding longer malto-oligosaccharides (>G8). These structural results may provide a molecular basis for the substrate specificity and catalytic function of this cyanobacterial enzyme, distinguishing it from the classical neopullulanases and CD/PUL-hydrolyzing enzymes. Purpose - The ability to meet the high demand for education in Nigeria is lacking, making the region remain backwards in education. Given this reason, the study investigates the role of innovation capability in the relationship between intellectual capital and competitive advantage in tertiary institutions in Nigeria. Research design, data, and methodology - The study is cross-sectional research, a total of 427 questionnaires were administered to respondents. The study distributed its questionnaire across 12 faculties at the University of Ibadan using a random sampling technique. Data were analyzed using ADANCO 2.1.1. Result - The study reveals that human capital, structural capital, relational capital, and innovation capability positively affect competitive advantage. Innovation capability mediates the relationship between human capital and relational capital. However, structural capital was not mediated by innovation capability. Conclusion - The study concludes that intellectual capitals and innovation capability are crucial to maintaining a competitive advantage over their peers. Achieving more significant success in the variables mentioned earlier will help Nigeria's tertiary institutions compete locally and internationally.

In a re-structured environment, demand response (DR) programs are presented in a new style. The demand response program consists of demand-side management methods which answers to electricity price variations. With advent of electricity markets, the demand-side management programs was introduced into two categories: (1) energy effi ciency program, (2) demand response program. This paper studies engagement of participants load in an electricity market having a grid with large and small loads interested to participate in the market, energy storage systems, micro-grids, and distributed generations. In the proposed scheme, it is supposed to have an aggregator which sends demand-side preferences including load curtailment, load shifting, onsite generation, and energy storage systems along with proposed value and prices and all respective system constraints to the independent system operator (ISO). In fact, load aggregators submit aggregated DR off ers to the ISO in order to optimize fi nal decisions on aggregators’ DR contributions in wholesale market. The main goal of this paper is to solve the operation problem considering demand-side, system, and pollution and reliability constraints. Compared to other methods, the results indicate that the explicit modeling of customer DR would provide ISOs with more fl exible options for scheduling the available energy resources in day-ahead energy markets.
