Antihyperlipidemic effects of alcoholic extract of Pongamia pinnata Linn. leaves on high fat diet fed rats

        CR Tenpe,G Mane,AB Upaganlawar,BV Ghule,PG Yeole 경희대학교 융합한의과학연구소 2008 Oriental Pharmacy and Experimental Medicine Vol.8 No.3

The objective of the study was to investigate the antihyperlipidemic activity of alcoholic extract of Pongamia pinnata Linn. (PPAE) leaves in rats fed with high fat diet (HFD). PPAE was administered orally in the divided doses of 250 and 500 mg/kg/day for 30 days in HFD fed rats. Body weights were observed and the analysis of serum lipid profile was carried out on day 30. Marked decrease in the body weight, total cholesterol (TC), triglycerides (TG), low density lipoprotein (LDL) and very low density lipoprotein (VLDL) whereas significant increase in the levels of high density lipoprotein (HDL) were observed after treatment with PPAE. However, PPAE in a dose of 250 mg/kg did not show significant (P < 0.05) increase in HDL levels. The PPAE also lowered TC: HDL-c and LDL: HDL-c ratios significantly suggesting it’s antihyperlipidemic and cardioprotective potential. The present work reveals that PPAE at the dose of 500 mg/kg/day exhibited significant (P < 0.01) antihyperlipidemic effects. Food Consumption and Utilization Efficiency in Samia ricini Donovan Reared on Ricinus communis, lin. Leaves Supplemented with Cyanobacteria

( Sujathak ),( Jaikishan Singh Rs ),( Sampath A ),( Sanjeeva Rao Bv ) 한국잠사학회 2014 International Journal of Industrial Entomology Vol.28 No.2

Food consumption and conversion efficiency of eri silkworm Samia ricini Donovan were studied during 4th and 5th larval instars by feeding castor leaves fortified with 100, 200, 300, 400 and 500 ppm concentrations of aqueous extracts of cyanobacteria Anabaena variabilis. The nutritional indices viz., ingesta, digesta, approximate digestibility (%), reference ratio and efficiency parameters like ECI and ECD were recorded which were significantly high at 400ppm concentration treated batches of 4th in star larvae over control batches. The decline in nutritional efficiency parameters of 5th in star treated larvae might be due to higher utilization of the digested food for metabolic activities. Significant difference of ECI to cocoon % and nonsignificantdifference of ECD to cocoon% and shell were observed between the treatmentsand control. Cyanabacteria feed supplement contains antibiotic and nutritions factors whichhas reflective effect on the biological parameters in eri silkworm and therefore has greaterapplication in commercial eri silkworm rearing.

Evaluation of Efficacy of Ultrasonography in the Assessment of Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation in Subjects with Myositis and Myofascial Pain

Patil, Seema,Iyengar, Asha R,Kotni, Ramya Madhuri,BV, Subash,Joshi, Revan Kumar The Korean Pain Society 2016 The Korean Journal of Pain Vol.29 No.1

Background: The study aimed to determine if ultrasonography of masseter can be used to evaluate the outcome of transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) in subjects with temporomandibular disorders (TMDs) such as myositis and myofascial pain. Methods: Fifteen TMD subjects with myofascial pain/myositis who satisfied the RDC/McNeil criteria were included in the study. All the subjects were administered TENS therapy for a period of 6 days (30 minutes per session). The mouth opening (in millimeters) and severity of pain (visual analogue scale score) and ultrasonographic thickness of the masseter (in millimeters) in the region of trigger/tender areas was assessed in all the subjects both prior and post TENS therapy. A comparison of the pre-treatment and post-treatment values of the VAS score, mouth opening and masseter thickness was done with the help of a t-test. Results: There was a significant reduction in the thickness of masseter muscle (P = 0.028) and VAS scores (P < 0.001) post TENS therapy. There was also a significant improvement in the mouth opening (P = 0.011) post TENS therapy. Conclusions: In the present study, ultrasonography was found to be an effective measuring tool in the assessment of TENS therapy in subjects with myositis and myofascial pain.
