We investigate the effects of a coupled dark energy (cDE) scalar field on the alignment between satellites and matter distributions in galaxy clusters. Using high-resolution N-body simulations for Delta CDM and cDE cosmological models, we compute the probability density distribution for the alignment angle between the satellite galaxies and underlying matter distributions, finding a difference between the two scenarios. With respect to Delta CDM, in cDE cosmologies the satellite galaxies are less preferentially located along the major axis of the matter distribution, possibly reducing the tension with observational data. A physical explanation is that the coupling between dark matter and dark energy (DE) acts as an additional tidal force on the satellite galaxies, diminishing the alignments between their distribution and the matter one. Through a Wald test based on the generalized chi(2) statistics, the null hypothesis that the two probability distributions come from the same parent population is rejected at the 99% confidence level. It is concluded that the galaxy-matter alignment in clusters may provide a unique probe of dark sector interactions as well as the nature of DE.

Design for Robustness and Cost Effectiveness: The Case of an Optical Profilometer
Baldi, Antonio,Pedone, Paola,Romano, Daniele The Korean Society for Quality Management 2006 The Asian Journal on Quality Vol.7 No.1
The paper presents the design of an optical profilometer, a device used for the reconstruction of the micro-geometry of mechanical parts in applications where high precision is needed. The design is based on Robust Design, a major' methodology for quality improvement of engineering systems. Several design solutions, namely different hardware and software setups of the device, are compared in order to select a configuration realising a desired trade-off between performance and cost. The peculiarity of the design strategy is the use of a computer model of the measurement process where the physical part of the process is simulated. This allows for an extensive exploration of the design space, thus opening the way to product innovation.
PASTA ‘MADE IN TUSCANY’: TRACEABILITY AND SUSTAINABILITY AS MARKETING STRATEGY
Ada Baldi,Marco Mancini,Anna Dalla Marta,Simone Orlandini 글로벌지식마케팅경영학회 2015 Global Fashion Management Conference Vol.2015 No.06
This paper presents the case study of the Tuscan growers pasta, an example of linkage between people, territory, environment and food. The use of new technologies for agronomic management, cultivation protocols, and a food supply chain agreement guarantee high quality, traceability and sustainability from field to package, representing an innovative marketing strategy.
PHYSICAL AND HUMAN CAPITAL ACCUMULATION AND THE EVOLUTION OF INCOME AND INEQUALITY
GUIDO BALDI 중앙대학교 경제연구소 2013 Journal of Economic Development Vol.38 No.3
We study how financial and educational institutions affect the evolution of income and income inequality in an overlapping generations model with heterogenous agents. While the literature mostly focuses on either physical or human capital, we make an attempt to study the joint evolution of these variables. In our model, we find that better educational institutions increase income of the individuals and are associated with lower income inequality. Better financial institutions also foster economic growth, but are associated with higher income inequality. Our model also demonstrates that focusing on aggregate measures of financial and educational institutions provides misleading results if one neglects the possibility of unequal access to these institutions.

This research aims to understand how an interdisciplinary approach could help Italian firms to enhance their offer to the market. In this perspective, authors have studied benefits and obstacles of an interdisciplinary research approach, by describing the case of RITRATTO, a project by University of Florence referents of various disciplines (agronomy, design, engineering, history and marketing).
Assessment of predictions submitted for the CASP7 domain prediction category
Tress, Michael,Cheng, Jianlin,Baldi, Pierre,Joo, Keehyoung,Lee, Jinwoo,Seo, Joo-Hyun,Lee, Jooyoung,Baker, David,Chivian, Dylan,Kim, David,Ezkurdia, Iakes Wiley Subscription Services, Inc., A Wiley Company 2007 Proteins Vol. No.

This paper details the assessment process and evaluation results for the Critical Assessment of Protein Structure Prediction (CASP7) domain prediction category. Domain predictions were assessed using the Normalized Domain Overlap score introduced in CASP6 and the accuracy of prediction of domain break points. The results of the analysis clearly demonstrate that the best methods are able to make consistently reliable predictions when the target has a structural template, although they are less good when the domain break occurs in a region not covered by a template. The conditions of the experiment meant that it was impossible to draw any conclusions about domain prediction for free modeling targets and it was also difficult to draw many distinctions between the best groups. Two thirds of the targets submitted were single domains and hence regarded as easy to predict. Even those targets defined as having multiple domains always had at least one domain with a similar template structure. Proteins 2007. © 2007 Wiley-Liss, Inc.

In this study, spatial and temporal patterns of changes in extreme events of temperature and precipitation at 143 weather stations in ten Asia-Pacific Network (APN) countries and their associations with changes in climate means are examined for the 1955–2007 period. Averaged over the APN region, annual frequency of cool nights (days) has decreased by 6.4 days/decade (3.3 days/decade), whereas the frequency of warm nights (days) has increased by 5.4 days/decade (3.9 days/decade). The change rates in the annual frequency of warm nights (days) over the last 20 years (1988–2007) have exceeded those over the full 1955–2007 period by a factor of 1.8 (3.4). Seasonally, the frequencies of summer warm nights and days are changing more rapidly per unit change in mean temperatures than the corresponding frequencies for cool nights and days. However, normalization of the extreme and mean series shows that the rate of changes in extreme temperature events are generally less than that of mean temperatures, except for winter cold nights which are changing as rapidly as the winter mean minimum temperature. These results indicate that there have been seasonally and diurnally asymmetric changes in extreme temperature events relative to recent increases in temperature means in the APN region.

There are no systematic, regional trends over the study period in total precipitation, or in the frequency and duration of extreme precipitation events. Statistically significant trends in extreme precipitation events are observed at fewer than 30% of all weather stations, with no spatially coherent pattern of change, whereas statistically significant changes in extreme temperature events have occurred at more than 70% of all weather stations, forming strongly coherent spatial patterns.
