Background Reduced harvest volumes in pediatric donors appear to have the potential to reduce donor- associated risks while maintaining engraftment in recipients; however, the allowable harvest volume reduction remains undefined. Methods We retrospectively analyzed the data pairs of 553 bone marrow (BM) harvests from pediatric (age at harvest <18 yr) sibling donors and clinical outcomes of 553 pediatric (age at infusion <14 yr) transplant-naïve recipients to assess the optimal BM harvest volume needed from pediatric donors to obtain the desired CD34+ cell count (≥3.0×106 cells per kg of recipient weight), and to study its impact on the clinical outcomes of transplantation in pediatric recipients. Results The minimum desired CD34+ cell count of ≥3.0×106 per kg of recipient weight was achieved for 506 (95.3%) of donor-recipient pairs. The median CD34+ cell yield was 6.4×106 per kg of recipient weight (range, 1.2‒33.8×106) in donors younger than 5 years old at harvest, 4.7×106 (range, 0.3‒28.5×106) in donors aged 5‒10 years and 2.1×106 (range, 0.3‒11.3×106) in donors older than 10 years (P <0.001). Conclusion The infused CD34+ cell dose (×106 cells/kg of recipient weight) had no impact on GRFS; however, a CD34+ cell dose of >7×106 cells/kg of recipient weight did not improve hematopoietic recovery.
Gold Nanoparticles Induce Apoptosis in MCF-7 Human Breast Cancer Cells

Background: Gold nanoparticles have recently been investigated with respect to biocompatibility according to their interactions with cells. The purpose of this study was to examine cytotoxicity and apoptosis induction by well-characterized gold nanoparticles in human breast epithelial MCF-7 cells. Methods: Apoptosis was assessed by TUNEL, cytotoxicity by MTT assay and caspase 3, 9, p53, Bax and Bcl expression by real-time PCR assays. Results: Gold nanoparticles at up to $200\;{\mu}g/mL$ for 24 hours exerted concentration-dependent cytotoxicity and significant upregulation of mRNA expression of p53, bax, caspase-3 & caspase-9, whereas expression of antiapoptotic bcl-2 was down-regulated. Conclusion: To the best of our knowledge this is the first report showing that gold nanoparticles induce apoptosis in MCF-7cells via p53, bax/bcl-2 and caspase pathways.

After applying a magnetic field, the behavior of the partly ionized liquids is completely different from that of the ordinary fluids. In this study, we concentrated on the Cattaneo–Christov heat flux model-based three-dimensional partly ionized bio-convective flow of a second-order fluid on a bidirectional permeable stretching surface. The development of the thermal and solutal flow models takes into account the impacts of non-uniform sources and sinks, Ohmic viscous dissipation, and chemical reactions. In addition, the surface boundary effects of electron and ion collisions with convective boundary conditions are seen. The mathematical flow model is transformed appropriately to create an ordinary differential equations, which is then numerically solved with MATLAB’s BVP4C approach. To demonstrate the physical relevance of the flow field along various developing parameters, graphical and tabular results are created. It is noteworthy to note that while fluid temperature decreases with stronger values of the second-order fluid parameter, fluid velocity improves in both directions. In addition, it is shown that raising the thermal and concentration relaxation parameters, respectively, causes a drop in the fluid temperature and nanoparticle concentration.

Background: Many developing countries are lagging behind in reporting epidemiological data for individual central nervous system (CNS) tumors. This paper aimed to elicit patterns for the epidemiology of individual World Health Organization (WHO) classified CNS tumors in countries registered by WHO as "developing". Materials and Methods: Cyber search was carried out through 66 cancer networks/registries and 181 PubMed published papers that reported counts of CNS tumors for the period of 2009-2012. The relationship between the natural log of incidence Age Standardized Rate (ASR) reported by Globocan and Latitude/ Longitude was investigated. Results: Registries for 21 countries displayed information related to CNS tumors. In contrast tends for classified CNS tumor cases were identified for 38 countries via 181 PubMed publications. Extracted data showed a majority of unclassified reported cases [PubMed (38 countries, 45.7%), registries (21 countries, 96.1%)]. For classified tumors, astrocytic tumors were the most frequently reported type [PubMed (38 countries, 1,245 cases, 15.7%), registries (21 countries, 627 cases, 1.99%]. A significant linear regression relationship emerged between latitudes and reported cases of CNS tumors. Conclusions: Previously unreported trends of frequencies for individually classified CNS tumors were elucidated and a possible link of CNS tumors occurrence with geographical location emerged.
Performance Evaluation of SDN Controllers: RYU and POX for WBAN-based Healthcare Applications

Wireless Body Area Networks (WBANs) have made it easier for healthcare workers and patients to monitor patients' status continuously in real time. WBANs have complex and diverse network structures; thus, management and control can be challenging. Therefore, considering emerging Software-defined networks (SDN) with WBANs is a promising technology since SDN implements a new network management and design approach. The SDN concept is used in this study to create more adaptable and dynamic network architectures for WBANs. The study focuses on comparing the performance of two SDN controllers, POX and Ryu, using Mininet, an open-source simulation tool, to construct network topologies. The performance of the controllers is evaluated based on bandwidth, throughput, and round-trip time metrics for networks using an OpenFlow switch with sixteen nodes and a controller for each topology. The study finds that the choice of network controller can significantly impact network performance and suggests that monitoring network performance indicators is crucial for optimizing network performance. The project provides valuable insights into the performance of SDN-based WBANs using POX and Ryu controllers and highlights the importance of selecting the appropriate network controller for a given network architecture.

Background: The most hazardous wastewater sources in the northern part of the Middle Nile Delta, Egypt; receiving a massive amount of agricultural, industrial, and sewage drainage are Kitchener drain which is one of the tallest drainage systems, and Burullus Lake which represents the 2nd largest Egyptian coastal lake. Results: The current work is to determine the abundance and frequency of cyanophytes, chlorophytes, and bacillariophytes and the correlation between them and environmental abiotic components. Among sixty nine microalgal species, 19 species are belong Cyanophyta, 26 belong Chlorophyta and 24 belong Bacillariophyta. Genus Scenedesmus (Chlorophyta) was the most abundant in the study area (13 species), followed by Genus Oscillatoria (9 species) and Genus Navicula (7 species). Nostoc muscorum and Chlorella vulgaris were the most common and recorded in all sites (100% of the locations) under study. The application of the two-way indicator species analysis (TWINSPAN) and detrended correspondence analysis revealed agglomerating of 4 groups (communities) at 4th level of classification and reasonable segregation between these groups. Zinc, cadmium and lead were showed the highest levels (0.26 ± 0.03, 0.26 ± 0.06, and 0.17 ± 0.01 ppm, respectively). Conclusions: The correlation analysis between water and community variables indicated a high negative correlation of total algae richness with nickel (r = –0.936, p < 0.01). Cyanophyta and Bacillariophyta were correlated negatively (r = –0.842, p < 0.01). However, Chlorophyta showed a negative richness with each of Ni and Pb (r = –0.965, –0.873, respectively) on one hand and a high positive correlation was revealed (r = 0.964) with all environmental variables on the other hand.

Salicylic acid (SA) in different concentration were used to assess its individual effect as well as combined impact with 3% calcium chloride (CaCl2) on Swat No. 8 variety of peach stored at refrigerated temperature (6 ± 2 °C) for 21 days. Interestingly, the results revealed that applying 2 mmol L−1 SA with 3% CaCl2 maintained maximum nutritional value and least decay percent (44.1%) as compared to other treatments during storage. Moreover, this combination also exhibited significant weight loss and chilling injury at 6 ± 2 °C whereas increased levels of total phenolic, flavonoids, tannin, alkaloid, ascorbic acid, and antioxidant activity were observed as compared to other treatments. The combination treatment (2 mmol L−1 SA with 3% CaCl2) maintained other sensory attributes of peach fruit during refrigerated storage, therefore, its commercial use was recommended to store peach fruit for up to three weeks without any significant nutritional and physical loss.
