Intrinsic and extrinsic quality of data for open data repositories
Aurora González-Vidal,Alfonso P. Ramallo-González,Antonio F. Skarmeta 한국통신학회 2022 ICT Express Vol.8 No.3
This work assesses the quality of Internet of Things data not only as an intrinsic quality on how well it represents the related phenomenon but also, on how much information it contains to educate an artificial entity. The quality metrics here proposed are tested with real datasets. Also, they are implemented on OpenCPU, so the open data repositories can use them off-the-shelf to rate their datasets without computational cost and minimum human intervention, making them more attractive to potential users and gaining visibility and impact.
Asserting Women’s Rights and Well Being in the Age of Populism and Misogyny in the Philippines
Aurora de Dios(오로라 드 디오스) 이화여자대학교 아시아여성학센터 2018 이화여자대학교 아시아여성학센터 학술대회자료집 Vol.2018 No.1
Filipino women take pride in having gained substantial progress in advancing women’s rights and gender equality in the country particularly in the area of legislative reforms. However, such reforms, when viewed in the context of an increasingly globalized world, and the state’s adherence to neo-liberal policies have in fact been quite limited. In addition, the politics of patronage and oligarchic rule and the monopoly of economic and political power by a few have persisted despite the democratization efforts after EDSA revolution and the presence of strong social movements in the country. The lecture briefly examines the effects of globalization processes alongside the deterioration of democratic processes since EDSA on women’s assertions of their rights, voice and well-being. The recent emergence of authoritarian populist/misogynist regime of Duterte illustrates the fragility of hard won gains by women and of social movements in general. The present climate of impunity and the regression of many rights and freedoms and constriction of democratic spaces for citizens in general and women in particular poses serious challenges but also opportunities for women’s struggle to achieve genuine political and economic empowerment. Concrete examples of women’s organizing and collective action will be discussed.

Microvascular reconstruction frequently requires anastomosis outside of the zone of injury for successful reconstruction. Multiple options exist for pedicle lengthening including vein grafts, arteriovenous loops, and arteriovenous bundle interposition grafts. The authors performed a systematic review of arteriovenous bundle interposition grafts to elucidate indications and outcomes of arteriovenous grafts in microvascular reconstruction. A systematic review of the literature was performed using targeted keywords. Data extraction was performed by two independent authors, and descriptive statistics were used to analyze pooled data. Forty-four patients underwent pedicle lengthening with an arteriovenous graft from the descending branch of the lateral circumflex femoral artery. Most common indications for flap reconstruction were malignancy (n¼12), trauma (n¼7), and diabetic ulceration (n¼4). The most commonly used free flap was the anterolateral thigh flap (n¼18). There were five complications, with one resulting in flap loss. Arteriovenous bundle interposition grafts are a viable option for pedicle lengthening when free flap distant anastomosis is required. The descending branch of the lateral circumflex femoral artery may be used for a variety of defects and can be used in conjunction with fasciocutaneous, osteocutaneous, muscle, and chimeric free flaps.

Expression of recombinant proteins in Escherichia coli often leads to formation of inclusion bodies (IB). If a recombinant protein contains one or more disulfide bonds, protein refolding and thiol oxidation reactions are required to recover its biological activity. Previous studies have demonstrated that molecular chaperones and foldases assist with the in vitro protein refolding. However, their use has been limited by the stoichiometric amount required for the refolding reaction. In search of alternatives to facilitate the use of these folding biocatalysts in this study, DsbA, DsbC,and the apical domain of GroEL (AD) were fused to the carbohydrate-binding module CBDCex of Cellulomonas fimi. The recombinant proteins were purified and immobilized in cellulose and used to assist the oxidative refolding of denatured and reduced lysozyme. The assisted refolding yields obtained with immobilized folding biocatalysts were at least twice of those obtained in the spontaneous refolding, suggesting that the AD, DsbA, and DsbC immobilized in cellulose might be useful for the oxidative refolding of recombinant proteins that are expressed as inclusion bodies. In addition, the spontaneous or assisted refolding kinetics data fitted well (r2 > 0.9) to a previously reported lysozyme refolding model. The estimated refolding (kN)and aggregation (kA) constants were consistent with the hypothesis that foldases assisted the oxidative refolding of lysozyme by decreasing protein aggregation rather than increasing the refolding rate.

Tomato landrace producers are adopting grafting technology to overcome agronomic deficiencies and increase plant yields. Landraces are valued for their higher organoleptic quality, so it is important to assess the impact of grafting on their sensory profile. We studied the influence of ‘Beaufort’ rootstock on agronomic, morphologic, and sensory traits using two landraces (‘Mando’ and ‘Montgri’) and one commercial cultivar (‘Egara’) as scions in two extreme management systems for tomato cultivation: conventional/greenhouse and organic/open field. Panel sensory analysis found that grafting onto ‘Beaufort’ had a negative effect on sensory attributes, reducing sweetness, acidity, and intensity of flavor in the organic system and sweetness and intensity of flavor in the conventional system. In conventional management, grafting also modified some aspects of fruit appearance. In the conventional system, grafting significantly increased yield in all the genotypes (mean increase, 52%). By contrast, in the organic system, grafting increased yield only in the ‘Mando’ landrace (mean increase, 62.3%). As many genotype × grafting interactions affecting many important commercial traits occurred in both management systems, specific studies with different rootstock-scion combinations are highly recommended before adopting this technique for producing landraces with high sensory quality.
eHealth Support for People with Depression in the Community: A Case Study Series

Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) is a chronic mental health condition that affects quality of life and morbidity. Help4Mood is a novel intervention designed to support the treatment of people withMDDin the community. It combines monitoring of objective symptoms such as activity levels and speech patterns with monitoring of subjective symptoms such as self reported mood and thinking patterns. Help4Mood was developed iteratively in collaboration with clinicians and people with depression. In this paper, we discuss our overall approach and present the results of four case studies where people with depression tested a near-final prototype of Help4Mood for two weeks.
